927 NYY (+105) vs 928 TOR
Analysis:

It's not wise to bet against a team on a streak and tonight the Yankees Winners of 6 in a row have been made an underdog to a team that has lost 4 in a row. Yes Mussina has been struggling and only gets a second chance because of injury but even if he struggles he will be on a short leash and would be pulled early as the Yankees need every win to make the Playoffs. TAKE the YANKEES as STAN'S FALSE FAVORITE BIG BET OF THE WEEK and make them a DOUBLE DIME PLAY

Guaranteed Pick: Larry Ness

Game: San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers Sep 12 2007 10:10PM
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers
Reason: The Dodgers have dropped four of their last six after losing to Jake Peavy last night (my 15* play!). They are tied with the Rockies for third place in the wild card and are 3 1/2 games behind the Padres. Derek Lowe (11-12, 3.80 ERA) is expected to be to the mound Wednesday for LA. Lowe was playing catch in the outfield before Tuesday's game when he was accidentally struck on his pitching hand by a throw from reliever Jonathan Broxton. The ball struck the top of Lowe's right hand below the thumb and index finger. The area was discolored and swollen, and he had to have his throwing hand taped to minimize swelling. Reports are that he will pitch. However, I really don't care! This is an "action play" as I'll back ANY starter for the Dodgers. I just want to go "against" Justin Germano. Germano opened the season 5-0 with a 2.36 ERA in his first seven starts but has been nowhere-near that type of pitcher since! He's 2-9 with a 5.42 ERA in his last 15 starts, with the Padres going 4-11! He's lost both starts vs LA this year by identical 5-0 scores, allowing 16 hits and walking six in 12.1 innings (4.38 ERA). 'Late-Breaking' MLB Play on the LA Dodgers.

20* NL Game of the Month

ATLANTA BRAVES

Play on the Braves at 7:10 ET. Atlanta pounded the Mets 13-5 on Tuesday but are still 8 1/2 games behind them with 17 games left. The Braves remained five games behind San Diego for the NL wild card lead. Atlanta ace John Smoltz flirted with history the last time he took the mound. Smoltz (13-7, 3.02 ERA) took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in Friday's 7-1 win over Washington before Ronnie Belliard led off the inning with a single on his last pitch of the night. The 40-year-old right-hander, the only pitcher in baseball history with at least 200 wins and 150 saves, has never tossed a no-hitter. He's been "steady as they come" this year while New York's John Maine (14-9, 3.80 ERA) has struggled in the second half. Maine was 10-4 with a 2.71 ERA at the break (team was 12-5 in his starts) but has gone 4-5 with a 5.86 ERA in 11 second-half starts (team is 5-6). All season long, the Mets have been better in his road starts (10-4) than at home (7-7), plus the Mets are minus-$730 in night home games versus right-handers. In John Smoltz, they face one TOUGH right-hander! Atlanta is my 20* NL Game of the Month.

Every game is huge down in Septmeber for the Cubs who have faired well in Houston this season. Cubs are 4-1 in Houston this season that includes a sweep back in July. Astros 4-11 last 15 games on Wednesday and are 3-7 last 10 vs the Cubs prior to last night's game. Look for a big Cubs win to stay in the race for the division and the Wild Card race. Play on Arizona w/ Webb.
The Arizona Diamondbacks come into this one off a tough loss last night 2-1 to the Giants. The loss last night coupled with San Diego's win cut the Diamondbacks lead to 2 1/2 games in the NL West and snapped a 6 game winning streak. Arizona has struggled on the road against the Giants this season as they are only 2-6.
Tonight the Diamondbacks will attempt to right the ship when they send their ace, Brandon Webb, to the hill. Webb has been having a sensational season and has excelled on the road going 8-5 with a sparkling 2.76 ERA. In the one time that he has faced the Giants this season he pitched 7 strong innings giving up no runs in a 1-0 win. The Giants have had trouble againts righties this season going 44-55.
The Giants long gone in the playoff pitcher look to spoil Arizona's hopes even further with a game 2 win tonight. Last night's win was only their 4th in their last 10 ballgames and even this three game series at one game a piece.
The Giants will counter with their own right-handed starter in Jonathan Sanchez. Sanchez will be making only his 3rd start of the season and has yet to win posting an 0-1 mark with a 4.38 ERA. The last time that Sanchez faced Arizona he gave up 4 runs in a 6-3 loss. It will be tough going for Sanchez as the Diamondbacks have had good success versus right-handers posting a seaon mark of 59-47.
SUPPORTING ANGLES: ARIZONA is 33-12 (+23.0 Units) against the money line after batting .240 or worse over a 20 game span this season. ARIZONA is 38-19 (+20.4 Units) against the money line with an on base percentage of .310 or worse over their last 20 games this season. SAN FRANCISCO is 6-15 (-11.4 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with an on base percentage .315 or worse this season.
Yesterday I recommended the Diamondbacks to win and lost a tough one. Today they have their ace on the hill and need the victory. No spoiler today, I'm taking Arizona

WEDNESDAY
5 DIME

Pirates - (Day Game)
Phillies -1 1/2 runs
Tigers -1 1/2 runs

Free Pick - Braves - (For analysis see Daily video)

Note:
Keep grinding away.

In a very nice groove right now and feel great things coming up this weekend.

Now that is a pretty boastful statement considering I just went 6-0 Saturday in College Football, 5-2 in the NFL for the 11-2 weekend.

Today it's just looking for a 2nd straight winning day, a 2nd straight 3-0 sweep and build the bankrolll heading into football Thursday and produce another big weekend.

If you haven't done it already, be a man, step to the plate and make the longterm committment to me and what I do here on the website. Come Super Bowl, I assure you, you willl be as happy as ou have ever been.

Now let's have another big day.

PIRATES
Going to back Gorzelanny today.

He comes off a very solid start here at home going 7 innings allowing 1 earnred run in beating the Cubs. Not bad.

Now he steps up and faces a Brewers team that he is 2-0 against his last 4 starts and in his last 2 home starts against them, 4 earned in 14 innings. Solid.

There is a reason Gorzelanny is 14-7 this year. He is pitching very well.

Bush comes off one of his worst outings of his career allowing 8 runs in 1 inning versus the Reds and now must regroup right here.

Just don't see it.

Pirates roll at home again for Gorzelanny and he goes to 15-7 this year.

PHILLIES -1 1/2 RUNS
I will be at this game tonight and feel pretty good about Kendrick going to 7-0 at Citizens ballpark this year.

This kid has pitched reallly well.

He is 8-3 since his call up and over his last 3 starts, just 5 earned over 18 innings in going 2-0.

Phillies lost a tough one last night but Kendrick willl get them on track tonight.

Bautista makes his first start in over a year and his record is 2-1 with a ERA of 19.06 for a reason.

Since 2004 he has a record of 4-10 with an ERA of 7.11.

The river card is the fact that on the road he has made 6 starts and he is 0-3 allowing 27 runs in 21 innings.

Phillies by 2 runs is the play.

TIGERS -1 1/2 RUNS
On fire.

Justin Verlander is on fire.

Over his last 3 starts he has been as dominant as any pitcher out there.

He beat the Mariners with 1 run ball over 8 innings, beat the A's with 1 run ball over 7 innings and beat the Yankees with shutout ball over 7 innings.

That all adds up to 2 earned in 15 innings.

Volquez has pitched pretty well but tonight, as I said with Loiaza last night with the Dodgers, he gets rocked here.

Jump on Verlander and lay the run and a half for an easy Tigers 2 run or more win.

Detroit rolls.

American League Game Of The Year!

Play On: Toronto w/McGowan over NY Yankees w/Mussina

Note: Blue Jays' Dustin McGowan takes on Yankees' Mike Mussina in a matchup of two pitchers heading in opposite directions, at a price too good to pass up. McGowan enters the game i terrific KW form with 2 walks and 21 strikeouts in his last three starts, while Mussina is in lousy KW form with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts in his last three efforts. With McGowan's 3.17 ERA at home nearly two and a half runs better than Mussina's 5.56 ERA n the road this season, look for McGowan to improve to 4-0 in his MLB career team starts against the Pinstripes here tonight.
