ART ARONSON

This is a 10* GAME OF THE WEEK on the New York Yankees.

Both the Astros and the Yankees stumbled in their final games of the regular season and now face each other in a winner takes all wild card scenario on Tuesday night. The visitors hand the ball to ace Dallas Keuchel (20-8, 2.48 ERA) who has been a complete "Jekyll and Hyde" pitcher all year; note that it was a crushing setback to the Diamondbacks in Sunday's regular season finale, which would have seen the team host the Wild Card game, as Keuchel is 15-0 with a 1.46 ERA in front of the home town crowd, compared to just 5-8 with a pedestrian 3.77 ERA on the road. Also note that Keuchel will be making a start on three-days rest for the first time in his career. Mashario Tanaka comes in well rested, having not thrown since September 18th due to a strained hamstring and will have all of the Yanks starters ready to assist if needed. Experience in a one game playoff contest like this can't be overlooked, Houston is just feeling happy that it's back to the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Also note that Houston limped its way into the postseason, losing 14 of its last 21, thanks in part to some truly dreadful bullpen play. We're banking on experience and home field advantage to be the difference here and in our professional opinion, this is indeed the very definition of "great line value," play on the YANKEES.

(932) 4* NY Yankees+ over Houston @ 8:05 Eastern

Although the Yankees finished 1-6, not winning the East, feel they may have a real psychological edge on Tuesday night. First off, they are without 1B Mark Teixeira the most dangerous hitter in their lineup. Plus now the pitching staff takes a hit with LHP Sabathia leaving the team causing depth issues. But, the Yankees are playing at home in a hitter-friendly park, and have experience in playoff type games. New York (87-75) will use ace RHP Tanaka who finished with a 12-7 mark and a decent 3.51 ERA, but a solid 0.99 WHIP. He is a big game hurler! Houston (86-76) comes in with loads of confidence knowing they have had success against the Yankees, but still they almost blew their wild card berth…That tells you something about their youth! The Astros will use their young stud hurler Dallas Keuchel (20-8, 2.48) who has not allowed a run in 16 innings of work vs. the Yankees this season. Impressive to say the least, however, this is the first time he is throwing with three day’s rest. And being on the road in a huge game has tendency to create issues for young hurlers.

AL Playoff Game of the Month

Losing the division title to the Rangers was a big blow to the Astros chances of advancing far into the playoffs. Not only do they have to play this one off contest against the Yankees, but they must do so on the road. Believe it or not the Astros 33-48 road record was the absolute worst in the entire American League. So the team that faltered down the stretch because of experience now is put into its worst role in a do or die contest. No thank you. While Dallas Keuchel has been close to automatic pitching at home, its been a different story on the road. A 1.46 ERA at home as opposed to a 3.77 ERA and a 5-8 record away from Houston. To top it off he has never pitched in the postseason and he will be coming back on only three days rest.
The Yankees have a lot of veterans on this team with a nice mix of youngsters. New York is a well balanced team with a winning record at home as well as the road. Tanaka had a winning record pitching both at home and on the road. He was a mainstay in the Japanese League and has pitching in this type of environment before. While Tanaka has battled injuries he returns for this game on his regular pitching schedule.

Tony's Tuesday AL Wild Card Play In Winner just $15- CASH IT OUT

Houston Astros -109

Pitching - Astro's - Kuechel was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts against the Yankees this season. He gave up three hits and struck out nine in seven shutout innings of a 15-1 victory at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 25, using only 88 pitches. In the series the Astro's played the Yanks in Yankee Stadium the last time they outscored the Yanks 21-4. MOMENTUM - Houston has won 6 out of 7, the Yankees limped in here and dropped their last 3 to the O's and finished the season 3-7 their last 10 I like a team on a roll with nothing to lose in a ballpark they have done will in with a potential Cy Young pitcher on the hill. Houston rolling huge, Yankees are not. Houston hits southpaws at .333 as a team their last 5 games and face a left hander (good one) but none the less run support for Houston is here as well.

Fargo's 10* MLB A.L. WILD CARD WINNER (74% POWER ANGLE)

The Astros were on a 6-1 run heading into Sunday but a 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks put them on the road in this A.L. Wild Card game. That is significant based on their 20-game difference at home and on the road but come Tuesday, I don't think that is going to make a difference. The Yankees backed into a home game here as they closed the season with losses in six of their last seven games and those were against non-playoff teams. They do not have an edge here as the Yankees are 5-12 in their last 17 home games against teams with a losing road record. The advantage here goes to Astros starter Dallas Keuchel who is the likely A.L. Cy Young winner. While he was undefeated at home and his road numbers were not nearly as good, the situation is right. He won 20 games and finished with a 2.48 ERA in 232 innings, striking out 216 while also carrying the second-best ground-ball rate among qualified pitchers. He faced the Yankees twice and did not allow a run over 16 innings with Houston winning both including a 15-1 win at Yankee Stadium. This is the first time ever he has pitched on three days rest but in Friday's game, he threw just 99 pitches, and none of them were in particularly high-stress situations. Masahiro Tanaka gets the call for New York and while he has been solid, his numbers do not compare. He got lit up by the Astros in his lone start against them this season, allowing six runs in five innings. New York went 1-4 in his last five home starts. It is fact that bad regular season finishes affect playoff starts as we play against teams in a playoff game after having lost six or seven of their last eight games. This situation is 28-10 (73.7 percent) since 1997.

Jim Feist's High End MLB Systems Release - Tuesday!

10/06 8:05 PM EST (931) HOUSTON ASTROS VS (932) NEW YORK YANKEES

Take: (931) New York Yankees

Reason: Dallas Keuchel is an incredible 15-0 at home this season, but he opens the playoffs on the road where he is 5-8 with a 3.77 ERA. Yankee stadium is not an easy place to throw and this New York offense is deadly, second in baseball in runs scored, 4th in slugging and 10th in on base percentage. The Astros are 18-41 in their last 59 road games and 3-8 in Keuchel's last 11 road starts. Houston faces Masahiro Tanaka (12-7, 3.51 ERA), who is 7-4 at home. The Yankees are 5-1 vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and 13-3 when Tanaka faces a team with a winning record.

Play the NY Yankees in Game 1.
