Bet of the day (Friday, May 28th)
New York Mets +110 (Glavine & Willis must start)
NYM with Glavine on the mound are perfect 2-0 this season after a NYM loss and Glavine's win (or a team win in his last start) with a combined 10:3 score in two games, winning both games as underdogs. Florida with Willis on the mound is 0-3 following a team win and Willis' loss (or a team loss) in his last start (two upset losses). NYM won 9 of their last 13, and last four with rest. FLA is only 2-6 lately in game #1 of a series following a win. NYM are 10-5 in series openers and 4-0 following a loss. Glavine is in excellent form allowing two earned runs or less in 7 of his last 10 starts. NYM won his last three starts, as he allowed 4 ER in 22.2 IP while striking out 17, walking only 3 batters and giving up only 12 hits in 22.2 IP. In his career he's been very good against FLA, and in his last 4 starts vs the Marlins, he allowed only 5 ER in 27.1 IP. The Mets lost three of those four games as they failed to give him the run support he needed. This time around, the Mets offense is a lot more consistent, scoring 4 runs or more in six straight games. Willis is really struggling lately, and the Marlins lost 5 of his last 6 starts. In his last 5 starts he allowed 22 ER in 24 IP. He won all of his three career starts vs NYM, allowing only 1 ER in 21 IP but NYM were a very bad team back then. Finally, Glavine vs another Lefty pitcher has been a good situation for the Mets lately, as they won last two games in this spot, outscoring the opponents 5:0, while Willis/Fla lost their last three against another Lefty starter by a combined score of 10:22. There is too much value to pass up on this proven veteran facing a struggling youngster today.
