Hey, anyone know how to send SWIFT wires on BN (Banco Nacional) Internet Banking? They swore I could send international wires online, but I fail to see any such option. Liars probably.

What other banks allow you to send SWIFT wires online? BAC San Jose doesn't (BAC Panama does), Scotiabank does but the process is really convoluted and its hard to open a corporate account there. Maybe BCR or HSBC?

For receiving SWIFT wires, BNCR just gave me their SWIFT code (BNCRCRSJ) and nothing else. Most banks have USD wires go to a correspondent account, does BNCR just take 'em directly?

on BCR, outgoing wires are only done in person and incoming there is no intermediary bank, fast wires actually.

I don't know of any costa rican banks that will let you send a wire without coming into the bank. In fact the only ones I do know that will do it are the various offshore banking jurisdictions (including panama), and even then you'll have to fax over a signed document.

For BAC San Jose I know they do BUT you can't just do it to a random recipient, you have to go to the branch and register the recipient info and sign a contract (if this is going to be a regular payment then this mechanism would work)

the SWIFT alone works for receiving (well of course you have to provide the address which for a change is easy since the location is downtown and avenues/streets work just fine)

BAC San Jose as well works fine for me with their SWIFT alone (the corresponding banks still exist of course but 'somehow'....I imagine because of the size of the banks, its much easier than putting 'for further credit to account bla on behalf of blabla' )

On a different note it appears that BCR is the one that is earning the prize for the 'most annoying bank in CR' with their KYC requirements. Stories keep popping up in La Nacion, AM Costa Rica etc as to how aggresive they are making sure they 'know you'

HSBC lets you do it on line, in their on line banking page you have the option to send the transfers from there, but i do not know if you must register the recipient before at ah agency

I'm told BNCR has a separate software application for sending SWIFT wires. You have to ask a bank executive for it. They have lots of paperwork and process to approve. Then they come and install the software on your computer themselves.
