Anyone know anything about SEO.

It's a skill I want to learn, admittedly I know nothing about it including where to start. Anyone have knowledge of the subject?

Is there any prerequisite knowledge I should start with?

If I can be lead in the right direct to start, Ill learn the basics... then thinking about reaching out to someone more experienced and see If I can internship / shadow them for a little while, but I'd like to see how far I can get on my own.

thanks for the information

1. Matthew Capala Beginners Guide to SEO is a good read... Many books out there but this one is great for beginners.
2.searchengineland.com is a good start. They have an SEO section with great articles... moz.com as well
3. After learning the basics try it out.

Im a small business man myself and a beginner using SEO... I'm no expert so hopefully someone else can come in and give you some advice.. I wanted to dig deep into SEO because I didn't want to pay premium monthly for something I could hopefully learn myself. I also wanted to know what I was looking for when I job projects out for a SEO... There are a lot of scammers in the SEO business that take full advantage of many SBOs... I'm not brilliant by any means but that's some good starting points to educate yourself.

So if you were killing it and that all of a sudden stops most likely there has been an algorithmic change. They do this to weed out the cheaters. The most important thing a website can do is have unique information and write unique articles that pertain to your business. Here's a what works link with a guide.

Thats the part that pisses me off.
Google does this to basically be forced to use their very costly ppc services

it's called "White Hat" SEO
The scammers that try to get around the rules use Black Hat

I've done some SEO over the past few years and it does Change. which use to piss me off.

Yep, had plenty of problems with them in the past.
had to fight with them about fake clicks. meaning they were doing it. Somewhere on the net are articles about it, and a Class action lawsuit.

social media is where it's at, IMHO
