MISSISSIPPI STATE came out of nowhere last year leading the nation in yards allowed
per play after six consecutive seasons ranked 40th or worst. The Bulldogs ranked 4th
nationally in total defense. A return to mediocrity is likely this season after losing three
top players to the first round of the NFL draft. DT Jeffery Simmons was drafted 19th,
followed by DE Montez Sweat 26th and S Johnathan Abram 27th. Also, the quarterback
who is the SEC's all time leading rusher for QBs has moved on to the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Mississippi State has some good players returning but not of the caliber of Simmons,
Sweat and Abram.

LSU is one of five power-conference teams to rank in the top 33 nationally in yards
allowed per play in each of the past five seasons. The others are Alabama, Clemson,
Michigan and Penn State. That's good company if you're looking for good defense,
and the Tigers should easily finish in the top 33 again this season. If stud safety Grant
Delpit says healthy and if freshman cornerback Derek Stingley is even half as good as
advertised, this might be the best defense in the SEC. LSU lost some good players to
the NFL but return six of last years top seven tacklers. Beware of the Tiger defense.

Agreed.

This is the first year, in a long time, where LSU avoided a lot of underclassmen declaring for the NFL. There are five guys returning on the defense that could have declared early.....two of them on the D-line. Plus we add Stingley and Chaisson returns from injury.

LSU lost greedy and White (stud). Do you think any of those 5 guys who are coming back are better than greedy or White? (just asking as i dont follow LSU much)

Also, is the DL Lawrence coming back? That guy was a STUD at the fiesta bowl

Greedy won't be missed. He could cover, but he would NOT tackle.....and he paid for that in the draft.

There is no "replacing" a Devon White. He's a generational player......BUT we return every other linebacker and those guys are really, really good. Plus we get a premier pass rusher in Chaisson who is another generational player....people just haven't heard of him yet.

Yes, Lawrence is back, along with Fehoko and Tyler Shelvin. That is three really big men on the DL and they all have two guys behind them that have a ton of experience. LSU is loaded at DL this year.

The DB position will be the best in the SEC. Wait until you see Stingley play CB and return punts. This kid is a once in a lifetime player like Patrick Peterson.

And, on offense we return the entire offensive line, ALL of the wide receivers, QB and RB. PLUS, we have two five star RB's coming in the freshman class.

This will be LSU's best team in a decade.

Florida - What a difference coaching makes. Gator fans might have been ready to write
off quarterback Feleipe Franks as an SEC starter, and concerns lingered midway through
the 2018 season when he struggled in consecutive loses to Georgia and Missouri. But
everything changed in Florida's final four games of the season. In wins over S. Carolina,
Idaho, Florida State and Michigan, Franks threw twelve touchdowns and zero interceptions
while playing like the kind of quarterback we've come to expect under Dan Mullen. For
the year, his ratings (143.3) and completion percentage (58.3) fell short of the best signal
callers in the SEC, but he finished with 24 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions and renewed
hope in a program that for years has struggled to develop a difference maker at the all
important position. Franks is still a question mark to many Gator faithful and will need to
validate he's really the man for 2019.

Arkansas - Chad Morris received a rude welcoming to the SEC last year as the
Razorbacks posted a 2-10 and 0-8 in the SEC losing by an average of 22.6
points per game. 2019 will be much improved.

Missouri - Barry Odom has improved every year after starting 4-8 in 2016. The
Tigers went 7-6 in 2017 and finished 8-5 last year. That's certainly a good sign
but having a 10-14 mark in the SEC is not.

South Carolina - Will Muschamp has proven he is a good defensive coordinator
but not so much as a head coach. He was 29-21 leading Florida and 22-17 so
far at South Carolina. The guy is hard to figure out at times.

Clover,

whats your thoughts on alcohol at the stadiums?

hopefully the home fans don’t treat the visiting fans even worse because of this.

I think it is a BIG mistake.

I remember back in the 70s I attended a Georgia game and this drunk guy behind me kept
bothering my girlfriend. I ask him twice to leave her alone, the third time I decked him and
we were both thrown out of the game. Fans near by took my side but was still not allowed
to stay and watch the game. This all happened at the beginning of the second quarter so I
listened to the rest of the game outside on the radio.

Now I like a cold beer as well as anyone but I can't stand to be around drunks during sporting
events.

SEC's Fastest Players
(no certain order)

*Derek Stingley, CB, LSU. Stingley has run a 4.30 40-yard dash. He's the son of a
football coach and very smart. He could become an instant star for LSU as a true
freshman.

*Henn Buggs, WR, Alabama. Buggs has been clocked at 4.25 in the 40-yard dash and
was the top rated wide receiver in the 2017 class. He's part of the best receiving corps
Bama has ever had.

*Javris Davis, CB, Auburn. Davis has run the 40-yard dash in 4.24 seconds and had his
best season last year with 41 tackles, 2 interceptions and 8 pass defended.

*Kary Vincent, CB, LSU. Vincent has run the 100-meter in 10.07 which is the fourth fastest
time in LSU history. Last season, he accounted for 31 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception and
6 passes defended.

*Anthony Schwartz, WR, Auburn. Schwartz has run the 100-meter in 10.09 seconds. He was
the number one track recruit nationally in the 2018 cycle. He scored 7 touchdowns as a true
freshman for Auburn last year and is a threat to score with every touch.

**LSU may have the best corner back combo in the nation this season with Vincent and Stingley.
If not the best...they are certainly the fastest. I can't wait to see how Bama's receivers match up
against them this season.

Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead has lost 50 pounds in recent months using
intermittent fasting where he spends a 16-hour window not consuming over 50 calories
and drinking only water. He looks lean and mean and has set a good example for his
team and staff.

I hate to see a fat slob coach on the sidelines of a ballgame with little to no discipline.
Do as I say...not as I do attitude. Tennessee's offensive coordinator Jim Chaney is a
good example of lack of personal discipline. He's an embarrassment to the football
program. Remember Charlie Weis when he was OC for Florida. He would have to sit
down when the defense had the ball because of his weight and physical condition.

Way to set a good example coach Moorhead!
