Apparently the Repubs learned from the last time they tried to hold the country hostage over their insane beliefs. They talked the talk, but at the end of the day the bill passed rather easily. Looks like some real educated economists have been talking to them about how dumb their attempts to screw the country are. But there are still 31 clowns in the Senate who should be no where near our government. The debt limit is one of the stupidest things our government has.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Must-pass legislation to allow the government to borrow money to pay its bills has cleared Congress for President Barack Obama's signature.

The Senate approved the measure by a near party-line 55-43 vote. All of the "aye" votes came from Obama's Democratic allies.
But the vote to pass the measure was anticlimactic after a dramatic 67-31 tally — held open for more than an hour — in which the measure cleared a filibuster hurdle insisted on by tea party Republican Ted Cruz of Texas.

The Senate's top two Republicans — both facing tea party challenges in their GOP primaries this year — provided crucial momentum after a group of Republicans were clearly reluctant to walk the plank. Several other Republicans then switched their votes in solidarity.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the*US Government*can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.'

Luckily I don't take my economic advice from Obama!

Sayonara, John Boehner!

“There’s only one solution. John Boehner must be replaced as Speaker of the House,” said Matt Hoskins, group’s executive director."

"Conservatives helped Republicans win a majority in the
House of Representatives, which made it possible for John Boehner to become speaker. Unfortunately, he has chosen to ignore us and help President Obama enact his liberal agenda.”

“Republicans must know that conservatives expect them to make a change at the top, and we’re not going to give up on this until John Boehner is gone,” Mr. Hoskins said. “It’s sad that it has come to this, but enough is enough. We will never stop the massive spending and debt that are destroying our country if the Republican speaker of the House surrenders to the Democrats and stabs conservatives in the back.”

"SCF joins For American, Tea Party Patriots and Freedomworks in calling for Mr. Boehner to be removed from the chamber’s top post."

Back then he didn't. But he has been educated by his economic team that it is necessary to increase the debt ceiling.

The Republicans took a shellacking the last time they held the country hostage. You will literally never come to the realization that the majority of people do not think or want someone who thinks like you to be in charge. Boehner has to choose between doing what is right for the country versus doing what the conservative cult wants him to do. Now, I think he did this for pure political reasons and still is a giant douche bag... but at least it was done.

Oh, you mean the reason he voted against it 2006 wasn't to score cheap political points? Thank God the real reason was he just needed a little educating from his trusted "economic team". I'd hate for you to have to admit he's a partisan hack just like the rest of them.

This has nothing to do about Obama. He was dumb then in 2006, and I don't think it was done for cheap political points. I honestly think he had a misguided belief that not increasing the debt ceiling in order to fund a war he did not want was the right thing to do. Now he understands that regardless of wars or what is going on, the debt ceiling is not the battle to solve those problems. I have no clue what else you want me to say about Obama making dumb statements and decisions in 2006.

Well I was wrong about his motivation then. What does this matter? Lol

At this point, what difference does it make? :Carcajada: . Seriously, Obama blew it in 2006, but unlike some who are never able to admit they are wrong and screw themselves into the ground with their wrongheadedness, Obama admits he was wrong, and moves on to correct things he was wrong about. That's one of the good qualities of the man.

Exactly, people on this forum can learn something from Obama. Just because you think something stupid today does not mean you have to think those same stupid thoughts tomorrow.
