Saturday’s NBA Playoffs Betting Preview and Odds

Toronto Raptors at Milwaukee Bucks (-2, 194.5)

Bucks lead series 2-1

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (52-33 SU, 45-39-1 ATS, 45-40 O/U): Toronto was ice cold from the outset while shooting 33.8 percent from the field in the embarrassing effort, but All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry insisted the club can recover. "I still think we can win the series," Lowry said after Game 3. "It's a terrible feeling, the way we got our (rear) beat. Our confidence is not changed. We'll be fine." Casey promised there would be changes for Game 4 after his club - which played 20 postseason games last season - looked like novices against the Bucks.

ABOUT THE BUCKS (44-41 AU, 39-46 ATS, 42-41-2 O/U): Shooting guard Khris Middleton scored 20 points in consecutive games as he provides complementary scoring help for All-Star small forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. The "Greek Freak" was 7-of-10 shooting while contributing 19 points and eight rebounds and is averaging 23.7 points and 10.3 rebounds. Antetokounmpo's play energizes a Milwaukee club that somehow got better after losing standout power forward Jabari Parker to a season-ending knee injury and saw its confidence grow with a 14-point road victory in Game 1.

LINE HISTORY: The Bucks opened as 1.5-point home chalk and bettors have moved the line to Milwaukee -2. The total hit the betting board at 194.5 and has been bet up a full point to 195.5.

INJURY REPORT:

Raptors - No injuries to report.

Bucks - PF Jabari Parker (Out for season, knee)

TRENDS:

* Bucks are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. NBA Atlantic.
* Under is 13-3 in Raptors last 16 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Under is 7-1-1 in Bucks last 9 vs. NBA Atlantic.
* Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Milwaukee.
* Raptors are 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings.

Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks (-3, 209.5)

Wizards lead series 2-0

ABOUT THE WIZARDS: (51-33 SU, 44-39-1 ATS, 52-32 O/U): John Wall finally got some help from backcourt mate Bradley Beal in the fourth quarter on Wednesday, when he scored 16 of his 31 points. The 23-year-old struggled to 2-of-11 from 3-point range in Game 1 and had trouble finding his outside shot early in Game 2 before exploding late. “Something I always tell myself, I don’t know what a miss is," Beal told reporters. "Like, it’s over. A miss is a lady. You just forget about it and you just move on to the next shot. That’s my way of helping me forget about my last shot, so I just stick with that and just keep it moving."

ABOUT THE HAWKS (43-41 SU, 39-45-0 ATS, 33-49-2 O/U): Atlanta is consoling itself with the fact that it kept each of the first two games close and believes the breaks will go its way at home. "We had a chance in both games," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters. "We gave ourselves a chance on the road in the playoffs. Nobody likes the result. Nobody feels any better but the fact that you are there and you have an opportunity, you have to keep building on it. ... Now we have to go home and do the same." Budenholzer made the decision in Game 2 to leave starting center Dwight Howard on the bench for the entire fourth quarter, choosing instead to use a big man with a better chance of stretching the floor in Mike Muscala.

LINE HISTORY: Oddsmakers opened the Hawks as 2.5-point home favorites for Game 3 and set the total at 209.5, as of Friday afternoon neither has moved off the opening number.

INJURY REPORT:

Wizards - C Ian Mahinmi (Out indefinitely, calf)

Hawks - No injuries to report

TRENDS:

* Wizards are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 Conference Quarterfinals games.
* Hawks are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
* Under is 4-1 in Wizards last 5 vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
* Under is 4-1 in Hawks last 5 Conference Quarterfinals games.
* Wizards are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies (+4, 189.5)

Spurs lead series 2-1

ABOUT THE SPURS (63-22 SU, 43-40-2 ATS, 45-38-2 O/U): San Antonio was only down four points at the half before a pair of turnovers and a bad defensive possession prompted Popovich to pull his starters, leading to a third quarter in which the Spurs were outscored 31-17. "Pop got upset with the guys starting the quarter, sat them, and the whole momentum changed," reserve guard Manu Ginobili told reporters. "In playoff games, especially on the road, a two-minute mental "something" can become a 10-point deficit. That's what happened. We were in good shape at the half. Not playing well, not shooting great, down four on the road, and it was a good situation. It was OK for us. We had that moment there in which the whole game changed." None of San Antonio's starters ended up playing more than 30 minutes in the loss.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (43-42 SU, 42-43-0 ATS, 40-42-3 O/U): Fizdale made one lineup change for Game 3, inserting veteran forward Zach Randolph into the starting lineup to add a stronger interior presence. Randolph responded by scoring 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds as each of Memphis' big three - Randolph, point guard Mike Conley and center Marc Gasol - scored at least 21 points. "It felt good out there to start and get a rhythm and get in a rhythm out there faster," Randolph told reporters. "It felt good out there."

LINE HISTORY: The Grizzlies opened as 4-point home dogs against their divisional rival Spurs and that number has held firm. The total hit the betting board at 190 and has been faded a full-point to 189.

INJURY REPORT:

Spurs - No injuries to report.

Grizzlies - SG Tony Allen (Out indefinitely, calf), SF Chandler Parsons (Out for season, knee)

TRENDS:

* Spurs are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss.
* Grizzlies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
* Over is 4-0 in Spurs last 4 games following a straight up loss.
* Over is 4-1 in Grizzlies last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
* Spurs are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Memphis.

Golden State Warriors at Portland Trail Blazers (+6, 217)

Warriors lead series 2-0

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (69-15 SU, 41-40-3 ATS, 33-51-0 O/U): Kevin Durant said he would have been able to go in Game 2 but the team decided to take the cautious approach and could elect to do the same on Saturday, though Durant wants to be in the lineup. "I can tell you, I've seen these injuries before," Kerr told reporters prior to Game 2 "You don't want the next step. You pull a calf, that's a pretty serious deal. He's bummed out -- he wants to play, for sure -- but he knows that we've got to do the wise thing, we've got to do the smart thing long term. It just doesn't make sense. He understands that." Durant would get a full seven days off if Golden State elects to hold him out of Game 3.

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (41-43 SU, 41-43 ATS, 45-38-1 O/U): Portland's star backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for 75 points in Game 1 but was held to 23 on 9-of-34 shooting in Game 2. "It's a series and points don't carry over, so you can't get too emotional or too low about the kind of game we had tonight," Lillard told reporters after Wednesday's setback. The Trail Blazers could also use some defensive presence on the interior after allowing Golden State's center duo of Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee to go 12-of-15 from the field.

LINE HISTORY: Oddsmakers opened Blazers as 6-point home underdogs against the Warriors, but some early action on the home team brought that number down to 5.5. The total hit the betting board as 217 and has yet to move off the opening number.

INJURY REPORT:

Warriors - SF Matt Barnes (Questionable, ankle), SF Kevon Looney (Questionable, hip), SF Kevin Durant (Questionable, calf), PG Shaun Livingston (Questionable, finger)

Trail Blazers - C Jusuf Nurkic (Questionable, leg), C Festus Ezeli (Out for season, knee), PF Ed Davis (Out for season, shoulder)

TRENDS:

* Warriors are 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
* Trail Blazers are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games.
* Under is 4-1 in Warriors last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
* Under is 8-2 in Trail Blazers last 10 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

ATALANTA -1.5 1ST HALF

There’s a common theme taking place in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, and it’s one that makes all kinds of sense in terms of a rationale as to why it’s happening.

Take a check on the teams that dropped the first two games of their respective series and then look at what has taken place in Game Three. It won’t take much study to determine that the teams trailing 2-0 have come out of the game sizzling in Game Three.

I expect more of the same today as the Hawks are in desperation mode after losing the first two games at Washington. I sure don’t see Atlanta giving up mentally, as they certainly competed in the two road games. I’m also not suggesting the Wizards are suddenly going to coast. But with the 2-0 lead, they’re in a a comfortable position. I’d rather have the team that will take the court knowing they absolutely have to win this game.

Whether or not Atlanta can win for 48 minutes against Washington remains to be seen. But I like my chances of getting a massive effort for the first 24 from the hosts. So I’m laying the -1.5 for the first half with the Hawks.

Montreal vs. New York
Play: New York +100

The Rangers came from behind in game 5 to take their 2nd straight from Montreal and take a 3-2 series lead. The visiting New York Rangers trailed the Canadiens in Montreal by a goal as late as 18:27 into the second period. In the history of the NHL in a best of seven series road teams down a goal with 18:27 elapsed in the second period had a game record of 153-604 (.202).Now the Rangers must take that momentum home where they have struggled at times this year. History is on their side though as we see by the data below. Home teams in this sequence have won over 70% of the time at home in game 6 off back to back wins. The Rangers are a dog in this game. So we will back them to end it tonight.

Warriors vs. Blazers
Blazers +6½ -110 at GTBETS in 10h

Jack's Free Pick Saturday: Portland Trail Blazers +6.5

The Portland Trail Blazers were embarrassed in Game 2 at Golden State. Look for them to come back highly motivated to get a win in Game 3 and to get back in this series now that they are at home.

The Blazers have one of the most underrated home-court advantages in the NBA. They went 25-16 at home this season, and it will be a raucous atmosphere here tonight. Look for them to feed off of that energy and to give the Warriors a run for their money.

The Game 2 effort was certainly an aberration. The Blazers had been competitive in each of their previous three meetings with the Warriors this season, losing by 8, 2 and 12 points. They were tied at the end of the 3rd quarter in Game 1, so they know that they can play with the Warriors.

Golden State is 4-13 ATS in Saturday road games over the last two seasons. Portland is 9-1 ATS in home games off two or more consecutive road losses over the last two seasons. The Blazers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine home games. Bet the Blazers Saturday.

Wizards vs. Hawks
Wizards +3 -115 at BETONLINE in 5h

1* Bonus Play Washington Wizards.

With a chance to take a strangle-hold on this series, we think the Wizards offer great value in this spot. Washington took Game 1, 114-107 and Game 2, 109-101. The Hawks have no answers for Washington’s backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal, who put up 32 and 31 points respectively in the Game 2 victory. The Wizards also looked sharp defensively, holding the Hawks to only 40.5 percent from the floor, including just 4 of 20 from range. Note that the Wizards are 8-4 ATS this year when playing on two days rest, while ATL is only 14-20 ATS in trying to revenge a loss against an opponent and just 2-5 ATS after three consecutive road games. Consider grabbing the points.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks
Diamondbacks +105 at BMAKER in 8h

Dave's Saturday Bonus Play:

1* on Arizona Diamondbacks +105

The Key: It's well documented that the Dodgers struggle against left-handed pitching. They ranked 30th in several key offensive categories against southpaws last season. And they are 3-6 against lefties in 2017, hitting just .237 and scoring 3.3 runs per game against them. Lefty Robbie Ray is one of the best young talents in the game. He has gone 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA in 3 starts this season with 24 K's in 18 1/3 innings. Ray is 3-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 9 lifetime starts vs. Los Angeles. The Dodgers are 3-12 in their last 15 games vs. a left-handed starter. Los Angeles is 5-18 in its last 23 road games vs. a left-handed starter. The Diamondbacks are 15-3 in their last 18 home games. Take Arizona.

Golden State at Portland
Pick: Golden State -6

The set-up: Portland guards Lillard (34) and McCollum (41) went wild in Game 1 but in the end, the Warriors were still able to come away with a 121-109 win. Durant suffered a minor calf injury in Game 1 and as a precaution, was held out of Game 2. The result was a 110-81 blowout win by the Warriors. Lillard was held to 12 points (5 of 17 shooting) and McCollum to 11 points (4 of 17). Golden St. spread the wealth around, as Curry and Thompson led with modest point totals of 19 and 16, respectively. Green added just six points but had 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Golden State: Durant said he would have been able to go in Game 2 but the team decided to take the cautious approach. It's possible the Warriors could do the same here in Game 3. Durant, who had 32 points and 10 rebounds in a 121-109 victory in Sunday's opener, would get a full seven days off if Golden State elects to hold him out of Game 3.

Portland: The Blazers were 25-16 at home during the regular season, finishing by winning 11 of their last 14. "We have to get a win," PG Damian Lillard said. "You don't want to go into Game 4 down 3-0. That's dangerous territory. We'll feel a lot better if we go into Game 4 down 2-1, looking to tie up the series." Portland could also use some defensive presence on the interior after allowing Golden State's center duo of Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee to go 12-of-15 from the floor. However, center Jusuf Nurkic (fractured leg) sat out the first two games of the series and remains questionable for Game 3.

The pick: Durant or no Durant, the Warriors have gone 10-1 against the Blazers the last three regular seasons and are now 6-1 against them these last two postseasons.

Doc's Sports

Dodgers at DBacks
Play: Under 9

The Los Angeles Dodgers have built their team around tremendous pitching and a very good defense behind them. The lineup is above average, but if the Dodgers are successful this season it's going to be because they win a lot of low-scoring games. On Saturday Alex Wood is scheduled to get the start. Wood has been sort of a forgotten man as he's now a bullpen guy that will get the occasional start when someone is hurt. So far he's pitched well and I think he will continue to exceed the low expectations that everyone has for him. The Diamondbacks are scheduled to send left-hander Robbie Ray to the hill on Saturday. The Dodgers have struggled mightily against left-handed pitching recently. Last season they hit an NL-worst .213 versus southpaws and this season they haven't started much better. Don't expect too many runs to get scored in this contest. Take the UNDER here in our Bonus Play selection for Saturday. Doc's has recorded four of five winning seasons on the diamond and is off to a fast start in 2017.

Rocky Fielding (-220) over John Ryder

Rocky Fielding enters this fight Saturday afternoon with a 23-1 record that includes 13 KOs. Fielding has won 5 of his last 6 fights, and he's coming off an October win over Istvan Zeller by TKO and if he fights like he did in October he will be tough to beat in this fight. John Ryder comes into this fight dropping 2 out of his last 6 fights and if he can't protect his lower body from Fielding body blows then this fight will be controlled by Fielding. Ryder is a southpaw so that should start this fight off slow as Fielding might need a couple rounds to figure out the crafty lefty, but in the middle of this fight Fielding takes control and wouldn't shock me to see him KO Ryder late in this fight. I know -220 is a steep price but overall Rocky Fielding is the better fighter.

Looking for my fourth straight free pick winner, after hitting the Capitals on Wednesday, the Under in the Nationals-Braves game on Thursday and the Orioles on Friday.

Tonight my free winner is on the Baltimore Orioles once again, as I like them to defeat the Boston Red Sox in American League East action.

With the Orioles suddenly on a hot streak, it looks like I'll be keeping a close watch on Baltimore heading into the next week. The Orioles' Dylan Bundy did a good job in keeping hitters off balance last night, tonight I'm banking on left-hander Jayson Aquino, who was promoted Wednesday from Triple-A Norfolk and will make his MLB debut.

It's funny, I read some comments by Red Sox manager John Farrell, who didn't seem too concerned about facing a pitcher for the first time, but that's exactly why it's always good to take pitchers in their Major League debut.

Hitters don't know how debut pitchers execute his pitches. Aquino is at an advantage. All Farrell can pass along is a blind scouting report. But they don't have film or records of what he can do at this level.

Aquino has the typical fastball arsenal, but has an exceptional changeup he isn't afraid to throw, and that stalls right-handed batters.

Take the Orioles and list Aquino only.

My free winner for Saturday night is on the San Diego Padres, at home against the Miami Marlins.

Now I won't name pitchers here, as I'm not worried about listing either, but it doesn't hurt knowing veteran Jered Weaver is on the hill for San Diego.

The big thing for me is the Padres on a three-game win streak, and it's the long ball that is getting things done for them.

While they're nursing a weak .215 batting average, the Padres have belted 21 home runs this month - eighth-best in the league thus far this season.

That won't bode well for a Miami pitching staff that has a 4.01 ERA, and that has given up the second-most home runs (24) in the league.

Your freebie for Saturday is the Padres, who may take a few out of the park tonight.

5* PADRES
