hope everyone's having a great holiday weekend. some fantastic racing today (looks like cerveza is on fire again at calder, which is nice to see). i will be playing the big pick 6 at hollywood today, but here's some spot plays.
r3: feb eleven. not thrilled with taking stute/garcia youngsters, but think we'll get some value on this son of stormin' fever as this is a pretty salty group of 2 yo straight maidens. 'eleven has been training well, and should get a good trip from one of the outside slots. there's a ton of speed in here to pounce and run for home. not the most likely winner, just the best gamble on the card.
r7: belleski/lindsay jean entry. really like both in here, particularly belleski as she's stretching out of a very solid sprint return. this is a real scramble, but southern oasis has been give yet another layoff and magic mission seems to hang when the real running begins. polygreen will be the chalk, and will be tough, but there's not much that separates these turf distaffers and belleski, i believe, will be a stakes winner very soon, and hopefully today.
r9: hazen. a friend of mine loved poison ivy last time and she did not disappoint with a nice first over trip on the tiring speed. she beat hazen that day, but i think haen has a big chance to turn the tables today. while there's not a ton of speed signed on, flores should have her placed a big more forwardly than espinoza did last time and perhaps she won't have as much to do inside the 16th pole this afternoon. given the bad last race, i hope to get at least 9/2 on this one.
r10: freedom's key. i bet ivan motley last time and he put in a good run to be second. today, i'm backing the better price and freedom's key, who if stops trying to gawk around and jump shadows, he should be very tough up close to the pace today. this is another loaded race, so price is key and think the price is right with freedom's key.
good luck.
