JJ,

Notre Dame never recruited "from the gutter" but it's a different time now.

If it weren't for that stupid TV deal they have they wouldn't need to pack their schedule with Top 25 teams and they could win more games. Too much parity in NCAA now to play a schedule like that and expect anything.

They need to get in the Big 10, lose the TV deal (they'll have all games televised in big 10) and soften up their schedule a bit. Then they'll be fine.

None of that is going to happen of course... And I'm sure there are 100 reasons that the administration could give against doing that.

Funny story... Right before Willingham was fired I was having a discussion with a co-worker and we both agreed that Willingham wouldnt be fired and then I walk back to my computer and see that he had been. LOL. OOPS.

As much as it pains me to say this, I agree with JJ.

ND's lack of success is a direct correlation of their raising the standards of admission for athletes. To think they can compete with the USC's, Oklahoma's, Auburn's of the world while raising the bar higher simply does not work today.

It's unfortunate, but it's the truth.

I wonder what that rag Sports Illustrated will say about Ty resigning. I still have the cover issue that has ND on the after a 3-0 start in Ty's first year, and on the cover it says, "what about the coach!", as if to say he turned the program around and now they are a powerhouse. Notre Dame has tanked ever since. SI jinx you might say.

They had good recruiting classes in the last 4 years, how can you say they can't recruit? At some point lousy results with top 10 annual recruiting classes has to be on the coach and he took the fall for it. Still I think he is a great coach and would love to have him come back to the Pac 10 up in Seattle. Not to mention I am sure Stanford could do better bringing him back and dumping sorry Buddy Teevens.

I agree with that part of it...but ND was never recruiting "in the gutter"
