The original first time I saw it in a theatre "The Exorcist" scared the shit out of me and I was 25 years old at the time in 1973.

Now I can watch it no problem and while it still is a watchable 35 or so year old movie it also still packs a little punch in the excorcism scenes.

Believe it or not "Jaws" the original scared the shit out of people everywhere when it first came out in 1975. Today is is almost comical with the interaction of Brody, Quint and Hooper on the boat hunting the shark. First time around that movie had the whole nation staying out of the water that summer.

This scene below made everyone in the theatre scream if they were watching the movie for the first time. The mechanical shark didn't work to well so Director Steven Spieberg hardly ever showed it and that is what made Jaws so scary in it's day.

Agree on Nightmare on Elm Street.

Is there such a thing as a scary movie once you become a teenager?

Most attempts at scary movies I find extremely boring.

I was living in San Diego at the time when Jaws came out. I was into the surfing scene back there. It did have me thinking.
