3* COLLEGE TRIPLE STAR KICK OFF WINNER

Notre Dame -10

Analysis: Now, as for this opener. Last season we opened the college campaign with an easy winner on Ole Miss and I frankly love our chances to duplicate that here. Lousy spot for Charlie Strong's Long Horns as he takes a young club with Swoopes under center into South Bend for a night opener against an experience Irish club that could return as many as 19 starters from that very salty club a year ago. That does not bode well for the Horns. Add in the fact the Horns are a little dicey on the offensive line and that does not make me want to back them here with Swoopes taking the snaps. Plus, frankly I am not all that enamored with that Texas secondary with the exception of Duke Thomas on the corner. Don't get me wrong. I like and respect Charlie Strong. He inherited a team mired in a country club atmosphere and had to come in and kick some ass and put his stamp on things. He will get the job done, I have little to no doubt. If he can recruit the state with success, and I think he can, he will return this Texas program to the lofty heights its rabid fan base expects. BUT, we are talking about this one game here and most to the point betting on it. Frankly I like the Irish here up to 13.5 as a triple star guys. I see the Irish pulling away late to cover our number.

Double Dime - Old Dominion -6
Look for O.D. to run the football in this game behind 4 returning lineman. RB Ray Lawry will be carry the load until new QB Shuler Bentley gains some confidence. The Monarchs will look to improve on the defensive side of the ball. I think they should be able to slow down(if not stop) Eastern Michigan, who isn't very good to begin with. Also, E.Mich had a number of injuries to key players over the last week. The Monarchs still have a chip on their shoulder from last season, when they were past over for a Bowl game.

Double Dime - Temple +7
I do believe PSU will be a very good team this year. But I also believe the Owls can be very good too. Walker will feel more comfortable behind center with a health O-Line and some nice weapons on the outside (Jennings & Anderson). Lets not forget the Owls D#. They return all their starters from last season and if they can get pressure on Hackenberg, this can be the biggest win in Temple history. I'm also not a big fan of PSU on the road, they screwed me a few times last season. @Rutgers(W,by3), @Mich(L,by5), @Ind(W,by6), ILL(L,by2). I'll gladly take the pts in this game.

Dime - Old Dominion/Eastern Michigan Under 65.5
I don't see E.Mich scoring to much. When O.D. is on offense they should be running the ball and chewing up the clock. I really don't see them airing it out right away with new QB Bentley.

Play on Game #185/186 Bowling Green/ Tennessee OVER the TOTAL (Saturday, 4:00 PM EST)

This game has 'shoot-out' written all over it. Bowling Green returns 10 starters on offense this season. They averaged 30 ppg a game last season and they run a hurry-up offense. 7 of their 12 games last season finished with a final score of 65 or more points. The defense gave up over 50 points three times and an average of 494 yards a game. They only return 4 starters on defense this season as senior Bryan Thomas got suspended for the season. They also and have a new DC and it will take time for this defense to improve. Opening up against a team like Tennessee that has an elusive QB in Josh Dobbs does them no favors. Their linebacking and secondary core appears to be weak and it will take time for the new DC to improve this defense.

The Tennessee Vols ended last season by putting up 45 points against Iowa in the bowl game. They have momentum in this game and have a much more experienced offensive line and also have one of the best RB combos in the SEC with Hurd and Kamura.

I think we see Tennessee hang 45+ points in this one. Bowling Green has an offense that will score and if they are behind, they are going to be playing even faster trying to catch up. If the Vols happen to get up by 3 or more touchdowns, the defense might look to take a break as they have a revenge game vs. Oklahoma on deck. We should see a final score that hits at least 70 points in this one. Look for a final score in the 45-27 range. Take this game OVER the TOTAL!

River City Sharps

The Tony Sanchez era officially begins at UNLV on Saturday as his Rebels make the trek to Dekalb to face off with Northern Illinois, our preseason pick to win the MAC. Sanchez may think he is still at Bishop Gorman in Vegas after he sees his team on the field as we fully expect the Rebels to be one of the worst five teams in FBS this season. These two teams played last year in Vegas in Week 3 and the Huskies came away with a 14-point win. This Rebel team will be even younger than the bad ones of the past several campaigns and only return 10 starters from last year’s 2-11 squad, while the Huskies will return 13 starters from their MAC West championship team, the fifth straight time they have won their division. The numbers all scream towards the home side here….Consider that Vegas is 1-14 in their last 15 road openers, losing their last seven by an average of 26 ppg. Meanwhile, NIU is 13-2 in their last 15 home openers, winning their last seven games by an average of 27 ppg. Drew Hare returns at QB for the Huskies and he enjoyed a solid first year as the starter, throwing 18 TD’s to just two interceptions and completing right at 60% of his throws. An interesting ATS trend here regarding NIU is that when the Huskies rush for 250 yards or more, they are 17-3 against the number since 1992 and this Rebel rush defense could be one of the worst they see all year long. This Huskie team is used to be being the big dog in the MAC but were picked third in their preseason poll, so they may come out Saturday with something to prove to the rest of the conference. Huskies absolutely ROLL in this one by 4 TD’s at a minimum. The Sharps say…

10 STAR GAME -ALABAMA BY 18 OVER WISCONSIN

Alabama's front seven is strong, and would put a stop to Wisconsin's run game. Wisconsin has a inexperienced passing game, and will fail getting within the Alabama's 25 yard line. Alabama's defense will pull the turnovers, and execute the easy win. According to my prediction, I have Alabama 31-13.
