Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins Preview and Predictions 04-13-2019 in MLB

The Detroit Tigers have scored the fewest runs in the major leagues but amazingly are three games above .500. The Tigers will try to get their bats moving on Saturday afternoon, when they visit the Minnesota Twins for the opener of a series that was reduced from three game to two due to Friday's postponement because of snow.


Detroit (8-5) has scored fewer than three runs seven times en route to a total of 33 in 13 games and also owns the lowest batting average in the majors (.191). "We still haven't had one of those days where we're knocking it all over the field," Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters after Thursday's 4-0 loss to Cleveland. "Hopefully, we'll eventually break out as an offense and be consistent. That's what we're looking for. Right now, it's not there, but we're playing pretty good baseball." Minnesota is fresh off a two-game road split against the New York Mets in which it scored 20 runs while facing elite starters Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. The Twins smashed six homers in the contest started by deGrom and have 14 on the season, with Max Kepler and Mitch Garver leading the way with three apiece.

Pineda defeated Philadelphia last time out as he gave up two runs and four hits over five innings. Los Angeles Angels vs. Chicago Cubs Preview and Predictions 04-13-2019 in MLB


After a rough start to the season, the Chicago Cubs seem to be rounding into form. The Cubs will try to clinch their second consecutive series victory when they host the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday afternoon for the middle contest of their three-game set.


Chicago's pitching staff - particularly its bullpen - was hammered during a 1-6 start, but the team has allowed fewer than two runs in three of its last four contests, including a 5-1 win in the series opener. Cole Hamels cooled off an Angels team that entered with a six-game winning streak but managed only four hits on Friday. Two of those came from aging star Albert Pujols, who hit his 29th career home run at Wrigley Field. Chicago's Willson Contreras continued his red-hot start with two home runs - his fourth and fifth of the season - while Anthony Rizzo and David Bote also went deep in the victory.

Stratton didn't make it out of the fifth inning in his first two starts and failed to record an out in the frame last time out. The 28-year-old allowed Texas' first three batters to reach in the fifth on Sunday, but the bullpen got him off the hook, so he was charged with only two runs over four-plus innings. Stratton faced the Cubs at Wrigley Field last season while with San Francisco and allowed three runs over five frames in a win.


Hendricks was not sharp in his first two outings of the campaign, failing to get through five innings in each. The 29-year-old was hurt by sloppy defense in his season debut and gave up four runs over four innings in Sunday's loss at Milwaukee. After opening with two road starts, Hendricks will be happy to take the mound at Wrigley, where he is 26-16 with a 2.74 ERA in his career.

The Tampa Bay Rays are off to their best 14-game start in franchise history at 11-3 and look to push their winning streak to six in a row when they continue a three-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. The Pirates weren't much better with the bats until the 10th, when Colin Moran came on as a pinch hitter and belted a three-run homer off Justin Miller to provide the winning margin and give Pittsburgh its sixth win in eight games. Moran has never faced Washington right-hander Anibal Sanchez, who is scheduled to take the mound on Saturday opposite Pirates righty Chris Archer.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds are each coming off impressive series sweeps at home, but the atmosphere will be unlike anything thing either club has experienced as they prepare to square off for the first time this season. The Cardinals look to extend their winning streak to six games on Saturday when they open a two-game set versus the Reds in Monterrey, Mexico.


"So many people in Mexico will enjoy those games," said St. Louis reliever Giovanny Gallegos, the only Mexican-born player on either team. "It's good for the kids because so many people in Mexico, they can't come to the U.S. to watch big league games." The Cardinals extended their winning streak to five by piling up 26 runs in an impressive four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Reds also arrived in Mexico in high spirits after halting an eight-game slide by outscoring Miami 21-1 in a three-game mauling, matching their run total from the previous nine contests. "I'll always love being able to bring the game to other parts of the world," Cincinnati manager David Bell said of series at 27,000-seat Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey. New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Preview and Predictions 04-13-2019 in MLB

Brandon Nimmo has shaken off a miserable start to 2019, and looks to build on his breakthrough week while helping the New York Mets record their third consecutive road victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. The Mets left fielder began his season with only two hits in 26 at-bats with 17 strikeouts in his first eight games, but Nimmo is 7-for-18 with eight runs scored in his past five games, slugging a two-run homer and finishing 3-for-4 in Friday's 6-2 victory.

After a frustrating string of close losses, the Kansas City Royals slugged their way to an easy victory Friday night. The Royals will try to notch consecutive wins for the first time since opening 2-0 when they continue a three-game series against the visiting Cleveland Indians on Saturday.
