Marcotte's horrific death came just days after lookalike jogger, Karina Vetrano, was sexually assaulted and murdered while out running in Queens.
The 30-year-old's battered body was found face down on an overgrown path in Howard Beach, in Queens, New York.
Police have now sparked fears of a serial killer after refusing to rule out a link between the two murders.
NYPD spokesman Peter Donald told The New York Post: "We haven’t ruled anything out. We’re going to continue to investigate this case and follow the leads where they take us."
Worcester County (Massachusetts) District Attorney Joseph Early Jr also suggested a connection between the killings at a press conference on Tuesday.
He told reporters: "We understand there are similarities.
"We’re approaching this from every angle. We’re fairly early in this investigation."
In a statement, Google paid tribute to Marcotte, who had worked as a healthcare account manager for 18 months.
The internet search giant said: "Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our New York office for the last year and a half, and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work and love of Boston sports.
"We are deeply shocked and saddened, and our thoughts are with her family and friends."
In a statement outside their home, Vetrano's parents, Cathy and Phillip, paid tribute to their "magical" daughter.
Her father, who discovered her body with police, said: "Eleven was her favourite number.
"She loved butterflies, she loved rainbows, she loved nature, and that's what represents. She loved cats, also."
(Both were beautiful women......& both killed in.broad day light, crazy!)
