KEY STAT: Brazil have won nine and drawn one of their last ten matches against Chile

EXPERT VERDICT: This all-South American second-round tie has the potential to be a belter and backing both teams to score looks best. Brazil have a brilliant record against Chile but the hosts have conceded in two of their three matches at the finals with the defence looking shaky.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Colombia are undefeated in their last ten matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Colombia made short work of some average opposition in Group C and should ease past an ordinary Uruguay side. It would have been easy for Colombia to take their foot off the pedal against Japan but they produced another excellent performance and should be too slick for Uruguay, who are too reliant on their forward players.

RECOMMENDATION: Colombia

Brazil v Chile

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Belo Horizonte
  • Date: Saturday, 28 June
  • Kick-off: 17:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Brazil defender David Luiz is nursing a slight back problem suffered in training but he is expected to be fit.
Fernandinho is pushing for a starting role in midfield, although Luiz Felipe Scolari said earlier in the week that he has "blind faith" in Paulinho.
Chile defender Gary Medel has an ankle injury but, if fit, will keep his place in a full-strength side.
Key midfielder Arturo Vidal will return after being rested for the group stage defeat against the Dutch.
Vidal, Charles Aranguiz, Francisco Silva and Eugenio Mena are all one booking from a ban, along with Brazil quartet Thiago Silva, Ramires, Neymar and Luiz Gustavo.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]Brazil have never lost at home to Chile in 26 meetings spanning 95 years, but they are all too aware of how difficult it will be to extend that record.
Chile's aggressive pressing and fluid attacking style means that, at their best, they are irresistible to watch and near-impossible to contain. Just ask dethroned world champions Spain.
Chile lost 3-0 to Brazil at the same stage four years ago to the day of this game - their third World Cup defeat out of three meetings between the nations - but Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is not fooled.
"Statistics mean nothing," he said. "I believe since coach (Jorge) Sampaoli arrived, the Chile team have a new dynamism, a much better performance. The players have adapted to the scheme he thinks best and they adapted perfectly."
Scolari has openly admitted he would have preferred not to face Chile, particularly with his side labouring for much of the group stage. The five-time champions are almost obligated to win a sixth title, such is the expectation of them among Brazil's public, and Scolari admitted: "I try to transmit my confidence. But no one can be at ease.

"It is normal for us to feel that we have some problem, something that makes us anxious especially now in the knockout stage where we cannot lose. Not because it is in Brazil but because it is a World Cup. You only get the chance to get to the final if you win."
Chile have not reached the quarter-finals since they hosted the tournament in 1962. However, the current side are not lacking in belief.
Star player Alexis Sanchez said: "We have respect for them, but I think we are going to beat them. We came to this World Cup to make history. We beat the world champions, and although we had a slip-up against Holland, we are going out to try and win the Cup."
Chile certainly have the host nation worried. Coach Sampaoli suspended training on Thursday when a helicopter from Brazilian television station O Globo hovered over the pitch as he was working on tactics. The helicopter eventually took flight but Chile will be vying to ground Brazil on Saturday.
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • Brazil are unbeaten in their last 12 games (W10, D2) against Chile since a 3-0 away defeat in a World Cup qualifier in August 2000.
  • Brazil have won all three World Cup meetings: 4-2 in 1962, 4-1 in 1998 and 3-0 in 2010 exactly four years ago to the day of Saturday's match.
  • Chile have only beaten Brazil seven times in 68 attempts, drawing 13 and losing 48. Four of those Chile wins came in competitive matches.
  • The nations last met on 20 November 2013 in a friendly in Toronto, when Brazil beat Chile 2-1. Hulk and Robinho scored either side of an Eduardo Vargas equaliser for Chile.
Brazil

  • Brazil have won their last five second-round matches at the World Cup since a 1-0 defeat by Argentina in 1990.
  • Luiz Felipe Scolari's side have won 11 of their last 12 matches, the exception being a goalless draw with Mexico in the group stage.
  • Their only defeat in the last 24 games came against Switzerland last August (W18, D5, L1).
  • Brazil are now unbeaten in 40 successive home matches, with their last defeat coming against Paraguay in August 2002.
  • Their last competitive defeat at home was 3-1 to Peru in the 1975 Copa America semi-final.
  • Neymar has scored 35 goals in 52 appearances for Brazil, including 26 goals in his last 31 caps. He is now sixth on Brazil's all-time top scorer list, trailing only Bebeto (39), Zico (48), Romario (55), Ronaldo (62) and Pele (77).
  • According to Prozone statistics, Fred was only in possession of the ball for seven seconds during the victory over Cameroon last time out, despite completing the 90 minutes.
Chile

  • Chile have lost each of their previous second-round fixtures at the World Cup, both against Brazil (0-3 in 2010 and 1-4 in 1998).
  • They have also been defeated in their previous four World Cup matches against fellow South American sides, conceding at least three goals every match (14 goals in total).
  • Their only victory in a World Cup knockout game (excluding the 1962 third-place play-off), was against Soviet Union in the quarter-finals of that tournament.
  • Eduardo Vargas has scored in each of his last two appearances for Chile against Brazil, including a goal in Belo Horizonte in April 2013.

Colombia v Uruguay

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Estadio do Maracana, Rio De Janeiro
  • Date: Saturday, 28 June
  • Kick-off: 2100 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Colombia made eight changes for their final group match and will recall key players such as James Rodriguez to the starting line-up.
Teofilo Gutierrez is set to lead the line despite Jackson Martinez scoring twice against Japan, while Carlos Bacca has recovered from a thigh problem.
Uruguay may use Edinson Cavani as a lone striker, though Diego Forlan will hope to replace the banned Luis Suarez.
Captain Diego Lugano could again miss out with a knee injury.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]While the suspension of Luis Suarez deprives Uruguay of their best player and record scorer, La Celeste can draw hope from the success of last-16 opponents Colombia.
Los Cafeteros lost star striker Radamel Falcao to injury before the tournament began but have been anything but toothless in attack.
Conventional wisdom dictated that the absence of Falcao, who scored nine of their 27 goals in qualifying, would leave Colombia lacking a ruthless touch in front of goal.
Instead they scored nine goals in three group matches, with their shot conversion rate (31%) the best of any team in the first phase of the tournament.

Falcao's injury prompted coach Jose Pekerman to switch from a 4-4-2 formation to 4-2-3-1. So far that system has given more creative license to outstanding attacking midfielders James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado, who have five goals between them in Brazil.
The Colombians scored more goals than the three other teams in Group C combined, but they face a real step-up in class against the streetwise and experienced Uruguayans.
The only previous World Cup match between the sides was won by Uruguay in 1962, when the victors were coached by Juan Carlos Corazzo - the grandfather of current striker Diego Forlan.
Uruguay have also enjoyed the better of recent encounters, winning six of the last eight meetings. That includes Colombia's most recent defeat, a 2-0 loss in a qualifier in Montevideo on 10 September 2013.
On that occasion Edinson Cavani headed the decisive goal. The Paris St-Germain striker often plays second fiddle to Suarez for Uruguay, but he will be a key man on Saturday.

The Uruguayans may draw inspiration from playing this game in Rio, scene of the greatest win in their history.
Alcides Ghiggia's winner against Brazil in the final game of the 1950 tournament famously silenced the Maracana.
Saturday's atmosphere may not be quite so partisan, yet the travelling Uruguayan fans are likely to be greatly outnumbered by their Colombian counterparts and most neutrals can be expected to side with Pekerman's adventurous team.
That will only serve to inspire the Uruguayans. Victory for La Celeste would not match the shock value of the "Maracanazo", but would be almost as satisfying for a team convinced they have been unfairly treated by Fifa.
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • Colombia's first World Cup match was a 2-1 defeat by Uruguay in Chile in 1962.
  • That is the only previous occasion the sides have met at a World Cup, and is also Colombia's only previous meeting with South American opposition.
  • In the last 10 years, Uruguay have won six of their eight games against Colombia (D1, L1).
  • Colombia's only win in that sequence was by 4-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Baranquilla in September 2012. The Uruguayans won the return fixture 2-0 in Montevideo a year later.
Colombia

  • Los Cafeteros are unbeaten in their last 10 games (W6, D4) since losing 2-0 in Uruguay last September.
  • Colombia lost their only only previous World Cup knockout game 2-1 to Cameroon in 1990.
  • They have won as many World Cup matches in Brazil (three) as in their previous 13 tournament games combined.
  • James Rodriguez has scored in his last five appearances for Colombia, including all three World Cup matches.
  • He has scored three goals and assisted two more in 225 minutes in Brazil - which equates to scoring or assisting a goal every 45 minutes.
  • Nine of Colombia's last 11 goals at the World Cup have been scored in the second half of matches.
Uruguay

  • Uruguay have not beaten South American opposition in a knockout World Cup match since victory against Brazil at the Maracana in 1950. That match was the de facto final as it was the last game in the final round, with Uruguay needing a win to clinch the title.
  • They have scored in each of their last nine World Cup games - the last time they failed to find the net was in a 0-0 draw against France on 11 June 2010.
  • La Celeste have lost the last two World Cup games Luis Suarez has missed: 3-2 against Netherlands in 2010 and 3-1 versus Costa Rica in their opening match in Brazil.

Mohawk: Saturday 6/28 Analysis
By Greg Gangle
DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: HIT AND GIGGLE A (11th)

Spot Play: MAGIC LINDY (3rd)

Race 1

(3) LEAFS AND WINGS won at a much higher level on May 17 on this circuit and since then has dropped down into this bottom class. (6) SECRETSOFTHEKNIGHT will debut for new trainer Richard Moreau, which will likely drop his price. (9) THE REV was individually timed in 1:50.1 in his latest outing, which makes him a top contender in this bottom class.

Race 2

(8) SHADOW BRIAND is a top candidate in here after his impressive 1:51.3 career best win last start for driver MacDonell and trainer Darling. (6) STEADY WARRIOR was very impressive last week as he raced off-the-pace and closed from seventh-to-second with a :27 final quarter. He's versatile, gets Jamieson in the bike this week and looks like a main threat in this years Gold Series. (1) FALCON JUSTICE gets the rail in here and has been racing at his best in recent weeks.

Race 3

(7) MAGIC LINDY is a mare I'm hoping for a fair price on as she drops in class and is due for a big effort. (8) KEYSTONE ORION has been racing very well as of late and will need to mind her manners. (4) MIDFIELD MAGIC has some back class to offer and remains at the same level as last week. He begins from the same post, shows a lot of versatility and trotted home very well last week with a :28.3 final frame.

Race 4

(8) MR BIG HEAD has been perfect in all three starts since the claim for trainer Auciello. (3) GENESEE draws inside and has missed the board twice from 15 starts this season. He draws inside, retains Davis, Jr. in the bike and likely will be put into play in the early stages of the mile. (9) RAVE ON comes out of the Johnson barn, which can't be overlooked and offered a nice price last week to finish second.

Race 5

(5) FRIEND OR FOE has been racing very consistently as of late and was a dominant winner last week in this class. (1) CHIVAREE HANOVER is once again a top candidate after her convincing win last week for Team McNair in 1:54.4, a new career best. (6) NOBLE FLIGHT has hit the board in four of his last five starts this season and enjoys racing from behind.

Race 6

(8) JET AIRWAY was a convincing winner in his latest with a 1:50 career best by over two lengths. (7) SILVERHILL SHADOW was a going-away winner in his latest in the opening round of the Summertime Pacing Series. (6) P L HOOFHEARTED entered the Coleman barn following his May 8 winning effort and has been racing very well in all seven starts this season

Race 7

(5) HOPIESDRAGNINTHEDO continues to pace quick miles and found the winner's circle last week. He now faces veteran horses on this circuit, but appears to be up for the task and has been pacing in the 1:50-range in three of his last five starts. (3) VIPER SELECT entered the Demers barn last week and despite finishing sixth, he was timed in 1:50. (2) BLENDED WHISKEY enters the Cirasuola barn following the claim on May 24 and hasn't raced since then, which is a concern. This veteran pacer now enters the condition ranks, draws inside and has a good record this season.

Race 8

(4) PLAY IT AGAIN SAM draws well once again this week and once again will offer a low price. (1) VICTOR BAYAMA is worth a look if the price is right. (3) HIGH FLIER has won two straight and three of his last four for trainer Taff. He's come a long way in a short period of time from racing at Flamboro in the maiden class to capturing a division of the Grassroots and advancing to this class.

Race 9

(6) STATE TREASURER has won four of six starts this season while competing against the top pacers in Canada along with North America as of late. (3) ELLIS PARK found the wire first last week at a lower level and continues to show the quick speed needed for this class. (4) EVENIN OF PLEASURE posted the 81-1 upset in his latest in the Mohawk Gold Cup against some of the sport's top free-for-all pacers.

Race 10

(5) MACHAL JORDAN was racing as high as the Preferred level just four starts back and since then has dropped significantly in class. (2) UPFRONT HOOSIERBOY was the favourite last week in this class and had to settle for second, beaten three-quarters of a length for the win. (6) ROETHBLISSBERGER was timed in 1:49.4 in his latest at a higher class, which makes him a good option for the triactor.

Race 11

(9) HIT AND GIGGLE A won this contest last week in a sizzling 1:49.2 in just his second start in the Northern Hemisphere. (1) THEPANINSULAHOTEL gets the rail once again and finished second last week behind HIT AND GIGGLE A. (2) CHAMPAGNE PHIL generally enjoys being put in the race early, but MacDonald elected to give him a trip last week and it resulted in a third-place finish.

Race 12

(4) LUCAN HANOVER went a tough trip in his latest to earn the front and got away too far back two starts ago. Perhaps this is the race for him to get the monkey off his back and enjoy his first win of the season. (8) WARRAWEE NEEDY hasn't been on form as of yet this season after competing in the Grand Circuit in his last five starts while racing against the sport’s top free-for-all pacers. (5) PISTON BROKE enjoys racing from behind and has a terrific final quarter in him.

Pocono: Saturday 6/28 Analysis
By Derick Giwner
DRF HARNESSt

Best Bet: FATHER PATRICK (12th)

Spot Play: JENERAL PATTON (15th)

Race 1

(1) DAMON BLUE CHIP had no shot last time from post eight and should take advantage of the inside draw. (3) QUINCY won at this level two starts back and has hit the board in all eight starts here this year. (5) SOMETHINGINTHEWIND drops in for a tag. The last two times that happened he won.

Race 2

(2) MONEY ON MY MIND returned from a brief freshening in top form for trainer Ron Burke. (4) WIND OF THE NORTH drops a notch to a level at which he is very comfortable. (1) SKYLINE ROAD is off a solid second-place finish and already has three wins at Pocono this year.

Race 3

(5) ROCKIN AMADEUS gets some massive class relief this week and has no excuses. (8) ATTA BOY DAN was used hard last time at Yonkers, but can go with these given a decent trip. (1) CHEYENNE REIDER moves into the conditioned ranks off a very sharp score in his first start for owner/trainer Christie Collins.

Race 4

(5) ROCKIN THE HOUSE has been involved in some very fast miles of late and actually won one of them two starts back. Burke-trained gelding should get the top and has won 9 of 23 starts at Pocono since 2012. (4) E STREET PLAN ships in from Yonkers with form for a barn that wins a lot of races here. (2) EIGHTEEN drops down and has speed.

Race 5

(9) ALLSTAR RATING was rounding into form before going a brutal first-over mile in last week’s elimination. Statistically she is the fastest filly in the race and certainly has enough early zip to overcome the outside draw. (3) SOMEISLANDSOMWHERE only needs to stay closer to the action to have a big chance. (2) ATSALLRITE HANOVER stayed on stride in her elimination, which is a step in the right direction. This filly has some talent. (4) TYRA will be part of the early pace and could grab a big share.

Race 6

(1) MATTAMERICAN went a brutal trip in his Hempt elimination and only lost by six lengths. This son of Allamerican Native seems to be maturing and could be primed for a huge mile. (8) DOO WOP HANOVER showed big early speed in his elimination but faded through the stretch. If he gets an easier lead, watch out. (3) SOMESTARSOMEWHERE has a better post this week and figures to make some noise sooner or later.

Race 7 – USTA Invitational

This is the second tier of the older division and almost any of them are capable of stepping up with a big mile. (4) BEACH MEMORIES may be the longest price on the morning line at 20-1, but he has a legitimate chance to make some noise in this race. He has the early speed needed to get into play and ensure a good trip. (8) DANCIN YANKEE is the fastest horse of 2014 with a 1:47 2/5 clocking. But he is now in a new barn with Josh Green serving a suspension. I have mixed feelings. (2) CLEAR VISION is a gutsy old gelding that always gives his all. When on his game he can even grind first-over and win. (6) THINKING OUT LOUD came up empty in the Gold Cup but is better than that. (5) SUNFIRE BLUE CHIP seems to me making some subtle strides towards peak form.

Race 8 – Sun Invitational

(3) MARKET SHARE trotted a 54 4/5 final half last time despite coming back from some sickness. I’m not sure if he is as fast as Sebastian K right now, but I know he’ll get some decent fractions to close into this week. (7) SEBASTIAN K has been awesome since arriving stateside. That said, do you want 2-5 on a horse from an outside post when you know the horse to his inside will be leaving hard? (6) MODERN FAMILY is fast off the gate and can go a long way. He’ll make life more difficult on the favorite.

Race 9 – James M. Lynch Memorial Final

(2) SAYITALL BB paced a 54 3/5 middle half while trying to gain uncovered in her elimination. Even though she couldn’t make up any ground, she somehow hung around and finished third when it looked like she would be seventh. In a race stacked with outside speed, I’ll take a chance that she is following the favorite (#1) at a price. (4) FANCY DESIRE was placed on the engine and motored around the track in a very sharp mile. She seems to love this track and aggressive handling. (6) CINAMONY went a huge mile in her elimination win and doesn’t seem to mind taking air on the rim. (1) UFFIZI HANOVER has been racing great and is hard to fault, but she seems destined for a first-over trip as the favorite; bad combo.

Race 10 – Max C. Hempt Memorial Final

(4) SOMETIMES SAID has displayed the ability to go with this crowd but can’t seem to work out a clean trip. In a race loaded with potential early speed players, I’m going to hope Saturday is the night he finally sits second-over. (3) MCWICKED is the clear horse to beat after his blowout elimination win. If he brings his best game, I’m not sure he can be defeated. (5) AT PRESS TIME & (8) ALL BETS OFF are an uncoupled team from the Ron Burke barn with high early speed and plenty of form; very dangerous combo.

Race 11 – Ben Franklin Final

(8) CAPTAINTREACHEROUS put in a huge effort in defeat last week. He paced a 1:48 mile that night in only his second start of the year. I have to believe he’ll bring a 1:47 and change effort this Saturday and I’m not sure a bad trip can stop him. I honestly think he is that good. (9) SUNSHINE BEACH has a legitimate chance to upset the applecart. The 4-year-old is proven capable of pacing a sub 1:48 mile and I’d expect driver Brian Sears to be tracking Captaintreacherous the entire mile looking for a good trip. This horse should be feared. (4) SWEET LOU is on a four-race win streak and was awesome in his elimination. For me, this race just doesn’t set up nicely for him. If he leaves, chances are he’ll have to pace the half in 52-plus seconds and find a way to hold off a host of pursuers. If he takes back, I fear he’ll be shuffled with a host of outside horses on the move early. Either way, I can’t take a short price on him in this spot. (1) BETTOR’S EDGE has been razor sharp and was locked in the pocket last time.

Race 12 Earl Beal Jr. Memorial Final

(8) FATHER PATRICK looks to be just on par with this group on paper, but we really haven’t seen the bottom of this guy this year. There is no doubt in my mind that he can easily rip off a 1:51 mile and none of these seems likely to put up that kind of number. (2) NUNCIO is the uncoupled stablemate of Father Patrick. He is undefeated in 2014 and easily won his elimination despite the narrow margin of victory. If any horse has a glimmer of a hope to best Father Patrick, it is this guy, the only horse to ever beat him in his 15-start career. (7) DATSYUK will certainly be forwardly placed and proved game last time. (3) HARPER BLUE CHIP seems to be improving with each start.

Race 13

(6) BJS GUY returns to Pocono off a win and gets some class relief. (1) SCREEN THE CALL went a big mile off the barn change. (3) GD AIRLINER reunites with driver Simon Allard, who won the last time he drove this gelding.

Race 14

(1) MOSEE TERROR was stuck with post nine last week. The inside draw should bring a better effort. (2) VALENTINO gets a free ride despite winning in this class last time. (3) SCOTT ROCKS had a tough trip and still only missed by a few lengths in his last start. (6) A STITCH IN TIME drops down for a winning barn.

Race 15

(4) JENERAL PATTON has easily bested NYSS foes with some huge final quarters. This son of Art Major may have a chance to step up against Open foes in the near future. (7) CLINT WESTWOOD has posted back-to-back big miles for team Burke. (1) MINDSET does his best work in soft spots and some of these may be too tough for him.

Race 16

(7) LUCK BE WITHYOU freefalls in class and should win this race for fun. (1) ARTACHE HANOVER is back at a winning level. (2) NEW KIND should flash speed from the inside.

Calder - Race #1 - Post: 12:55pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,900 Class Rating: 81

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#3 GARABATO (ML=2/1)

GARABATO - It looks like the pace horses may duel each other into the ground. When the real running starts this colt should be finishing strongly. Have to make this colt a serious competitor; he comes off a good contest on Jun 14th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 RING BEARER (ML=9/5), #7 RUSSIAN HUMOR (ML=3/1), #4 KIRKIES DREAM (ML=8/1),

RING BEARER - Don't think this entrant is worth 9/5 in this race. RUSSIAN HUMOR - Difficult to put any money on this colt on the front end. Likes to hit the board though. This colt ********** a speed rating in his last race which likely isn't good enough in today's race. KIRKIES DREAM - 8/1 is too low of a value to take on most any animal that has run poorly in back to back efforts.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 2 SUNNY NOTE 2/1

# 4 MABEEWISE 9/2

# 6 CANDID RESPONSE 9/5

SUNNY NOTE looks like the wager in here. Last time out, this gelding ran against a much tougher crew. Must be in form if the trainer is bringing him back so quickly. Has been running in the most competitive company of the group of horses recently. CANDID RESPONSE - Has very good early pace and will probably fare admirably versus this field. The speed rating of 56 from his latest race looks solid in here.

RACE #8 - SANTA ANITA PARK - 4:45 PM PACIFIC POST
The Santa Anita Gold Cup Stakes
10.0 FURLONGS DIRT GRADE I THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $500,000.00 PURSE

#2 FURY KAPCORI
#1 GAME ON DUDE
#4 IMPERATIVE
#3 CLUBHOUSE RIDE

Well folks .... the "goal" here is to try and beat the 4-5 favorite, #1 GAME ON DUDE who topped the first edition of the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings for 2014, and heads the seven-horse field for the 75th renewal of the Gold Cup at Santa Anita Handicap here at Santa Anita Park. The Gold Cup, which will air on NBCSN from 7-8 p.m. (EDT), is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win and You're In" race that will award the winner an automatic berth to the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) at Santa Anita. Game On Dude, who has earned $6.4 million, will be seeking his third consecutive victory in the 1 1/4-mile, $500,000 race that was run as the Hollywood Gold Cup at the now-shuttered Hollywood Park when he won in 2012 and 2013. The 7-year-old Awesome Again gelding is trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, who tabs Jockey Mike Smith to ride ... this tandem has hit the board with 56% of more than 50 entries saddled as a team to date ... Smith has been in his irons on 10 previous occasions, hitting the board in eight .. winning 6 times. My pick for the upset is #2 FURY KAPCORI, a 9-2 shot, who has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in five straight, and this recent streak of racing consistency also includes a quartet of "POWER RUN WINS!"

#7 WISHING LILLY (ML=6/1)

WISHING LILLY - Filly looks like the lone speed here. She may turn the race into a procession. This horse could be tough in this race, especially since Cora rode last out and now should be better acquainted with this one. Here is an appropriate handicapping angle that I've used many times before. Play a filly (like this one) getting Lasix for the second time. The addition of the 'shades' usually means that a trainer wants a horse to show more speed or to keep her attention focused.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 LEATHER PANTS (ML=8/5), #5 FUZZY DICE (ML=5/2), #1 PERSUASIVE GIRL (ML=4/1),

LEATHER PANTS - This come from behinder looks to have little chance without an early speed duel on the front end. Finished second in her most recent race with a most unsatisfactory speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to prove victorious after that in this field. FUZZY DICE - Should be difficult for this racer to beat this field off of that last rating. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class figure, so put her on the likely underlays list. PERSUASIVE GIRL - This horse ran a run-of-the-mill speed figure in the last race. She shouldn't show signs of improvement and will likely get beat in today's event running that number.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#7 WISHING LILLY is the play if we get odds of 1/1 or better

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 6 MY PARAMOUR 2/1

# 7 HERB 6/1

# 2 MICNAJIC 3/1

I've got to go with MY PARAMOUR. HERB - Looks very strong against this group and will most likely be one of the front-runners. Has respectable Equibase Class Figures relative to this field - worth a look. MICNAJIC - Has to be given a chance based on the formidable speed figure posted in the last affair.

#2 UNTAPABLE
#6 STOPCHARGINGMARIA
#1 HOUSE RULES
#3 PRINCESS VIOLET

For you folks who enjoy a little Thoroughbred Racing Trivia to accompany your handicapping efforts this afternoon ... The Mother Goose is named after Harry Payne Whitney's filly who defeated the colts in the 1924 Futurity. She is one of only 13 fillies to have won the Futurity since it was first run in 1888. Here in the 58th running of "The Goose," #2 UNTAPABLE has hit the board in each of her last four outings, including back-to-back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in her last three starts. #6 STOPCHARGINGMARIA, an 8-1 shot, has scored with a trio of wins in her respective last five "adventures," and goes to the post with the skills of the Jockey/Trainer tandem of Javier Castellano and Todd Pletcher in her corner ... they've "whacked the tote board" with 67% of nearly 300 entries saddled as a team to date.

# 6 VERSADO 4/1

# 1 SHOCK IT TO 'EM 10/1

# 7 BET ON THE LAW 15/1

Feel pretty confident putting some profits down on VERSADO. He's racing in fine form, recording substantial TrackMaster Speed Ratings. An excellent choice. He has really good class ratings, averaging 96. Could be considered for a bet in here. When the trainer Surick puts Gingras up for the drive good things happen. All you need to do is look at the 34 win percent. SHOCK IT TO 'EM - The panel of smart guys happens to know that when you put Pierce and Oakes together good results frequently occur. Deserves a shot given the successful win figure he sports. BET ON THE LAW - Horoscope said take a chance today, this harness racer is as good as any to take a shot with.
