Both start pitchers here have found a lot of success as of late.
Trevor Bauer continues to improve with each start, as he has really come to form since his spot in the rotation was secured with Josh Tomlin's injury.
Jason Vargas goes for the Royals and he's dominated the Indians. He enters play 6-1 with a 3.17 ERA over 11 starts. This season he has just a 0.87 ERA in 2 outings as he's simply flustered this lineup completely.

I want to get behind Chris Sale and a hot Red Sox squad that has won 14 of their last 17 games. Laying 1 1/2 runs on the run line is the way to do it without laying monster juice. Sale is the likely AL Cy Young Award winner. The southpaw has held five of his last six opponents to one or no runs. He has a 1.19 ERA in three starts versus the Yankees this season. Believe it or not, Sale's career ERA against the Yankees is even lower. It's 1.18 in 13 appearances, including 10 starts. The Yankees don't hit lefties nearly as well as righies. During Sale's past 16 victories, 15 of them have been by more than one run. CC Sabathia didn't look good before going on the DL with knee trouble giving up 12 runs in his last 13 1/3 innings. I'm not expecting much from Sabathia in his first start since going on the DL following an Aug. 8 start.

Arizona lost Game 1 of this series in Minnesota by a score of 10-3, but the D'Backs are favored to bounce back in Game 2.

Zack Greinke will toe the slab for Arizona, and he's having a phenomenal season. The veteran is 14-5 with a 3.01 ERA, and he's been the epitome of consistency. He's 3-1 with a 3.43 ERA in his last six starts.

The Twins will hand the ball to Jose Berrios, who started off hot but has faded in the second half. The 23 year old was rocked for six runs on six hits and a pair of walks over just 3 1/3 innings in a loss at Detroit his last time out. He's 2-3 with a 6.18 ERA in six starts since the All Star break.

Paul Goldschmidt is a favorite to win the NL MVP, and he comes in batting .339 with seven home runs in the month of August.

Fulmer's return from the disabled list didn't go too well. He walked three batters in the first inning alone and finished with five runs allowed in five innings. Ryu, who tossed a career high (108) in pitches in his last start, can't be too happy to see the Tigers. His lone start against them came on 7/8. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings and gave up seven earned runs, a career high, on 10 hits. We could see some more fireworks on Saturday afternoon. Consider the Over.

The Texas Rangers are still alive in the wild card race despite their struggles this season. They are only 1.5 games out of the final wild card spot. They have gone 7-2 in their last nine games and cannot afford another loss to the Chicago White Sox, who are 46-73 on the year.

The Rangers have scored 40 runs in their last five games for an average of 8.0 runs per game. That's why I'm not concerned about backing Martin Perez, who is just an average starter. His offense will have his back. And in Perez's only career home start against the White Sox, he pitched 9 shutout innings in a 12-0 Rangers' victory.

Texas' lineup should light up Derek Holland, who is 6-12 with a 6.07 ERA and 1.675 WHIP in 23 starts, 3-5 with a 7.07 ERA in 11 road starts, and 1-2 with a 7.90 ERA in his last three starts. Holland gave up 5 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 4-10 loss to the Rangers on July 1st in his only career start against them.

The White Sox are 3-14 in Holland's last 17 starts. Chicago is 0-7 in Holland's last seven starts vs. a team with a losing record. The White Sox are 14-38 in their last 52 road games. The Rangers are 9-1 in their last 10 Saturday games. Bet the Rangers on the Run Line Saturday.

But the problem with them all season has been pitching as they surrender 5.5 runs per game on the season, including 7.0 runs per game in their last seven. The Royals could not muster any offense off Corey Kluber and the bullpen last night in a 10-1 loss to fall 6.5 games out of first place in the American League Central. Kansas City is now a game over .500 but is just a game out of the second American League Wild Card spot and looks to reverse the outcome tonight in what is a good spot to do so. Cleveland had a six-game winning streak snapped in the second game of its double-header on Thursday but it did not stay down for long as the offense has scored seven or more runs in four of its last five games. Keeping that up will be an issue as the Indians have 22 losses against left-handed starters this season which is the third most in baseball behind the Reds and Giants. Jason Vargas has taken a step back after a great start to the season but most of that damage has been on the road. He is 7-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 home starts and two of those games came against the Indians where he allowed no runs in 15 combined innings. The Royals are 24-9 in his last 33 starts. Cleveland counters with Trevor Bauer who has been on a solid run of four straight quality starts and in his last outing, he struck out 11 Red Sox. After that though he tossed two-thirds of an inning on Thursday in that Game Two against Minnesota and that could mess up his routine. Indianapolis should have a better defense than they had last year. Their LBs will make sure of that. Although it's only pre-season, of course, we will be sure to see Barkevious Mingo and Edwin Jackson applying some much needed pressure on QBs. Stephen Morris has a decent enough arm with a soft touch - and he has enough to beat the safeties of Dallas down field. The Colts have had some issues with scoring but their offense is still good enough to hang on here vs a team struggling to find its identity right now. The Cowboys have some scoring issues, player issues and their guys finding ways of getting open. Kellen Moore vs the Rams wasn't impressive, even for a pre-season game. Because of their Dline not getting the better penetration the Cowboys had expected - the QBs of Indy will be able to have the time to find their receivers. Colts are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and the Cowboys backup QB's have looked awful so far. Indianapolis wins taking the points

Last night the Nationals won 7-1 on the coast after Scherzer was put on the DL. Young RHP Grace started and threw 4-1/3 allowing just 2 hits and no earned runs. Here Washington brings back another stud hurler with Strasburg showing off 4 weeks of retooling with an elbow injury. On the road this season, the hurler is 7-1 with a 2.37 ERA. Behind the hurler, the Nats have won 6 straight against the Padres. Overall Washington is 45-12 in Strasburg starts and 5-0 vs. LHP. San Diego picked up just 4 hits last night in the loss and now use lefty Wood (2-4, 6.46). This is not so much a case of Cincinnati and Atlanta tearing the cover off the ball because they have great offense, rather because for the most part either starting pitcher isn't worth a damn. The Reds thought they had a great collection of young arms and were set for the future, turns out nearly all them are in the bullpen not having starter stuff and the latest not getting the job done is Robert Stephenson (6.64 ERA). We will cut the young man some slack being a rookie, but he is 24. However, we are not cutting Julio Teheran (4.98) any slack, having pitched in the big leagues for six seasons and for some reason he's developed a phobia about new Sun Trust Park and has ERA of 7.08 there. I am seeing both 9.5 or 10 and I like the OVER either way.
