Morris vs Estes
Sort of a risky play here as Morris has been getting lit up more than a depressed alcoholic at Christmas time. However I am going to roll the dice here and see what happens. Here's the things I like about the play since we are laying an expensive price on a road team....
Morris is off his game apparently but I still feel we have a big edge today on the hill. He is 8-5 with a 3.85 ERA while Estes has a 5.83 ERA and an 6-7 record. In games Estes has started the Cubs are 6-11. For their career Estes has pitched about like he does against everyone else (5-5) but Morris is 9-2 against the Cubs, this year he is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA going into today. I like Morris at Wrigley because he will not put many men on base, make them work for those 3 run homers if they get any. In 21 more innings pitched than Estes this year, Morris has allowed less hits, less runs, less earned runs and almost half the walks! In day starts this year Morris is 7-2 while Estes is 3-8.
At the plate I can't see much I don't like. The Cardinals are 3rd in all of baseball in batting average, hits, runs, OBP, slugging %, OBPS and 5th in homeruns. Cubs rank anywhere from 17th to 22nd in all those categories. When you look at what the Cards do against lefties like Estes is they hit even better, .305 for the year and at .538 they lead everyone in slugging percentage. In fact in the Cards last 10 games they are hitting a ridiculous .388 against lefthanded pitching. Cubs meanwhile are hitting .237 against righthanders.
I could go on and on here but I just like the Cards today. I have the game at almost -150 today, someone is wrong. Cubs are playing poor baseball right now, they are 2-8 in their last 10 games and against STL are 3-12 in the last 15 times they have gotten together. A bad team can start playing well and vice versa but for today I'll play with the better team and roll the dice. Good luck men.
