Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: NATIONAL DEBT (3rd)

Spot Play: BUDDY HALLY (5th)

Race 1

(6) GENESEE moves into the Farmer barn, is fresh off a win and remains at the same class. (7) KEEPING OPTOMISTIC has hit the board in three of his last four and comes out of the Johnson barn. (4) CREIGHTON HANOVER has won two straight and moves back onto this circuit. He may offer a price and has been racing at his best.

Race 2

(4) ITS PAYDAY FRIDAY comes out of the Don Mills and faces a much easier bunch. (6) ORDER BY COMMANDER drops in class, is versatile and gets Jamieson in the bike. (2) JUSTASMALLTOWNGIRL shows the speed needed, draws well and finished a closing third last week at a higher level.

Race 3

(7) NATIONAL DEBT tasted defeat for the first time in his career last week and will look for a bounce-back effort. (1) SILVERHILL SHADOW makes just his second start of the season. He shipped from Florida, got one start under his belt on this circuit and should be even better this week. (5) SOMEWHERE IN L A gave NATIONAL DEBT his first career loss last start. He's yet to miss the barn this season and continues to improve.

Race 4

(1) BETTER GET READY raced very well last week to finish fourth considering he made a break at the start. Class relief should be a big factor. (8) BLENDED WHISKEY continues to race very competitively, has a good record this season and comes out of the Johnson barn. (2) ROETHBLISSBERGER draws inside, drops in class and has excellent gate-speed. He's a good option for the triactor and should offer a price.

Race 5

(6) BUDDY HALLY put forth a much better effort last start compared to his starts prior. He comes out of the McNair barn and a repeat effort makes him a top threat. (2) LETS LEAVEM gets much needed class relief and shouldn't get away too far back. (4) MEADOWVIEW ARTY has hit the board in each of his last two starts. He doesn't like to win, but is very capable of hitting the board.

Race 6

(3) GRIN FOR MONEY comes out of the Preferred, drops in class and has a terrific final quarter in him. (5) MCKINNEY also comes out of the Preferred, has the speed and is versatile. (4) WORLD AWAY has hit the board in his last two starts and Tackoor's barn has been terrific lately.

Race 7

(1) TAKE THAT HANOVER makes his third start of the season, is fresh off a win and comes out of the Darling barn. (2) ROCK N ROLL XAMPLE has an exceptional record this season, has excellent gate-speed and has missed the board only twice this season. (3) BAHAMA BLUE won last week for team Jamieson. She has the speed and a logical option for the triactor.

Race 8

(7) YUCATAN won last week at this level and looks to double up. (1) HES A SENSATION gets the rail and has hit the board in four of his last five starts. (6) ADVERSARY SEELSTER comes out of Moreau's barn, has been racing at his best in recent starts and just missed last week.

Race 9

(6) RAMZAN has been racing at his best, remains at the same class and once again is a top threat. (5) PARLIA HANOVER just missed last week, comes out of Montini's barn and is very capable of the class jump. (10) RIVETING ROSIE was last year's two-year-old filly champion. She'll have to overcome post 10, but I'm not convinced she's ready at first asking.

Race 10

(4) LUCAN HANOVER comes out of Coleman's barn, banked $500K last season and faces aged horses this season. He appears ready to roll after his convincing qualifier. (2) STATE TREASURER draws inside, comes out of Moore's barn and can only improve off last week’s effort. (5) UPFRONT HOOSIERBOY makes his first start of the season, has tons of back class and capable in his first start of the season.

Race 11

(5) TWIN B IMPRESSIVE went gate-to-wire in his latest in impressive fashion. He's capable of the class jump. (2) SECRETSOFTHEKNIGHT draws inside and finished a strong second last week. (6) JAC SPADE hasn't missed the board in each of his last three starts and has a terrific final frame in him.

Race 1

(4) UFDRAGONS ROCKET had some decent energy at both ends of his mile last week and he can be forwardly placed here with Bartlett driving. (1) MOVEOUTOFMYWAY goes for yet another new barn tonight but he was rather flat last out. (5) REPORT FOR DUTY N is a solid contender with these but he seems to have forgotten how to win.

Race 2

(2) GIDDY UP BLACKFLY raced very willingly versus better last out and the Garcia-Herrera trainee looks like a prime contender from this spot. (6) PANCETTA returns from California and we all remember what he did here last year. (3) YO CHEYENNE ROCKY has faltered on the front end in his last two.

Race 3

(3) GREAT VINTAGE finished with pace from a tough spot last week. Classy veteran makes his fourth seasonal start and he should be raring to go. (2) FLEM N EM N was a solid winner last week and he gets a free ride at this level. (5) BULLET BOB has speed and was pretty game in defeat last out; Sears sticks.

Race 4

(2) ORILLIA JOE gets some needed post relief tonight and he appears capable with a favorable trip; weak vote. (1) OR was razor-sharp finishing last week and he must be respected. (5) ROCK ICON gets some needed class relief.

Race 5

(3) THE LADIES MAN was used hard last week and never got a breather; smoother sailing tonight may equal victory. (5) CONNERY BLUE CHIP finished very willingly last out but he faces some tough ones in here. (1) ROCK TO GLORY was aggressively handled last out in the same race as the top choice and he can be excused for that effort.

Race 6

(3) SAPPHIRE CITY has banked over 100K this year with only one victory to show for it; from this post he may have a tactical edge over likely favorite (6) P H SUPERCAM. The latter exploded up the rail to take the Levy final and he then took a well-deserved week off; does he need some things to go his way in order to score here? (2) MALAK USWAAD N has proven he can go with these and he could be good for an on-the-board finish from this spot.

Race 7

(4) RU READY TO ROCK was super in defeat last week chasing Take It Back Terry; chance to step it up another notch and return to the winner's circle. (3) GLASS PRINCE gets needed post relief. (5) MICHAEL'S POWER has loads of class and did dispose of weaker recently; is that recent sick scratch a concern?

Race 8

(8) ANNIESWESTERNCARD may be slightly better than these but he faces a tough task from this eight-hole assignment. He's my pick by default because I don't like anyone else in here. (3) ROLLWITHITHARRY has been a solid earner all year for Dube. (6) CASIMIR JITTERBUG returns to Sears.

Race 9

(6) TEXICAN N made some money in the Levy and was Sears' choice of four. (5) DOCTOR BUTCH has raced well in all recent efforts but he can't seem to get over the hump. (4) DALLENBACH HANOVER has early speed which could make him a player.

Race 10

(4) ESPEN DE VIE closed well to be second best to lock-city Statesman N last week; maybe it's his time to shine tonight. (5) DIAMOND COWBOY toured the track from post eight in his local return; this is a better spot. (7) THIRTY TWO RED has been super in his last two but he tackles tougher and lands outside.

Race 11

(3) MACHS BEACH BOY gets post relief and was a winner from a similar spot two back. (5) MACHAL JACKSON always earns a check and he can be more involved tonight. (8) HI HO STEVERINO rallied after the fact last out; consider him for an exotics share at a price.

Race 12

(1) SHARK'S LEGACY has raced gamely in his last two from tough eight-hole spots; he's clearly the one to beat here. (4) GAMBLER'S TALE was a gutsy front-end winner when last in with this type. (3) TWIN B HOLLISTER is capable on his best day.

Race 1

(5) STORMIN RUSTLER was a pretty good eighth last week if you take the uncovered trip into account. Lasix seems to have helped this 1-year-old veteran. (6) PEMBROKE DEWEY is clearly sharp and adds Tetrick in the bike. (1) THE POKESTER had no shot most recently. His prior starts at this level were both good. (4) STALLONE BLUE CHIP dropped and almost lasted on the lead one week ago; capable.


Race 2

(6) PROPULSION finished with a strong 27 3/5 kicker in his most recent qualifier for a barn that has been sending them out ready to roll. (9) SCREAM AND SHOUT has early speed and some class but is still searching for her first career victory. (5) RAGAZZO DOLCE added hobbles and looked like a different horse. This guy has ability and might be worth a flyer. (2) MISTER BS WAY is an unknown first-time starter coming off a good qualifier.

Race 3

(1) JENERAL PATTON sprinted home in both morning efforts to prepare for his first pari-mutuel race. The winner of his most recent qualifier was super that morning and that might turn out to be a key race. (8) THEREISAPACEFORUS is a winless (14 starts) 3-year-old with early speed and ability; hard to toss. (3) CARD SHOCK went a huge mile in defeat last week.

Race 4

(7) DANCIN HILL is another coming out of the Doo Wop Hanover qualifier (see race 3 analysis) and actually produced a 25 4/5 final quarter that morning. (1) ROCKNROLL REALITY caught a sharp foe in That’s My Opinion last week. This field looks easier. (8) LET’S FOAL AROUND has been racing well and can leave away from the gate. (4) EL BLOOMBITO was Tetrick’s choice over #1.

Race 5

(7) WAKE UP PETER was given an easy mile last week and did his usual lazy grind on the rim. I’m expecting more aggressive tactics this week. (4) ODDS ON EQUULEUS returned to the races with a very nice 1:49 1/5 mile; very dangerous. (3) QUIK MAGIC gets tested for class but appears sharp enough to take home a piece.

Race 6

(4) INTIMIDATE has proven to be as fast as any trotter around when on his game. Gelding raced well in his 2014 debut and should be able to work out a reasonable trip from this post. (6) MODERN FAMILY has been rolling over his competition lately. He is clearly the one to beat but very far from a lock. (1) SEBASTIAN K S makes his first North American start and raced reasonably well in his qualifier. This guy is loaded with class and is no stranger to going a tough mile.

Race 7

(6) WARRAWEE NEEDY blew out a qualifying mile in 1:50 on 4/26 and then elected to tour the track at Pocono last week. He is the co-fastest horse in history and you’ll likely be getting a square price at post time. (7) DOVUTO HANOVER has proven he can pace a straightaway with any horse in training. If Zeron has him within a few lengths at the head of the lane, he is very dangerous. (1) FOILED AGAIN just keeps chugging along at 10 years of age. Off two subpar efforts and as the likely favorite, I have to take a pass. (5) BOLT THE DUER comes off a strong qualifier and should be ready.

Race 8

(1) TOBAGO CAYS drops down in class and was Callahan’s choice over some other legitimate contenders. (6) SEE AND SKI is talented and quirky; guessing game. (7) BREES CREEK is certainly in a winning spot, but horse and trainer haven’t exactly been visiting the Meadowland winner’s circle much this year.

Race 9

(4) MY TEMUDJIN N made a very aggressive and impressive first-over challenge in his first North American start last week. He had every right to tire and hung in nicely. Let’s see if he builds off that effort. (2) OLDE TIME HOCKEY raced well in defeat last week and looks like the one to beat this time around. (6) ONTARIO SUCCESS drops down and draws better; using. (9) OK COMMANDER has plenty of back class.

Race 10

(5) URGENT ACTION was used early and really didn’t tire that badly last time versus B-2 types. Now he drops to the C-1 level and adds Tetrick; ready to roll. (2) ANDREW LUCK figures to race well on the class drop but is far from one of my favorite horses. (6) DAVID’S DREAM is a sharp Pennsylvania import for Burke/Gingras.

Race 11

(3) DAYLON MAGICIAN got locked in through the stretch as my pick last week. He seems ready for a huge mile, so I’m sticking with him and hoping for smoother sailing. (2) MARKET SHARE looks ready to go off his sharp qualifier, but should be an underlay in here. (1) SEVRUGA is always a wire-to-wire danger. (7) ARCH MADNESS should be a nice price and don’t be shocked if he steps up with a big effort.

Race 12

(4) SIR CARY’S Z TAM went an easy mile at the back versus tougher in his first start since November. Bettor’s Delight 4-year-old made a big chunk of change last year and should be tough to beat if ready to bring his ‘A’ game. (2) LONG LIVE ROCK is clearly sharp and more than capable. (7) RUSTY SKIPP could benefit from an expected quick early pace.

Race 13

(6) SOMEPLACE SPECIAL faces a much easier group this week and figures to be tough to beat. (4) SEEK THE DRAGON finds a good spot to flash some early speed. (3) MACHIN MONEY returns to the Big M with a better post.

Race 14

(10) EXPLODENT was wiped out early and never had a shot. Post 10 will be a problem, but I’ll take the big price and roll the dice against this dull field. (7) highland terrific RACED MUCH BETTER WITH Tetrick at the helm. (3) LETTHEROCKBEGIN gets a better post to work with and should be closer to the action.

AUTOMATIC JAX - I do like the fact this colt is back in a race so quickly. Fits well considering the fact that the last time he tried this distance he got a speed rating good enough to win today. Should do well right here. Weight shift of -7 from May 2nd race at Gulfstream. MONTESARCHIO - Horses that finish in the place spot in Maiden races and finish well in front of the show horse are generally good bets next time out. I like when a thoroughbred has dropped in class at least five class points like this one did last race out and then runs against a similar field right back. Helman must've found the right class. Should do well in this field. Weight shift of -10 from April 4th race at Gulfstream.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 SAMURAI ASSAULT (ML=7/5), #5 SPEEDY BUCKAROO (ML=6/1),

SAMURAI ASSAULT - Going to have a tough go of it with all the other speedball types in this race. Finished second in his most recent performance with a substandard speed rating. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this field. SPEEDY BUCKAROO - Would have to get quite a bit more than the oddsmaker's morning line of 6/1 to invest in this horse.

CHINA HOLIDAY - Have to make this colt a serious competitor; he comes off a good race on April 26th. Last time around the track, ran the last quarter in less than 25 ticks. That indicates to me he can close well, and should be right there at the end today. BOLD SHOT - This gelding ********** a strong speed rating of 90 in his last contest. That speed figure should be good enough to win this time out. ********** a nice turf fig on March 23rd at Fair Grounds. A repeat in this race, and this one has a great shot to win. Had a dominant closing move in the last race, running the last quarter in less than 25 seconds. A similar effort today, and it's straight to the winner's circle. AUNT RUBY'S KITTEN - I seem to always make money betting Maker horses on the grass. That barn has a dominant win percent for this distance/surface. Look for this one to go all the way to the finish line at some pretty good odds in this event. Ran fifth in last race, but not more than 5 from the lead at the wire. MOON TRAVELER - This horse has a lot of class. A good sign in a race on the turf like we have today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1A BRAZILIAN COURT (ML=4/1), #4 PAGETS (ML=5/1), #5 ABOVE THE BAR (ML=8/1),

BRAZILIAN COURT - I don't see this racer doing too much off of the extended layoff. He probably needs a race or two to get back into good shape. PAGETS - Didn't come through as the public's choice back to back. Probably won't gain a winning effort today either. ABOVE THE BAR - This gelding didn't do too much last time out of the box. Hard to bet on a pony that lays up for a long time then doesn't hit the board off the extended time off. When examining today's class rating, he will have to record a better rating than last time out to battle in this turf route.

Well folks, the Peter Pan, the final graded stakes in New York for 3-year-olds prior to the Belmont Stakes, is not named after Disney Character with the same name, but after the horse owned by James R. Keene and trained by James Rowe, who was obviously named after the Disney Character! Peter Pan won the 1907 Belmont Stakes and was the leading three year old money winner with earnings of $86,790.
