Background:
I travel, a lot, for work. This has led to a nice paycheck, gaining 40 pounds, high cholesteral, and some family strife. I promosed my wife no (or almost no) work on weekends, daily exercise (lost about 10 pounds), and to take better care of myself.
Situation:
I'm working on a high profile 1 month assignment in Richmond, VA. The air travel is killing me (used to the train to NYC). Another opportunity just came up that my boss wants to do, it will involve circa 40 hours of work between next week and the end of June, including a trip to Detroit. I would have to do this work IN ADDITION to the 50-60 hours I am already working. No extra pay or any tangible benefit. I know myself, I am unlikely to be able to do any extra work on Mondays (wake 5 am and air travel), or Thursday (return air travel). If I don't do it on the weekends, this means my 32 hours would be 3 hours/night every Tuesday and Wednesday for the next 4-5 weeks, plus I would need to make up the day trip to my current client (another 10 hours of overtime)
Question:
What is the best way to convey to my boss that while I am flattered he wants me to handle it, I would really rather not at this time. (I'm also going to Tahoe at the end of June for a wedding for a week, and would rather not be completely destroyed when I do).
All constructive advise is appreciated.
