Game of the Day: Bruins at Canadiens

Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens (+118, 5)

The Boston Bruins silenced the Bell Centre and turned the tide with an overtime triumph in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference second-round series. After posting a 4-2 victory on Saturday, the Presidents' Trophy-winning Bruins look to close out the series in Montreal as they face the Canadiens in a pivotal Game 6 showdown on Monday. Reilly Smith and Jarome Iginla scored power-play goals 32 seconds apart early in the second period as Boston moved within one victory of gaining a berth in the conference final for the third time in four seasons.

"Our power play was due," Bruins coach Claude Julien said matter-of-factly. Boston had failed on its first 10 opportunities with the man advantage in the series and 39 consecutive chances on the power play versus Montreal in the postseason dating to Game 2 of the 2009 first-round series. Tomas Plekanec assisted on Brendan Gallagher's goal on Saturday, but also committed three minor penalties - with the last two resulting in power-play goals for Boston.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, RDS

LINE HISTORY: The Canadiens opened as +120 home dogs, but have been bet down to +118. The total opened at 5.

INJURY REPORT: Bruins: C Chris Kelly (Out indefinitely, back), D Dennis Seidenberg (Out indefinitely, knee). Canadiens C Alex Galchenyuk (Questionable, knee).

ABOUT THE BRUINS: While his team was cooling off the Canadiens, cameras spotted enforcer Shawn Thornton squirting a water bottle at Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban as play was in progress late in Saturday's contest. TSN reported the league's hockey operations and safety division will discuss a potential fine for Thornton. Tuukka Rask has done his best to throw water on the Canadiens' offense, following his 33-save shutout in Game 4 by stopping 29 shots on Saturday.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS: Three years ago, Montreal found itself facing elimination heading back to the Bell Centre to host Boston in a pivotal Game 6 clash. Captain Brian Gionta scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period and Carey Price turned aside 31 shots as the Canadiens skated to a 2-1 victory. Montreal would love for a breakthrough from Gionta, who has been held off the scoresheet in each of the last four games and has just one assist in the series.

TRENDS:

* Under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings in Montreal.
* Bruins are 11-3 in their last 14 Conference Semifinals games.
* Canadiens are 4-1 in their last five home games.
* Over is 5-1-1 in Bruins last seven overall.

COVERS CONSENSUS: 51 percent of wagers in the Covers Consensus are on the Bruins.

The system bet on May 12th is an {A} bet on Atlanta on the +1.5 run line. This system bet passes the RPI filter, however please keep in mind that it does not pass the betting against the #1 team filter. Atlanta's opponent is the San Francisco Giants, who is currently the #1 rated RPI team in the league.

NBA Playoffs Betting News & Notes
•Clippers Use Late Rally To Tie Series: On the verge of heading back to Oklahoma City down 3-1 in this Western Conference semifinal series, the Los Angeles Clippers responded with the biggest rally in their franchise history. Despite 40 points from Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, the Clippers made a bigger statement by overcoming a 16-point, fourth-quarter deficit and pulling out a 101-99 victory over the Thunder in Game #4 before a sellout crowd of 19,365 at Staples Center on Sunday.

Reserve guard Darren Collison's layup with 32.8 seconds remaining in the game was the difference and allowed the Clippers to even the best-of-seven series at two games apiece. "It's right up there," Griffin said of the rally. "I remember two years ago, Game #1 in Memphis, we were down 20-something in the fourth quarter and came back. This is right up there with it just because of the circumstances." Game #5 is Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder, who led by as many as 22 points in the first half, blew a 16-point lead achieved with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter. Guard Russell Westbrook missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it for the Thunder. "It's a tough loss, but it's a series, man," said Westbrook, who had 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists. "It ain't like we're going home (trailing). We'll go back home and take care of business." They had a chance Sunday, but failed miserably with a meltdown in the final period, when the Clippers came through with a 38-point period and got key buckets by Collison, who scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth, and point guard Chris Paul.

•Paul George Scores 39 As Pacers Rally Past Wizards: Paul George had a career playoff-high 39 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Indiana Pacers back from a 19-point deficit and past the Washington Wizards 95-92 on Sunday night to move one victory away from returning to the Eastern Conference finals. The Pacers lead the second-round series 3-1 and can close it out Tuesday night, hosting Game #5. George played 46 minutes and scored 28 points after halftime Sunday, including making six of his franchise playoff-record-tying seven 3-pointers. Roy Hibbert had 17 points and nine rebounds, continuing his recent surge after a poor-as-can-be start to the series. He helped Indiana overcome Washington's 32-2 advantage in bench scoring.

Eastern Conference Playoffs - Round #2

#729 MIAMI @ #730 BROOKLYN
(TV: 8:00 PM EST, TNT - Line: Heat -2.5, Total: 187.5) - The Brooklyn Nets have the opportunity to turn the Eastern Conference series into a best-of-three when they host the Miami Heat in Monday’s Game #4. After being beaten handily in the first two games, Brooklyn was the superior squad in Saturday’s 104-90 victory, and following up that performance with another win would tie the series at two games apiece. Miami scored just 33 total points in the middle two quarters while suffering its first postseason loss since last year.

The Nets set a franchise record with 15 3-pointers in the double-digit victory with guard Joe Johnson (five) and backup forward Mirza Teletovic (four) combining for nine. Also of note was how Brooklyn slowed down LeBron James over the final three quarters (12 points on 2-of-8 shooting) after he erupted for 16 first-quarter points on 6-of-7 shooting. “It’s a 48-minute game,” Nets coach Jason Kidd told reporters. “I’m not counting how many times you score. I’m looking at how many shots he’s taking and he was making them in the first quarter. We didn’t lose patience and we stuck with the game plan and we found a way to win.”

•ABOUT THE HEAT (60-29 SU, 42-45-2 ATS): Though Miami was staggered a bit in Game #3, the two-time defending champs are good at brushing off defeats. “I’ve been part of a lot of series and understand that the series is never won in two games or in three games,” James told reporters. “And you move onto the next one and you learn from the previous one how you can get better.” The Heat have followed up each of their last eight playoff defeats with a victory as they typically kick it up into a higher gear. “We didn’t have that desperation in this game,” said center Chris Bosh after Game #3, “but usually, a loss will do that and you’ll come back with it.”

•ABOUT THE NETS (49-43 SU, 47-44-1 ATS): Strong bench play from Teletovic (12 points) and Andray Blatche (15 points, 10 rebounds) helped fuel the impressive victory. Teletovic opened up the floor with his 3-point marksmanship and Blatche operated superbly in the paint with his first career playoff double-double. Blatche was a bit intimidated by the stage in the first two games – “I wasn’t being as aggressive as I should’ve been,” he said – but in Game #3, he provided the type of energy the team needed in the second quarter. Bench play will continue to be key with point guard Deron Williams struggling on the offensive end – 3-of-20 shooting over the last two games.

•PREGAME NOTES: The 104 points scored by the Nets marked the first time this postseason Miami allowed 100 or more.... Teletovic is 11-of-19 from 3-point range in the series and 33 of his 37 points have come from behind the arc.... Heat G Ray Allen missed his only 3-point attempt in Game #3 after making 7-of-12 over the first two games.... Brooklyn is 9-22 versus the spread (29.9%) in a home game where the total is between 180 and 189.5 points over the last three seasons.... Miami is 42-27 against the spread (60.8%) in road games versus teams who attempt 18 or more three-point shots/game on the season over the last two seasons.

Western Conference Playoffs - Round #2

#731 SAN ANTONIO @ #732 PORTLAND
(TV: 10:30 PM EST, TNT - Line: Spurs -3.5, Total: 211) - The San Antonio Spurs are making it look easy as they cruise toward the Western Conference finals. The Spurs will try to polish off a four-game sweep when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers for Game #4 of the semifinals on Monday evening. The Trail Blazers thought the change of scenery could change the complexion of the series but San Antonio was just as impressive on the road and ended up cruising to a 118-103 victory in Game #3.

No NBA team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series and Portland is just hoping for a better effort. “We’re going to come out and have a great effort on Monday night,” Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts told reporters. “That’s the most important thing. We’re going to show our character, we’re going to show our pride and we’re going to come out and play our (rear ends) off on Monday.” The Spurs recognize that getting the final win won’t be easy. “The close-out is always the hardest game,” San Antonio guard Tony Parker said.

•ABOUT THE SPURS (69-23 SU, 49-43-0 ATS): San Antonio is the fourth team in NBA history to win four straight postseason games by 15 or more points and has rarely looked vulnerable against the Trail Blazers. The Spurs held a 60-40 lead at the half in Game #3 - the third straight time they held at least a 19-point cushion at the break - and controlled the game in the second half. Parker scored 20 of his 29 points in the first half on Saturday and is averaging 26 points in the series. “(Parker) got us out of the gates,” forward Tim Duncan told reporters. “He continues to shoot the ball really well. He’s getting to his spots. He’s making great decisions for our offense.”

•ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (58-33 SU, 46-45-0 ATS): Portland has yet to figure out a way to slow the San Antonio offense in the first half and is struggling to get into a rhythm early with its own offense. “”It’s frustrating,” Stotts told reporters. “You’ve got to play through the frustration. It’s part of the game. It’s part of the playoffs... But yeah, it’s frustrating to get down 20 in the first half. You look at the scoreboard and it’s a hole.” All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge (38 percent) and Damian Lillard (37.5) are both struggling from the field in the series while Mo Williams (groin) has been a non-factor off the bench and could miss his second straight game on Monday.

•PREGAME NOTES: The Spurs bench is outscoring the Blazers’ reserves 140-43 in the series.... Lillard is just 1-of-13 from beyond the arc in the series after hitting 23-of-47 in the first round.... Portland has led for a total of 33 seconds in the three games.... San Antonio is 14-2 against the spread (87.5%) versus teams who average 7 or less steals/game on the season, including 10-1 ATS (90.9%) 2nd half of the season this season.... Portland is 9-19 versus the spread (32.1%) in home games versus good offensive teams - scoring 99+ points/game - 2nd half of the season over the last two seasons.

MLB Betting News and Notes - Week #7
•Pirates Still Unsure Of Grilli's Return Date: Right-handed reliever Jason Grilli took another step forward Sunday night when he threw 25 pitches off a mound before the Pittsburgh Pirates' 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates don't yet have a timetable for when Grilli, who has been out since April 21 with a strained left oblique, will be activated from the 15-day disabled list or even when he might start a minor league rehab assignment. Furthermore, manager Clint Hurdle isn't ready to say if Grilli would be the closer upon his return.

Grilli has converted just four or seven saves opportunities this season after going 33-for-35 last year. He is also 0-1 in eight games with a 4.50 ERA. "I hate to take a guy away from his job because of an injury," Hurdle said. "We want to make sure he's as sharp as he can be, so we'll see." Setup man Mark Melancon moved into the closer's role when Grilli was injured, and he has converted four of five save chances. Melancon had 16 saves last season while filling in for five weeks while Grilli was on the DL with a strained forearm.

•Yankees Lefty Sabathia Heads To DL: New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with fluid in his right knee. An MRI revealed no structural damage but the knee was swollen enough and the pain uncomfortable enough to send Sabathia to the DL. He will have the knee drained Monday in New York. The move came a day after another rocky start for Sabathia, who gave up four runs -- only one earned -- on eight hits, including three home runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. In his last three starts, Sabathia is 0-2 and has a 6.42 ERA.

•Orioles Happy To Welcome Davis Back To Lineup: Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis returned to the lineup for the first time since April 25 after suffering a strained left oblique. Davis played in a rehab assignment Saturday at Double-A Bowie, going 1-for-4. He also played nine innings at first base and afterward was deemed healthy enough to return to Baltimore's lineup Sunday in the series finale against the Astros. Davis went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts in Baltimore's 5-2 loss to the Astros. He also played flawlessly at first base. Davis said after the game that there were no lingering effects from the injury. Now, it's just a matter of getting back into a rhythm.

•Hernandez On The Mound Against Rays, Good Sign For Mariners: The Seattle Mariners have not been backing up their ace. Despite Felix Hernandez sporting a 2.73 ERA and 53 strikeouts through eight games, the Mariners have lost four of his last five starts. The fortunes could be changing as Hernandez has meant W's for the Mariners against the Tampa Bay Rays. Seattle has won six of Hernandez's last eight starts against the Rays and eight straight at Safeco Field. The Mariners are -155 home favorites against the Rays (+143) Monday night.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto Blue Jays-105

This game features the 19-17 Angels at the 18-20 Jays. We got smacked hard yesterday backing the Blue Jays as they got blow out. But today we are backing the hottest pitcher in the American League Mark Buehrle he is 6-1 with a 1.91 ERA and seems to have his stuff back. Toronto needs this game having lost 3 straight this team will be playing balls to the wall tonight. Take the Jays to win straight for little to no juice for 10* play.
