Just wanted to provide some useful information that I have put together from various sources. I have been reading all summer and want to say I have enjoyed being able to read quality content without the lock of the century thread getting in the way.

Anyways, here is some general information regarding the SEC if you like to use returning/lost starters in your quest to break down conferences. Look forward to this season as always.

Interesting, but I noticed that several teams have Q B's as their top rushers returning, including Florida. If a team was looking for a way to beat Flroida, you may have just found it.

I dont think Florida has too much to be worried about except for playing 12 PM games.....man, not only do they not cover in those, they struggle to win the game.

Anyone have any word on Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky??? I have not had the energy to really look in to those teams yet. I hate Petrino after what he did to the Falcons so thats why Arkansas has not got any of my time

Good stuff Leather.....

As far as Arkansas, I look for them to be MUCH, MUCH improved. Hate Petrino or not...he's an outstanding college football coach. He was one of a handful of coaches I did not want to see take over an SEC program (Leach is among the others). He doesn't quite have the talent he needs to compete w/ UF or Bama just yet. But I think they will be a top 20 team this year....and a perennial top 10-20 team throughout his tenure. He'll give Bama and LSU a run for their money year in and year out.

BD, I think you've solved it!! Stop Tim Tebow and you can beat UF!!! That's been a real simple formula!

UF will field a pretty solid backfield this year: Jeff Demps, Emmanual Moody and Chris Rainey....plus a true freshman that should get some PT.....

So are you looking for us to get some pretty good lines this year with Arkansas and do you actually think they compete? I guess it easy to get caught up with Florida and then all the LSU, Alabama, & TN hype and a lot of people forget to dig in and see what Arkansas, Auburn, & Kentucky have. As for South Carolina, I do not know what to think about them as a team as they have been hard to cap the entire time Spurrier has been there.

Either way, I appreciate your insight and whether or not I like a coach, I like winning a bet more :)

BOL luck this season

Arkansas

Leather, just wanted to chime in if I may on Arkansas. The hype here in state is that the hogs have a legitimate QB in Ryan Mallet (transfer from Michigan). He's 6ft 7 and has a CANNON for an arm. Also returning is Rb Michael Smith (1000 yr rusher LY), TE DJ Williams (1st team SEC), and some capable WR's. So offensively speaking, Arkansas has some weapons for Petrino to utilize. The biggest concern is the defense. AR returns most of their tacklers from LY but is the same guys that placed them last in most statistical categories. AR did play 18 freshmen LY (3rd in the country) so the young guys do have some game experience. We will see how they perform in their 2nd year with Petrino. Hope this helps. Alot of press is calling the hogs the "dark horse". I hope so as I'm a fan. Gl this year. Hope this might help you in wagering this season.

Good to hear from you Koopsta....Well lets hope the hype and the press do not get too involved with them being a "dark horse" as we know that can drive a line down. I always like to look at these types of teams as opposed to a team like Florida where everyone will be trying to play there best game of the year against them. I was an athlete in college and know that when you have a bulls eye on your back, teams that you never thought had a chance someway, somehow play the game of their life and either win, or just barely lose. Funny things happen....I cant wait for the opening college lines to get out so I can get too capping these games.

BOL this season and as alwasys, look forward to your picks.

LB,

Koopsta summed up Arkansas pretty good. They've recruited well, and it is only logical to expect the young players from last year to get bigger, faster and stronger (look at the significant improvement UF's D made from 07 to 08 after playing so many freshman in 07). The athletes at Arkansas are solid and w/ the offense they'll have they only need to make a marginal improvement....Arkansas' offense was pretty bad early in the year last season. As I said before, Petrino is a very good college football coach. I wouldn't be surprised to see them knock off one of the 3 West "contenders" (LSU, Ole Miss or Bama - look for a home win).

As far as Spurrier goes, I agree that he's been hard to handicap at SC since he's been there. However, this "should" be his best offense since he's been there. I'm curious to see how they do out of the gate against UGA. UGA will be coming off a road game at Oklahoma State, it will be a good chance for SC to take advantage.

Tennessee has lost their Top WR for the first couple of games this season. They also lost their #2 WR for the entire season. When I said to stop Tebow, I meant on the ground. Make him throw the ball to beat you. If you stop him on the ground, you have taken away a huge part of Florida's offense, becuase they have no one to replace Harvin this year. It helps if you have a couple of fast LB's.

Garcia is the real deal... you never hear Spurrier talk highly of a QB unless he is a stud.

I disagree... We'll have to just wait and see if UF can replace Harvin. Tons of horses in the stable.. time will tell

I agree with you, the farm is full of horses and Florida will play to their strengths and that is rely on Tebow to do what he does and in the mean time some other star will emerge or develop. Thats the beauty of what they have going for this year. As for covering the steep spreads, only time will tell.....

The one thing that I find rather inetereting is the lack of experiecen at the QB position in the SEC. Eliminate the two studs, Tebow and Snead, and who is left? A bunch of poor QB's who played last year and would need huge improvment to impress anyone, or a bunch of new, untested kids. Is their any doubt that if Georgia finds a real good QB, they will be in a much more challenging position than they are in pre-season? The same can be said about Alabama and LSU in the West, though I still like Alabama to win the SEC West. Returning QB 's Crompton, Burns, Hartline, and Lee do not impress me at all. Some coaches are actually ;looking to replace last years starting QB's this season.

I guess you missed the SECCG last year? Tebow can beat you with his arm - those that think differently end up getting dealt a "L". You can go back to the LSU game his freshman year.

Besides, most of Tebow's runs aren't designed runs. They come off of breakdowns in plays. Kinda hard to just shut that down.

The replacements for Harvin are Demps and Rainey and a couple of freshmen - Debose and Gillislee, but it's expected they'll do fine.

Regarding Arky, I think they are a dark horse for the west this year if they can do anything on defense. I expect their offense to scare some people this year. They get UGA, AU, USCe, and MSU at home. The bad news is they play OM, Bama, LSU, and UF on the road. The shocker is that right now, I think they might win 2 of these games. If they can, they should finish no worse than 2nd in the west.
