Kevin's Pick(s):
1-1 split yesterday, but overall a solid week. Three plays to kick off Monday as we enter the final week of the regular season and will be able to enjoy some divsional and Wild Card races...

Listed Pitchers: Matzek vs Stults
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 2.00 units)
2 UNIT = Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers - WHITE SOX TO WIN (+174)
Listed Pitchers: Bassit vs Lobstein
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 3.48 units)
2 UNIT = Houston Astros @ Texas Rangers - ASTROS TO WIN (+139)
Listed Pitchers: Tropeano vs Holland
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 2.78 units)
Kyle's Pick(s)
2 UNIT = St. Louis Cardinals @ Chicago Cubs - CARDINALS TO WIN (-167)
Listed Pitchers: Wainwright vs. Wood
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 1.20 units)
Ten game streak snapped last night. It was bound to happen, but never feels good when it does. All it means is its time to start up a new winning run.
The Cardinals got pounded last night at the hands of the Reds, which handed us a loss on the UNDER, but look to get back on track with Adam Wainwright taking the mound. Wainwright has been one of the best pitchers in the majors this season, and also a force pitching on the road. Wainwright has an overall ERA of 2.45, but it gets even better away from home. His ERA falls all the way to 1.82 and boasts a 0.99 WHIP and .260 OBP. We are also getting one of, if not the hottest pitcher at the moment. He has been stellar, giving up only 2 runs in his past three games. Wainwright's ERA stands at 0.69 with a 0.88 WHIP and .240 OBP in those games, including a 9 inning shutout in his last outing against the Brewers. In his last start in Chicago at Wrigley, Wainwright allowed no runs in 7 innings back in July. If Wainwright is one of the hottest pitchers, Wood is one of the coldest. He holds a 6.57 ERA his last three, but it doesn't tell the whole story, as his WHIP is 1.95 and .414 OBP in those starts. Wood has an ERA of 4.27 at Wrigley this season and 1.38 WHIP, so he has had some issues. Lets get back on track by backing Wainwright to get the week started off with.

HALL OF FAME PICKS / William Holloway

Cardinals(-165)

The Cards have won seven of nine and send their ace to the mound, as they try to get him 20 wins on the season. Wainwright has won four straight starts with a 1.69 ERA , and is 4-1 in his last 5 against the Cubs.
The Cubs send Travis Wood to the mound, who is 0-4 with a 5.43 ERA over his last 10.

MLB betting cheat sheet: Happ a strong ‘Under’ play

Here’s a comprehensive look at betting notes for the early-week major league games:

Padres Bucking Over Trend

The San Diego Padres (-113, O 7) continued their late-season Over trend Sunday with an 8-2 home drubbing of the San Francisco Giants. The Padres (59-91-5 O/U) still have the fewest Overs in the majors, but are a stunning 7-3 O/U in their last 10 games.

What’s Happ-ening?

Toronto Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ is one of the strongest Under plays of late heading into Monday’s showdown with the visiting Seattle Mariners (-115, 8). Happ has recorded six consecutive Unders and is 1-8-1 O/U in his last 10 starts.

Marlins Showing Brotherly Love

The Miami Marlins have enjoyed their visits from the Philadelphia Phillies this season as the National League East rivals do battle Tuesday night. Miami is 4-2 SU and 4-1-1 O/U in six home meetings with the Phillies so far in 2014.

Pitching Notes

* Bet against Adam Wainwright at your peril. The St. Louis Cardinals ace is 10-6 with a 1.82 ERA in 17 road starts going into Monday’s tilt with host Chicago (+171, 7); the Cubs did, however, torch him for six runs over five innings in a home win May 2.

* Miami right-hander Henderson Alvarez looks to secure a top-five spot in pitcher values this season as the Marlins tangle with the visiting Phillies on Tuesday. Alvarez ranks fourth among starters at $1,148, with Miami going 19-9 in his starts.

Hitting Notes

* A pair of Los Angeles Dodgers have caught fire at the right time. Matt Kemp is hitting .333 with three home runs and 10 RBIs over the past seven days, while first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is batting .333 with two homers and nine RBIs over the same span.

* All eyes will be on Chicago lefty Chris Sale and Detroit slugger Victor Martinez as the White Sox visit the Tigers. Martinez is hitting a scorching 15-for-28 lifetime versus Sale, with three home runs, six walks and eight RBIs.

Totals Streak

Minnesota Twins (7-1 O/U): The Twins are a strong bet to finish with the most Overs in the American League following their latest stretch in which they’ve surrendered four or more runs in eight of their last nine games. The Twins are 84-66-5 O/U for the year.

Prop of the Day

Bettors may want to consider taking the Seattle Mariners to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by exactly one run (+550). Six of Happ’s last 10 starts have been decided by a run, with the Blue Jays going 2-4 in those games.

Injury Notes

* The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that outfielder Desmond Jennings will miss the remainder of the season with a left knee injury. Jennings hasn’t played since Aug. 28 – a stretch during which the Rays have gone 10-12 SU, 10-10-2 O/U and -511 units.

* Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila is expected to rejoin the club shortly as he makes his way back from a concussion. Avila has missed 17 games this season, with the Tigers going 11-6 SU, 9-8 O/U and +373 units in those contests.

Weather Watch

* Wind at Turner Field will blow in from center field at 7 mph for Monday’s tilt between the host Braves (+129, 6.5) and Pittsburgh. teams combined to hit .229 with 1.38 home runs in eight games under similar conditions in 2013 – well below stadium averages.

** Odds, stats, weather forecast and probable pitchers as of 11:10 a.m. ET. Monday.

Dr. Bob :

NY JETS -2.5 (-120) 28 Chicago 18
Mon Sep-22-2014 at 05:30 PM Pacific Rotation: 480 Over/Under 45.5 - Matchup Stats
After a timeout fiasco that cost them a chance to tie the Packers late, the Jets move on after their 24-31 loss in Green Bay. New York let a 21-3 lead last week slip away but they have a chance at redemption against another NFC North foe as the Bears come to town for a prime time Monday night game. The Bears have difficult match-ups in this game and will have a hard time trying to establish a ground game against the Jets league best run defense. The Bears are only averaging 67 yards at 4.1 ypr and face the excellent run defense of the Jets that is allowing 54 yards at 3.2 ypr. Meanwhile, the Jets rush offense is also near the top of the league, averaging 180 yards at 5.3 ypr and matched-up here against a bad Bears rush defense that is allowing 163 yards at 5.6 ypr. Advantage Jets.

The Bears passing offense may see an opportunity against a Jets secondary that has been banged up but if they can’t get any sort of run game going at all, which is likely, they become one-dimensional. That becomes a problem as the Jets will dial up blitz packages and make things very difficult for Jay Cutler, which is what I see happening in this game. The Bears are also in a difficult spot, playing a west coast Sunday night game last week, travelling back to Chicago and then off to the east coast for this non-conference game. They also play host to Green Bay next week in a big divisional game. Although it’s a Monday night, the Bears might not have their A game in this one. In addition, last week they made the most of their opportunities against the 49ers but were very fortunate with a +4 turnover differential as they were outgained 218 yards at 4.4 yppl to 361 yards at 5.6 yppl for the 49ers. Overall this season so far the Bears are being outgained 323 yards at 5.4 yppl to 363 at 6.1 yppl while the Jets are outgaining their opponents 358 yards at 5.4 yppl to 276 at 4.8 yppl.

Rex Ryan will have the Jets fired up at home in primetime and I expect them to play well here. The Bears have been dealing with injuries along the offensive line and top level communication is necessary against a Jets defense that will offer multiple looks and generate confusion. Defensively, the Bears struggle with the read option, so I expect some Jet packages designed to exploit that deficiency. The Jets have advantages on both lines and should win in the trenches. They also qualify in one of my best situations that is 105-34-4. I like the Jets -2.5 (-120) for 2-Stars up to -3 (-120).
