Yea, I guess no GM thinks he's reliable anymore. If he stays healthy 15 mill will be a bargain. The guy is a stud when healthy.

Vikings to roll with McCarthy, not pursuing Rodgers.

The Minnesota Vikings are moving past their discussions with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, leaving second-year player J.J. McCarthy atop the quarterback depth chart as offseason practices approach, sources told ESPN.
The Vikings spent the better part of a week considering their options after Rodgers made clear he preferred to sign with the team, sources said. The internal deliberations intensified after 2024 starter Sam Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks and free agent Daniel Jones, whom the Vikings envisioned as a veteran wingman for McCarthy, rejected their contract offer and signed instead with the Indianapolis Colts.
Minnesota has received trade interest in McCarthy but has rebuffed those inquiries, a source told ESPN, confirming an NFL Network report.
McCarthy has recovered from surgery in August to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, an injury that made him the first quarterback in the modern draft era to be selected in the first round and miss his entire rookie season because of injury. Signing Rodgers would have added a future Hall of Fame quarterback to a team that won 14 games last season and likely would have pushed McCarthy's timetable to the 2026 season.
Instead, the Vikings plan to give McCarthy their first-team snaps during OTA practices and minicamp, sources said. Should McCarthy get reinjured or demonstrate a need for more development time, the Vikings could revisit their discussions with Rodgers before the start of training camp if he has not signed elsewhere.
Sources described the possibility of Rodgers joining the team as "non-zero," but all along sources have maintained that there was only a small chance that coach Kevin O'Connell would upend the organizational plan for McCarthy, whom O'Connell has called "our franchise quarterback."
Most of the Vikings' moves this offseason have implied an intent to move forward with McCarthy, including the decision not to use the franchise tag on Darnold and let him move on. The Vikings have committed more than $300 million to players during the free agent period, an NFL high, in anticipation of building around McCarthy's rookie contract.
The Vikings will need to continue working to find a veteran backup for McCarthy, as multiple candidates have signed elsewhere while the Vikings discussed Rodgers. Veteran Brett Rypien is the only other quarterback on the roster. Possibilities include veterans Joe Flacco and Carson Wentz. Former Vikings starter Kirk Cousins, now a backup with the Atlanta Falcons, could also become available later this offseason.

Raiders to release QB Geno Smith, barring trade.

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The Las Vegas Raiders are releasing quarterback Geno Smith, barring a trade before the start of the new league year Wednesday, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.
By releasing Smith, the Raiders will open up $8 million in salary cap space while taking on $18.5 million in dead money.
Smith signed a two-year, $75 million extension after being traded from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick. Smith earned $40 million in 2025, all of which was fully guaranteed.
By releasing Smith, Las Vegas will have a dead salary cap hit of $18.5 million. However, the Raiders avoid paying Smith an additional $8.5 million in guarantees by moving on from him before the third day of the 2026 league year.
Initially, the Raiders hoped that pairing Smith with former head coach Pete Carroll, whom he played under for six seasons with the Seahawks, would translate to immediate success. Their plan backfired.
In 15 starts, Smith threw for 3,025 yards, 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions -- a league-high and the most he has thrown in a season since he threw 21 picks as a rookie for the New York Jets in 2013.
Smith threw nine picks in the first five games of the 2025 season.
He was also 27th in QBR (34.1) and missed two games due to injury. Raiders general manager John Spytek said at the scouting combine that he didn't want to blame Smith's struggles all on the 35-year-old signal caller. Spytek admitted that he could've put Smith in a better position to succeed.
Smith battled inconsistent pass protection. He was sacked 55 times and pressured 194. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was fired after Week 11 and tight end Brock Bowers battled a knee injury during the first half of the season.
Nonetheless, Smith's inconsistencies in the pocket factored into the Raiders putting together one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Las Vegas finished 3-14, and Carroll -- who Smith credits for rejuvenating his career -- was fired. The Raiders did secure the top pick in the 2026 NFL draft, which they are expected to use to select Smith's replacement, Indiana quarterback and Heisman trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.
Still, Spytek is not a believer in playing a young quarterback right away. Las Vegas will most likely add another veteran quarterback who will compete with Mendoza and backup Aidan O'Connell.

He'll be a good bridge QB for someone and he will play.

Raiders take a big cap hit and will pay Geno 18 million in salary, they only saved 8 million dollars

Raiders management is horrible.

Jets get their QB, trade with Raiders for Geno Smith.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- After a nine-year separation, the New York Jets and quarterback Geno Smith are together again.
Instead of waiting for him to be released, the Jets traded for Smith on Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Jets are sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for Smith and a 2026 seventh-rounder, sources told Schefter.
Smith was in the Jets' facility Tuesday morning and passed a physical, a source said.
Smith will be the Jets' starting quarterback, a job he held for the Jets from 2013 to the 2015 preseason -- until he was punched by a teammate in a locker room dispute that resulted in a fractured jaw.
