Way to many IFS at the moment.

Nothing is even close to being clear.

Even though Ohio St has the upper hand on Michigan St at the moment in the rankings....It`s not a given that Ohio St will beat Michigan St.....So that`s a big IF.

Even though Baylor has the upper hand on TCU in the rankings at the moment.....It`s not a given that Baylor will beat TCU.....So another big IF.

You also mentioned what if Alabama and Ole Miss win out....Well,what if LSU wins out???

1st off Ole Miss is out of the picture....Forget them.

LSU will crack the top 4 Monday.....Utah is gone....LSU takes that spot.

The key for you 1osubucks is to bet your team to win the National Championship again because they will. Right now I'm thinking the four best teams ( Utah never was one of the four best teams but the pollsters had needle marks in their arms ) are Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and who knows...I'm hoping Baylor or TCU do get in this year because they will need to use an adding machine to count the points the above three score on either. HOMER it's THEE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES again so enjoy it. The up and coming program looks to be the Clemson Tigers, but look for them to be in the mix again next year...

ND or Stanford will get the next spot if they win out in your scenario. Please note ND last game of the regular season is at Stanford. If ND and Stanford do not win out in your scenario then Bama. I do not see any other possible answer to your question then the one I have given.

LSU or Bama are the only SEC teams w/ a legitimate shot at the NC this year.....and one of them (at least) will lose 1 more game (they play each other)....and then UGA or Florida could pull an upset in the SEC Championship game, which would leave the SEC out of the playoff.

The point 1osubucks is trying to make is that Ole Miss is actually in the drivers seat for the sec west. They hold tie breaker vs Bama and play LSU at home. If they win out, they go to Atlanta but still likely have no shot at playoff even if winning championship. Maybe Bama would still go if they were 11-1 with only loss to Ole Miss despite not making conference championship?

Clemson will slip up....always do. No ACC.
OSU/MSU will get one spot.
Winner of ND/Stanford....unless the winner drops another game between now and then.

So that's two spots taken.....

TCU & Baylor will get the snub again.....but more deserving this year.

That leaves a possibility of Bama beating LSU this year and winning the SEC. LSU doesn't drop another game, but has one loss to a top 3 team by season end......

At that point does the SEC get 2 teams in or do they give non 5 a chance like an undefeated Memphis team?

The most interesting things here are the Oklahoma schools on the big 12.... Ok state is pretty decent and if they catch Baylor or tcu on an average day they will beat them.... Oklahoma could do a lot of damage. Their defense is capable of slowing tcu and Baylor down and if they can get Mixon and Perine going they won't even need baker mayfield to do anything..... Baylors run defense is atrocious and tcus defense is just bad overall.... Oklahoma likely won't beat both teams but they should beat one of the two by simply rushing for 300+ yards and controlling the ball

just my opinion for what it's worth

Things will fall into place.....I'm sure there will be 1 team that will sneak in (FSU maybe?) and 1 team that gets left out that everyone bitches about.

How about the Baylor QB breaking his neck?

correct ! there are a lot of teams in the running of course and ones i mentioned could lose.. my thoughts were this, ole miss wins sec ( in the drivers seat ) are they bypassed by the team they beat? this could be interesting because computers are not making the pick.. can imagine the conversation about this one by the committee.

personally think bama beats ole miss if they play again and bama imo is the best team in the sec .. no disrespect to sec or lsu but the conference is down from previous years.. i was taken aback watching sec channel last night and they were talking about the lsu win as a "big" win over fcs... really? if Florida qb was there they would be a tuff out.. just my opinion but I see alabama and everyone else, of course there are some good teams, but not as strong as years past. there may be more bad teams in the sec this year then in a very long time. Bama was in a letdown spot last week after the hyped am game. I still say they are one of the best if not the best team in the country.

The talent on that Alabama team is just amazing. IDK who the kid was on the last drive but made a catch on the sideline that was eye opening.. he went up and just grabbed the ball with his hands, impressive. I think the only weakness and it may not be a weakness, but the only thing bama cant do well is throw the ball downfield which has to be a QB issue.. the way the pound the ball on teams they should be able to pull it out and throw it over the top down field when ever they want. I am sure lsu and others may play them well when considering emotion and situation but there is no other team more talented then bama.. if they had a stud at QB could you imagine the damage they would do.

I like how everyone automatically assumes its going to be Ohio or MSU coming out of the big 10. Like iowa has zero shot of beating them. Besides the fact that if Michigan beats ohio and Ohio beats MSU it then would go to a three way tie breaker provided they all win the rest of their games to even get to the big 10 champ game. Which I think would come down to who is ranked the highest which would probably be Michigan in that instance. But either way Iowa is a virtual lock to be the big 10 west rep in the title game

Ole Miss has a second loss. Winning a conference championship is not part of any formal criteria (remember who won the championship after the 2011 season?). At this point in time, it seems entirely reasonable that Alabama would get the spot should both teams win out. Ole Miss could get a lift, but it would need to look better than Alabama against common opponents, play a 1-loss Florida in Atlanta, and just for insurance, root for other playoff contenders to lose along the way. I think the head-to-head angle works in Ole Miss' favor if they have the same record, or if they look more dominating to close the season. It's possible, but I'd give the edge to Alabama. For any two teams with comparable strength of schedules, look at their record...if it's the same, look at head-to-head. That's how I'd evaluate them. All Ole Miss has to worry about is winning their last 4 games, they are not in position to bitch about getting left out yet.

It seems like whenever these scenarios come up, a team loses that makes it irrelevant; I'm sure that will happen here as well. But interesting to assess, regardless.

Would be shocked if they didn't.. State is depleted the O line, cannot block to run the ball and may be their worse defense in a few years. Osu carved them up on their home turf last year and this year really should be the same.. I hope everyone keeps talking up Michigan, they are another "Utah" IMO. They play hard and give it their all but have zero talent at skill positions and secondary, LB are very avg at best. If osu jumps up on them early it could be a route. Their offense is built to control tempo and ball. If the have to do play catch up put a fork in them.. A buckeye fork :)

Greetings Bernie,

I think it's funny how people forget that there's a whole bunch more football to the west of Texas and Oklahoma.
I'll just cut to the quick and say that Stanford has been moving up in the polls on a weekly basis, last seen as #8.
Kevin Hogan has been having a pretty good year and Christian McCaffrey has been killing it at the RB position. On
the defensive side they've been playing as good as they are known to play.

Last year people wrote them off from having a slow start missing Andrew Luck to run the offense. Filling his shoes
proved to be no easy task. So for the first 8 weeks they seemed to flounder, but by week 8 or 9, David Webb had
enough time to groom Kevin Hogan for the job and their offense woke up. Now they are good for anywhere from
30 to 50 points per game. Other than having a "hiccup" in Week 1 (like many teams do in the opening week) they
seem invincible.
