KEY STAT: Middlesbrough have lost on just three of their last eight visits to Elland Road

EXPERT VERDICT: Middlesbrough comfortably beat Birmingham at home in their opening game and they should be smiling again at a club that has descended into a farce under madcap owner Massimo Cellino. Leeds are set for a season-long struggle and Boro can take full advantage.

RECOMMENDATION: Middlesbrough

KEY STAT: Celtic's last nine league goals have come in the second half

EXPERT VERDICT: Rangers have had a poor start to the season and, while Falkirk are not as strong as the Hibs team they drew with and the Hearts team they lost against, the Bairns still provide a tough test. If Ally McCoist's side are not fully focused they could be in for a difficult evening.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw-Celtic double result

KEY STAT: Swansea lost 70 per cent of their matches against top-half sides last season

EXPERT VERDICT: With Manchester United’s underachieving squad responding positively to the new regime under Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils can make a fast start against a Swansea side they beat home and away last season. United have been impressive in pre-season, scoring heavily in high-profile friendly victories against Roma, Real Madrid and Liverpool.

RECOMMENDATION: Man Utd-Man Utd double result

KEY STAT: Arsenal beat Palace 2-0 home and away last season

EXPERT VERDICT: Crystal Palace enjoyed a meteoric rise under Tony Pulis last term, taking an impressive 38 points from 26 games, but it should be noted that the vast majority of those positive results came against struggling opponents. On the road, Palace lost nine of their ten games against top-half teams and Arsenal can land a comfortable success.

RECOMMENDATION: Arsenal 2-0

KEY STAT: Hull only picked up 12 away points last season

EXPERT VERDICT: Most of QPR’s summer rebuild has been focused on the defence, and their survival hopes are likely to rest on how many points they can grind out at home. This opening-day clash with another dogged side in Hull could see both teams cancel each other out, and the best bet could be backing a goalless draw.

RECOMMENDATION: No goalscorer

KEY STAT: Leicester lost just two home league games last season

EXPERT VERDICT: With Chelsea and Arsenal to play in their following two games Leicester will be particuarly keen to get points on the board against Everton. The Foxes were the class act in the Championship last season and can hold a side that posted the highest number of away draws (six) last season.

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: JET AIRWAY (12th)

Spot Play: AMIGO DE GRANDE (1st)

Race 1

(3) AMIGO DE GRANDE returns after a layoff and may offer a fair price. He qualified strong, drops in class and adds lasix to his program. (10) DOUBLEDOWN GASS has terrific gate-speed to overcome post 10. He's been a top threat in each of his eight starts this season. (4) FORK draws well in this field and has hit the board in two of his last three.

Race 2

(2) HAPPY BECKY looks like the filly to beat after remaining undefeated in four starts this season. (4) BEDROOMCONFESSIONS comes from the Alagna barn, has started off her career in top form and was an open length winner two back. (6) SHAKAI HANOVER has the speed, comes from the Jamieson barn and may offer a price.

Race 3

(6) CASHAWAY has won two straight, gets Tetrick aboard and looks like the filly to beat in this division. (7) JK SHESALADY is a perfect three-for-three this season and comes from top connections. (3) WICKED LITTLE MINX has the speed and will look for a rebound effort. Jamieson will be aboard and this filly has some upside.

Race 4

(8) MAJOR HOTTIE was a convincing winner last week in sub-1:50 fashion. He has been at this best in recent weeks and is capable of the class jump. (3) ALEXIE MATTOSIE draws inside, was a winner two back and gets Jamieson in the bike. (2) ODYSSEUS BLUECHIP draws inside, comes from the Johnson barn and has all kinds of back class to offer. He's been a top threat in this class for a few weeks.

Race 5

(3) IDEAL NUGGETS draws inside and is due for her first career win. This is a wide-open contest and she may offer a fair price. (5) A PLUS is a perfect one-for-one to begin her career and moves up in class from the Excel Series. She's capable of another great effort. (2) SOLAR SISTER comes from local connections and has hit the board in three of her last four.

Race 6

(3) THE WAYFARING MAN appears ready for his toughest test. I'll back him based on his recent lines, inside post and versatility. (4) ASAP HANOVER was good in last week's contest, but not great. I'll play him in the exactor and expect a solid effort. (7) LYONS LEVI LEWIS comes from the Burke barn, is versatile and gets Gingras in the bike.

Race 7

(10) SHAMBALLA will face his toughest test in recent starts. I'll back him from post 10 as he's been racing spectacular and is able to overcome the outside. (9) DAPPER DUDE drops out of the Preferred level and comes from the McIntosh barn. (8) NICKLE BAG also drops out of the Preferred level, was timed in 1:49 3/5 and is in a much suitable class.

Race 8

(5) CAPTAINTREACHEROUS gets top billing based on his class relief and good post. He'll likely be the favourite. (6) SUNSHINE BEACH was a dominant winner last week in this class and will need to be at his best. (2) ELLIS PARK was too far back last week and should be more effective from a post two start.

Race 9

(1) AMORA BEACH gets Tetrick aboard this week and that's an angle I'm using. He's blessed with the rail and capable of dropping more time. (8) WESTERN PIONEER has been racing very consistent this season, shows a lot of versatility and comes from top connections. (3) TRACEUR HANOVER draws inside and hasn't missed the board in three starts. He has the speed and faces a tougher test this week.

Race 10

(4) MISTER HERBIE draws well, comes from the Gillis barn and faces major class relief as he returns home. (1) DAYLON MAGICIAN was terrific in the debut for Moiseyev last week as they won this contest. He'll begin from the rail and likely will be put into play early. (2) CHARMED LIFE raced very well last week as the favourite, but got away too far back. I can't see that happening this week.

Race 11

(8) ARTSPEAK certainly looks like the horse to defeat in here after going three-for-three and recently winning in 1:50 4/5. (7) LYONS AGAIN comes from the Burke barn and continues to offer quick speed. He has some upside with Gingras aboard. (3) PIERCE HANOVER draws inside and hasn't missed the board in each of his last three, including two wins. He's very likeable for the triactor with an inside post.

Race 12

(7) JET AIRWAY appears to be the horse to defeat in this class after his pair of recent dominating scores. (1) MELMERBY BEACH has the speed, gets the rail and is fresh off a win. (6) CARACCI HANOVER returns to this circuit and has been pacing speedy miles south of the border. He has the speed, but may need a trip and should offer a price.

Race 13

(1) GRIN FOR MONEY hasn't raced since July 26, which is a concern, but drops in class and is very likeable in this field with the rail. (7) HOPIESDRAGNINTHEDO comes from the Auciello barn and drops in class. He's very versatile and may offer a price. (5) ROETHBLISSBERGER gets Jamieson aboard and has the speed. He tends to be inconsistent, but if the price is right, he's worth a look.

Race 10 - $20,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (31 - 55 / $129.00): L A CAMCHARGER (2nd)

Spot Play: CASEYS LIL HARRY (5th)

Race 1

In an extremely tough race to gauge (2) IM A DAN FOOL will offer a fair price and has been better than his lines show in his last three. (4) I'M REAL GOOD is tough to leave the connections of the ticket as of late. (5) HOLY MCMOSES could be a major player with some early action up front.

Race 2

(6) L A CAMCHARGER has been ultra impressive in the new barn. (4) SVAYA KNOWS three-year-old faces older but has also turned it around for new connections. (8) TOLEDO BEND GATOR is far better suited at the big track and will offer a big price.

Race 3

(4) MASTER JEEVES set a lifetime mark last out for red hot connections. (5) RUSSELL L gelding never got into the race last start but has shown good closing ability with a trip. (1) LD'S DASH gets the rail back down at the bottom level; versatile.

Race 4

(3) HOLDINGALLTHECARDS appears to be rounding back into form after a slow start to the year. (2) BEST MAN HANOVER pacer is probably the horse to beat with any one of his previous efforts off the layoff. (1) OUR DRAGON KING has some question marks off the scratch, however his last race was exceptional; threat.

Race 5

(1) CASEY'S LIL' HARRY veteran pacer owns only one victory on the year but faces a much softer bunch. (2) NO FEAR NO DOUBT needs some racing luck but owns a big burst of speed when timed right. (4) DODGER has gone some big efforts with little to show for it; threat.

Race 6

(7) MAJOR MONET has good gate speed and a lot of back class in a wide open race. (6) RHOMBUS has been consistently hitting the board but has had trouble slamming the door late all year long; command a price. (4) ALWAYS THE SUN faces older but has been pacing some really good miles.

Race 7

(2) FOX VALLEY TOUCHE looks to be in line for a good trip up close to the pace. (7) PARTY HANGOVER comes into the race on a big roll; fires early. (1) STATE STREET LIZ pacing mare has really stepped her game up recently and gets the best post.

Race 8

In a field with few contenders (5) DUNE IN RED gets a big step down in completion and should still offer a fair price. (3) DALLAS JONES was razor sharp last out against a quality bunch. (2) THE BRUZILIAN BLUR popped at a price down in class but would need much more; use underneath.

Race 9

(11) AL'S HAMMERED sensational stretch runner actually benefits from the second tier which should put him in a perfect striking spot turning for home. (7) A COOL CARD has a really good record at the track and could have an outside shot to score an upset with some racing luck. (1) BIG BRAD pacer owns a big burst of speed and looks to be in line for a ground-saving trip.

Race 10

(8) PRAIRIE THUNDER former four-claimer has been pacing up a storm recently and just needs honest fractions up front for a chance late. (4) COTTON EYED JOE faces older but will offer good value and is capable of a big effort any week. (2) SOME HEART THROB impeccably bred pacer makes his third start back off a layoff and was really good last start.

Race 11

(9) LOVE YOU ALWAYS owns a big class edge on most of the field; fires early. (6) IDEAL HELEN well bred filly is 0 for the year but has been facing some stiff competition out east. (5) WINSPIRATIONAL has been knocking on the door but needs a lot of racing luck to hit the top spot.

Race 12

(2) ALEQUASH HOTSPUR takes a significant drop in class for proven connections in this scenario. (5) MAJOR MALE seems to be hit or miss but can jump up with a big effort from time to time. (8) SPECIAL JOE veteran pacer has blazing gate speed and just needs a smooth trip for a piece.

Race 13

(6) DAVE'S BID gelding raced well at Springfield and needed the start; threat. (7) PUT TO THE TEST four-year-old makes his first start for new connections and has been racing gamely at this level. (1) THUNDER RISES gets the best post and should save some ground before shaking loose late but is probably best used underneath.

Yonkers: Saturday 8/16 Analysis
By Matt Rose
DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 246 - 708 / $1266.50 BEST BETS: 43 - 58 / $136.90

Best Bet: SPEED AGAIN (4th)

Spot Play: WHOGOESFIRST (3rd)

Race 1

(4) LETTUCEROCKU A had no chance last week from post seven; his prior two efforts from posts such as this he showed early speed. (3) EAGLE ALL ran pretty well last out and figures prominently here. (7) YO CHEYENNE ROCKY steps back up and lands outside off a second place finish to a sharp rival; he should be a big price and he can spice up the bottom of the ticket.

Race 2

(6) MONTANA PABLO A took plenty of money but didn't fully fire last out versus two rivals that would probably be favored here; capable of tripping out at a better price tonight. (2) SAMANDAR dropped and popped last week; he's got back class. (4) LISTOWEL fits with these but doesn't win all that often.

Race 3

(2) WHOGOESFIRST has missed a couple of weeks off a scratch-sick line which is a bit of a concern but he's got class and could be best from this spot. (5) KEEP GOING returns locally and he's won here in the past. (4) HI HO STEVERINO crumbled on the front end last week versus better but he's a threat here.

Race 4

(6) SPEED AGAIN has been awesome since joining the Burke barn and he should be able to take another. (1) BJ'S GUY returns locally at a competitive level and the gelding knows how to win. (5) ASLAN ships in for live connections but it appears he'll be coming from off the pace which is always tough.

Race 5

(3) SON OF FERGIE A double-jumps in class off two solid scores for Team Vallee and we don't know how good he can be; import is worth following. (5) RU READY TO ROCK just missed last week in a good try. (1) IDEAL CHAMP has speed and the best draw but I can envision him getting run over late.

Race 6

(4) MACH IT SO has put in some big efforts out of town versus good stock and this looks like the perfect spot for the Fraley trainee to get it done. (2) THE REAL ONE was aggressively handled last week and was outfinished late after a rugged try; worth considering from this inside post. (7) PANCETTA promises to be motoring in the late stages.

Race 7

(6) FAMEOUS WESTERN may need some help from this spot but he's got a big closing kick. (1) HPYNOTIST is back up the ladder again and the veteran is feeling good now. (4) K SLATER could linger around for a share.

Race 8

(2) BET THE MOON dug in to beat lesser last out and he may get away cheaply on the front end again. (5) IDEAL MATTERS ships in razor-sharp from Pocono for razor-sharp connections. (4) RUSSLEY RASCAL N bumps up off two easy wins but he loses Brennan tonight; consider underneath.

Race 9

(1) SMOOTH CRIMINAL gets the needed post relief he needs to get back on track. (2) DIGITAL Z TAM was outfinished in last after grinding uncovered; he can show more with a smoother trip. (5) URGENT ACTION has plenty of back class and he ships in off a brutal try at The Meadowlands.

Race 10

(3) TALKING BLUES had no chance of reaching last week after being a solid front-end winner the week prior; big threat from this improved post. (4) STOLEN CAR was going well in the late stages last out and the veteran appears on the cusp of a victory. (2) DREAMSLAND ART could be a threat from this inside spot.

Race 11

(1) FRIDAY AT FIVE didn't fire as my pick last week when he was chasing a soft pace; Sears can trip out with this gelding tonight. (2) GLASS PRINCE took too much money and failed to deliver as the favorite in last; he's an automatic contender when drawn inside. (4) SAFE HARBOR drops from the Open ranks into a much more realistic spot.

Race 12

(1) SANTANNA ONE saved ground and rallied for second last week in a record-tying mile by the winner; he's a logical candidate to advance to the next step. (3) VERDAD returns with some class relief for connections that are impossible to ignore. (2) THAT MAN OF MINE returns locally off a sucessful stint up at Saratoga.

At the Gate - Saturday
By Mike Dempsey

We had another productive day on Friday with four winners on top, the winners paying $5.30, $12.40, $3.80 and $17.20.

I missed out on personally hitting the Pick 5, and I only had one top pick in the sequence. My second choice won a race, my third choices won two others and my fourth choice won one race. I did not go that deep and got knocked out in the fourth race.

The Pick 5 for Saturday certainly looks hittable and I have five Live Longshots in the sequence. If we can get a couple of them home first we should see a generous payoff.

In addition to Saratoga, my Best Plays Report for Saturday includes the stakes action from Arlington Park. It is the International Festival of Racing and features a pair of Breeders’ Cup Challenge races.

The 11-race card at Saratoga features a pair of graded stakes. The Grade 2 Knob Creek Lake Placid will be run as the third race on the card because it drew just six, with five slated to go as My Miss Sophia was entered for main track only.

The feature is the Grade 1 $600,000 Alabama for three-year-old fillies that drew a field of nine led by CCA Oaks winner Stopchargingmaria for the Todd Pletcher barn.

The filly handled Unbridled Forever easily by five lengths last out, but I am thinking we could see a mild upset here with the additional ground.

Here is today’s opening race from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:

SAR Race 1 Clm $50,000N2L (1:00 ET)
6 Goodnewsisnonews 7-2
2 Harpoon 9-5
1 Cost Affective / 1a Dyker Beach 3-1
3 Vona 10-1

Analysis: Goodnewsisnonews stalked the early pace and came with a good late rally to come up just a nose short of beating $25,000 non-winners of two last out. The colt was claimed out of the race by the Asmussen barn that is 21% winners first off the claim. The colt earned a career top speed fig last out and while he steps up to the $50,000 tag these are still non-winners of two.

Harpoon takes the hood off and gets some needed class relief here after coming up short in the Quick Call last out on turf. The colt is back on dirt here and is offered up for a tag for the first time here by the Pletcher barn. After breaking his maiden at Gulfstream Park going a one-turn mile he missed winning the Sam F. Davis (G3) by just a nose, but has not been abler to run back to that effort. The switch back to dirt should suit and he fits here but his price is going to be on the light side. The Pletcher barn is 26% winners moving runners from turf to dirt.

WIN: #6 to win at 5-2 or better.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:

SAR Race 10 The Alabama G1 (6:20 ET)
1 Unbridled Forever 4-1
8 Stopchargingmaria 2-1
9 Size 5-1
5 Got Lucky 5-1

Analysis: Unbridled Forever stalked the early pace and was no match for Stopchargingmaria in the CCA Oaks (G1) last out, checking in five lengths behind the winner. The filly has a shot of turning the tables here as the added distance here may come into play. She has more of a long-winded pedigree, by Unbridled's Song out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare. She has lost four in a row but ran into Sweet Reason two back in a third in the Acorn (G1), that filly returning to win the Test (G1) and three and four back she ran into division leader Untapable. She is going to offer us a bit more value for the top spot.

Stopchargingmaria got the job done as our top pick in the CCA Oaks and she has done some of her best running over the Spa main track, running a good second in the Spinaway here last summer as well. She did drift out a bit in the final furlong and I am not convinced she can handle going 1 1/4 miles. The 2-1 morning line would be fair enough but have a hunch her price is going to be lighter.

Size has won three of her four career starts, last out taking the Iowa Oaks (G3) in her graded stakes debut. She beat the much overrated Ria Antonia by 1 1/4 lengths in the effort. She earned a solid speed fig in her win and has worked smartly since her last start. With just four starts under her belt she appears to have more upside than most of these and may end up getting overlooked in the betting.

Wagering
WIN: #1 to win at 3-1 or better.
EX: 1,8 / 15,8,9
TRI: 1,8 / 1,5,8,9 / 1,5,6,8,9

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Arlington Park:

AP Race 9 The Beverly D. G1 (4:54 CT)
9 Alterite 4-1
4 Emollient 5-1
5 Stephanie's Kitten 7-2
1 Just the Judge 6-1

Analysis: Alterite prompted the early pace and ran out of gas in the stretch in a eighth place finish in the Diana (G1) last out, finishing behind a couple of these she faces again today as five of these exit that Grade 1 fixture at the Spa. The Chad Brown trainee was in a tough spot making her first start off an 8 1/2 month layoff. She ran well in her first three starts last fall after crossing the pond, including winning the Garden City (G1) in her U.S. debut. She then was beaten just a neck in the QEII Cup (G1) at Keeneland and was third in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1), beaten just a length. She should be tighter here for a trainer that is 23% winners with runners making their second start off a +180 day layoff. She can handle the extra ground and we likely are going to get a fair price in this wide-open field.

Emollient also ran in the Diana and she was ninth, beaten 5 1/4 lengths at 5-1. The filly was rank in the early going and had to be taken up early and then again heading into the first turn. She was still a bit rank fighting the rider until the far turn and did not have enough punch left late. Two back she was beaten just a nose in the Gamely (G1) at Santa Anita and she is a Grade 1 winner on poly and turf. She is better than she showed last out and may offer decent value here.

Stephanie's Kitten raced near the back of the pack after jostling a bit with a foe, came with a four wide run into the stretch and finished strongly to come up just a neck short of winning the Diana. She needs to have things go right for her and see some pace in front of her. It looks as if she will get an honest pace to run at and Dettori sticks for another go. She makes her third start of her current form cycle and will be running late.

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

# 7 SUZETT'S MEMORY 3/1

# 4 GRACIE COME HOME 5/2

# 1 SARABI CRYPTO 7/2

I think SUZETT'S MEMORY is a very strong choice. GRACIE COME HOME - Evans has a very solid win percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. I like the jock on this filly - decent chance to win the race.

The Walker Group Picks

# 4 FIRSTONTOAST 8/1

# 12 TRACK SHAKER 3/1

# 5 HEZA SWINGIN CARTEL 9/2

FIRSTONTOAST looks solid to best this group and the potential return justifies the unsafe nature of the long odds. Boasts solid speed figures on average overall when put alongside the rest of this field. This gelding has a strong win percent in short races. Has been running solidly lately and will probably be up on the front end early on. HEZA SWINGIN CARTEL - If you look closely, this one has some longshot possibilities. Must be given a chance here on the basis of the figs in the speed section alone.

#7 SIDE GLANCE (GB) (ML=8/1)
#3 MAGICIAN (IRE) (ML=7/5)
#6 REAL SOLUTION (ML=5/2)

SIDE GLANCE (GB) - Lone speed horses can be tough to run down. Here's a lone front-runner facing sluggish sorts today. Running on the turf today, you should review a horse's class. This one has the top number in the bunch. I have to like this gelding's chances to win at the shorter distance. MAGICIAN (IRE) - Sub-par outing in the last race at ASC was due to the off-going (he ended up sixth). Should do better right here in this race under normal track conditions. A little change in scenery has got to do this thoroughbred well. Reading the recent past performance lines, it seems like he likes to visit the winner's circle on different tracks. This horse earns a lot of dough per race around the track. At the top in this affair. Going on Lasix for the first time. While a well known handicapping angle, it's still quite useful when separating your contenders. Lower weight carried of -7. In my opinion, a movement of 5 is important, so this colt falls into this category. REAL SOLUTION - Equibase speed figures on the turf point to this racer as a legit contender. Has the best in the field for this distance-surface. Brown is great in grass routes. This horse should have no allowances if he doesn't win. Running 1 1/4 miles on the turf, you've have to look at horse's turf figures. This one has the tops in the bunch. This one has increased his speed figs in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is worth taking a look at. A repeat of that last performance on June 7th where he earned a rating of 120 looks high enough to score in this event. This entrant has multiple victories at the same distance we're running today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 SMOKING SUN (ML=9/2), #5 UP WITH THE BIRDS (ML=6/1),

SMOKING SUN - Don't believe this runner will do much running today. That last rating was mediocre when compared with today's class figure. UP WITH THE BIRDS - This rallier will probably be closing much too late to make an impact in this race. Could be tough for this horse to beat this bunch off of that last speed fig. Not likely to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put him on the vulnerable competitors list.

#4 BLINGS EXPRESS (ML=7/2)
#6 THE LOUISIANA KID (ML=8/1)
#8 BLIMEY (ML=4/1)

BLINGS EXPRESS - Last time this gelding ran today's distance he got a fig that would probably win today's event. A gelding like this one, almost always on the board, usually makes an excellent trifecta key horse. This gelding is in nice form. Ran third on July 25th. THE LOUISIANA KID - I like to play this handicapping angle, a racer coming back off a strong effort within the last 30 days. Santiago and Camejo perform well when they combine forces. Not easy to best a win pct of 33. I think that a sprinter coming off a layoff will usually run his best in the 3rd or 4th start back. BLIMEY - A thoroughbred coming back this promptly after a good effort is a good sign. This gelding is rounding his way back into shape. Should perform well today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 COULDASHUDDAWOODA (ML=4/1), #7 IFIMLYINIMDYIN (ML=5/1), #10 TUMMEL (ML=6/1),

COULDASHUDDAWOODA - Today's race is 6 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a short distance event in the last two months. Not the best of signals. IFIMLYINIMDYIN - This questionable contender will probably bounce off of the last strong outing. TUMMEL - Hard to put your cash on this speed merchant. Too much speed in the affair.

Putting our cash on #4 BLINGS EXPRESS to win. Have to have odds of at least 3/1 or better though

RACE #10 - SARATOGA RACE COURSE - 5:48 PM EASTERN POST

The Alabama Stakes

10.0 FURLONGS DIRT THREE YEAR OLD FILLIES GRADE I STAKES $600,000.00 PURSE

#8 STOPCHARGINGMARIA
#1 UNBRIDLED FOREVER
#9 SIZE
#6 FORTUNE PEARL

For you folks who enjoy a little Thoroughbred Racing History to accompany your handicapping efforts on this Saturday here at "The Spa" ... this prestigious stakes race for 3-year-old fillies is one of the oldest races for females in the United States, with its first edition taking place in 1872 in a race won by August Belmont's Woodbine. The race was not precisely named in honor of the great state of Alabama; rather, it was named after William Cottrill of Mobile, Ala., who was too modest to have a race named for him personally and requested it be named after his home state. Cottrill, who came to the United States from England during the 1840's, was an owner and breeder whose Ascension finished 10th in the inaugural Kentucky Derby in 1875 and whose Buchanan won the "Run for the Roses" in 1884. Here in the 134th running of "The 'Bama" ... #8 STOPCHARGINGMARIA comes off back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in her last two outings, coming from behind to win The Black Eyed Susan Stakes in May at Pimlico, and more recently, winning 26 days ago here at Saratoga as she annexed The Coaching Club American Oaks by an impressive 5 lengths. Jockey John Velasquez and Trainer Todd Pletcher send her to the post for the "Saturday Feature" ... they've hit the board with 54% of nearly 250 entries saddled as a team to date. The 4-1 shot, #1 UNBRIDLED FOREVER, has hit the board in five straight starts, with four of those "board hit efforts," including a win in her 5th race back, also qualifying as "POWER RUNS."
