RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said this week that he thinks it's time for a white NFL player to join the protests against social injustice.
"You need a white guy to join the fight. The white guy is super important to the fight," Bennett told the Seattle Times. "For people to really see social injustices, there must be someone from the other side of the race who recognizes the problem, because a lot of times if just one race says there's a problem, nobody is realistic about it."

New England Patriots defensive end Chris Long, who is white, said recently on ESPN Radio's Russillo & Kanell that he respects Colin Kaepernick's decision to kneel during the national anthem.

"I saw Chris Long spoke out about it, but no one wants to talk about what he said and him bringing that to the forefront and speaking out against it," Kaepernick said. "That's where it gets very touchy because a white player standing up for this is like, 'OK, now we really have to address it, it isn't just black people speaking out because they feel like they're being attacked.' No, it's a real issue. And it's disproportionately an issue to people of color.

"I think it was huge that Chris stood up and took that stand. I don't know if he realizes how much that means to this movement and trying to get things changed."

Women's soccer player Megan Rapinoe, who is white, has knelt during the national anthem as a show of support for Kaepernick.

On Thursday, Bennett's teammate Doug Baldwin called for state attorney generals to review their policies and "eliminate militaristic cultures while putting a higher emphasis on de-escalation tactics and crisis management measures."

"I agree with everything that Doug is saying," Bennett said. "I think at this point in American history, there is so much going on, and you look at the situation that a lot of people are put in, and we wonder what is going on and why is this happening. So there are so many questions that people are asking, people just want to try to find solutions and how can people be seen as human beings and not seen as their color.''

During training camp, Bennett called for more athletes, specifically NFL players, to use their platform to fight against social injustice.

"I'm proud of everybody," Bennett said. "I think everybody is really standing up. In this day and age with Twitter and Facebook and all these different things, it's easy to be ridiculed when people hear you say things, and I think a lot of people were scared because of the backlash they would get. But I feel like people are standing up, and everybody just realizes, at the end of the day, it's about your opinion and trying to share your message out there because, at the end of the day, it's how many people's lives can you change and what are you doing to make a change.

"That's really what the athletes are doing now. They realize that they've got the power to make a change, and they are standing up and they are not caring what people write or what people are saying about them.''

ESPN staff writer Nick Wagoner contributed to this report.

The NFL whites know these homeboys are full of shit but don't want to say the truth because those are the same morons they work with everyday. They don't want to cause a distraction; of course the homeboys have no problem causing distractions with their " look at me" typical bullshit.

we need reasonable black men to speak out against the actions of BLM, who we're learning are nothing more than paid political pawns of the left

You have to assume an ignoramus who makes idiotic comments like this would also be stupid enough to get himself killed in a routine traffic stop if he weren't a millionaire football player.

These stupid athletes don't know which side their bread is buttered on.

Just STFU and play football!

Something funny about old white men telling young black men what they should be doing and how they should be feeling.

You do realize this is a small percentage of the black community causing the trouble right? Have any of you ever met a black person?

Maybe it's because young black men are the least successful members of society.

When young black attitudes change, police attitudes will change (not the other way around).

This is not a complicated issue, but is made impossible to solve or even discuss honestly, because of the blinders of liberal political correctness.

It has nothing to do with liberal anything. Young black men who are troublemakers don't identify with any political idealogy. You need to blame somebody and that's why you say these things. There is no magic policy that will change anything. It doesn't matter who is president or who is the mayor of large cities with large minority population. You could have 50 Ronald Reagans each running every state.....it would change nothing in the poor black communities.

Vitterd, I don't understand how you always support the anti establishment position. How is it that black athletes that are being paid millions of dollars a year to play sports are crying oppression and racism? And by the way, while we are talking about it, whenever we see a black athlete get scammed by a financial advisor or agent it is usually by a black person? It's like black on black crime/shootings are the real problem but no one wants to talk about it.

Laughable.

A space alien with no biases or prejudices landing on planet Earth for the first time could tell you what the problem is in about 5 seconds.

Black ghetto culture = failed culture

Moreover, when young white males imitate this failed culture (same poor attitude, same poor work ethic, same sense of entitlement, same juvenile rebellious nature toward authority and the instruments of that authority, aka police) the results are the same.

Look, this is nothing new. Many outspoken blacks over the years have voiced the same opinions, but by and large, those people are shouted down and rejected in the black community. They are labeled "sell outs", "uncle toms" and so forth.

Nothing will change until young black attitudes change. Blame the cops all you want, you're only exacerbating the problem - for everyone.

You really wanna talk about financial crimes? Turn on CNBC and watch American Greed. Those are mostly white crimes.

Just because somebody is now a rich athlete doesn't mean that haven't been thru racist things in the past or the present. You don't know. That's why repubs are odd to me.....it's like" they got money, so life must be perfect". It's weird thinking.

Black on black is a huge problem....no doubt...that doesn't mean you turn a blind eye to some of these shootings though.

I didn't say anything about blaming cops. I'm trying to explain to you that none is this is because of some liberal boogeyman.

It's really simple....obey the law and commands of a peace officer and chances are you will do just fine......Whites understand this rule, they follow it and thus they aren't in the streets burning their neighborhood when a White thug is shot for not following the rule.

Blacks do the complete opposite.....end of story

We are 100yrs away from solving the Black vs police issue......either something drastically changes or its 100yrs......and BLM ain't going to change shit, they're only going to make it worse and turn 100yrs into 110

Joe, I concur with what you're saying, but the fact remains, most of these black men are a product of their environment.

Growing up, they've see all this crap & are brainwashed into thinking this way. Just like there's a good chance an abused victim carries on his abuse to his kids.

Yes there are some blacks that do change, & encourage change in their children, but until you're raised in the hood, by single parenting on welfare, etc......& hearing gunshots ring out nightly, you don't know what its like to grow up in it.

I for one wouldn't wish it on.my enemies.

Being a product of that kind of environment & growing up seeing your friends & relatives harassed by the cops sticks in your brain, & creates hatred for cops.......the media & Hollywood don't help either with.the way blacks are portrayed.

Louisiana has the highest drug arrests in the US, mostly black males......they're targeted on purpose for financial gain of privatized prisons.

As for Seattle's player asking for white people to stand up......for what? To divide this country even more......like Willie stated, Soros started all this BS, & the agenda was to divide our country.....well so far he's succeeded.........this issue will only get worse as the years gone on, especially if Hillary gets into office.

If George Soros didn't exist......this same thing would be happening. The need to blame this guy is one of the strangest things I've ever seen.
