HOMER ALERT:
Obviously taking MIL on both games might be seen a bit of a "stretch" (and possibly further justified by my living in the same state as the Brew Crew).
So while I am not advocating anyone tailing these two picks, I do actually like the Brew Crew's chances here. They have been slumping a bit (1-2 over the L3, 2-3 over the L5 and 4-6 over the L10) and coming out of a surprisingly difficult series with CIN. But STL has not been playing great either (same stats: 1-2 L3, 2-3 L5 and 4-6 L10).
In game #1, I am taking a chance on future star Manny Parra. He is a talented lefty from Triple-A Nashville who was 3-1 in four starts with 1.73 ERA. He has some injury issues, but is healthy now and he pitched a perfect game before being called up on Monday. He faces Brad Thompson (season ERA of 4.93 and 4.26 L3).
Neither MIL nor STL has been playing especially well of late, so I like the Brew Crew's chances to turn things around today and I am hoping the club rallies around the new kid.
In game #2, the pitching match-up features Chris Capuano (season ERA 4.64 and 4.00 L3) versus Anthoney Reyes (season ERA 6.40 amd 7.53 L3). Capuano has allowed 1 and 2 runs in his last two games and I think he is ready to get back to the form he displayed earlier in the season.
With the Cubs breathing down their backs, I am backing the Brewers to get it done today.
