5 of the last 12 years the #1 overall pick has been a SEC QB from 5 different schools!! and Florida isnt even one of those 5 with all the QB's they have had

thats strong.

thats why the SEC is so far ahead of the other conferences - all 12 teams have talent every year....even Vanderbilt put Jay Cutler in the 1st rd

I dunno man. That is pretty selective and hardly makes a case for SEC QB's on the whole if that's your point. It depends on how you count but to say the SEC is thus far on top of the NFL draft is a huge stretch of the truth, only true in an SEC homey's eyes. The rest of us who know how to count would disagree.

So far most of the way through round 2, I count 11 from the Pac-10 and only 8 from the SEC. If there were as many teams in the Pac-10 as there are in the SEC the total would likely be higher. I believe the Big-East has 9 so far and they are in 2nd place. Oops, SEC just tied the Big-E with Marks (Auburn) going #30 in the 2nd round. Nope sorry, another UCONN player went #31 so that puts the SEC in 3rd thus far behind the Pac-10 and Big East.

BOL

PS... I didn't count the ACC yet. But they look like they are holding their own nicely.

atop means on top, as in #1...if you could read youd understand that was the point...the #1 overall pick is an SEC QB as it has been 5 of last 12 drafts

talent is so spread around in the SEC its insane - which was the point about the 5 diff schools.

take away USC players and the pac-10 had one 1st rounder compared to 8 by the SEC from 6 different schools

im not debating USCs talent - im saying for the 100th time..take away USC and the pac-10 is a joke - this draft reinforces that opinion

thats impressive i guess. of course 2 of those qb's are busts including tim couch who is one of the biggest busts ever. And lets be honest Stafford now plays for Detroit. He will Probably be a bust as well. Good thing you got the Manning boys

Stafford has all the tools. Proper play calling and good repetition will aleviate some of his questionable decisions. Maybe.

But I agree that he doesn't have the personnel around him. This is the NFL though and as we all know that can change in a season.

He's kind of a hot head too. But one thing is for sure and Pac-10 people aren't going to want to hear this, but he plays against the best defensive talent the nation has to offer so it was a no brainer for Stafford to go ahead of the likes of Sanchez, freeman, etc.

hard to call Stafford a bust the day after the draft....

regardless, 5 DIFFERENT teams having a #1 pick in a 12 year span from the same conference shows conference strength.
florida had 2 heisman winning QB's during this time too that are not included in those 5

I'm not calling him a bust allready. what I said was he is going to Detroit. a team known for making some of the worst decisions in the NFL. I don't care how talented a qb is the team he plays for has some determining factor in how good he is. Do you think tom brady would be tom brady if he didn't get drafted by new england. he may have still been good but he wouldn't be in the conversation of best ever if he was taken by Detroit. thats gaurnteed.

Case in point. Detroit just drafted stafford. Detroit had a absolutly terrible o-line. Detroit had the #20 pick in the draft and could've taken a left tackle by the name of Michael Oher, who some scouts had projected to go in the top 10. they didn't. In fact we are threw 4 rounds of the draft and detroit has yet to take any o-lineman. Detroit is who we thought they were and it is going to be hard for Stafford to succeed on that team.

Whoopeee! Let's hear it for the SEC.

Sanchez goes to the big apple and Stafford goes to the big grease slick. Things have a way of working themselves out.

Good... maybe Sanchez will surprise and not be a bust like about everyone that comes out of USC in recent memory. Mike Williams made a great decision by leaving early. And Dwayne Jarrett, is he still in the league?

Houston's best move was not taking Bush.

draft picks per conference and what the average is for per team in the conference

SEC 37 = 3.3

Big 12 27 = 2.3

Big 10 28 = 2.5

ACC 33 = 2.5

Pac 10 32 = 3.2

Big East 27 = 3.2

Div 1 Other 47 = .9

Div2+ 23

despite your poor math skills - thanks for posting

SEC had more picks, and more 1st rd picks

cant wait to see how Conan twists this around....

You're right, I have poor math skills. SEC had only 3.1 players per team selected. Putting them behind the Pac-10 and Big East

hahaha

only in disneyworld is 37 "behind" 32

11 of those 32 from USC
take them out and what do you have? 2.2 per team

You don't understand the concept of how the SEC has more teams so it has more picks? On a per team basis the SEC is behind.

Using your logic the minor D1 programs are better than the SEC because they had more players picked.
