Saskatchewan (1-0) @ Toronto (1-0)-- Roughriders also turned ball over six times last week, and had 128 penalty yards, but they escaped with a win, outgaining Lions 314-217. Hard to tell if Argos pulled in reins after crushing Hamilton in first half last week- they completed just 14 of 29 passes, which isn't good, but they didn't turn ball over either.

Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-0) at Toronto Argonauts (1-0)

This will probably be the most exciting game of the week - one where the winner will be decided in the last seconds of the fourth quarter, if not in overtime.

The Roughriders stunned bettors by beating B.C. last week and Darian Durant was more than instrumental in that win. But the Argos have an improved offensive line and QB Kerry Joseph has many good targets to choose from, starting with Arland Bruce III. Running back Jamal Robertson has also been impressive in Week 1.

Despite the nice victory against B.C., they are still too many question marks regarding the Roughriders to think they could win this one in Toronto. This being said, the spread between the winner and loser will probably be minimal.

Prediction: Toronto -3

Last week: 2-2

Hot Lines: Today's best MLB bets

Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets (-141, 7.5)

The math for this one should be simple: Johnny Cueto + Johan Santana + Citi Field equals an under.

Plus, add in the fact neither team could do much damage against a pitching machine right now they way they are hitting the ball. New York has scored 10 runs its past six games, including getting shutout twice. The Mets also are 19-21-2 against the total this season at home.

The Reds, who benched leading home run hitter Jay Bruce on Thursday and Friday, also have scuffled at the dish. Cincinnati has crossed home plate just 19 times the past six games and is 16-27-1 against the total on the road this year.

This game figures to be a pitchers duel where runs will be almost impossible to come by. In Santana’s past 10 home starts, the under is 7-3.

Pick: Under

Los Angeles Dodgers at Milwaukee Brewers (+102, 9.5)

Things couldn’t get much worse for the Milwaukee Brewers. Players calling for trades, a pitching rotation decimated by injuries and, oh yeah, the team has lost six of 10 to fall 2.5 games off the pace in the NL Central.

And then the Dodgers come to town. Los Angeles has won 15 of its past 19 games on Saturday and Milwaukee just wants to put together a complete game at the plate and on the mound.

The Brewers have the 24th ranked team ERA (4.48) and is as mediocre as it gets on offense, hitting just .254 as team. Meantime, the Dodgers have scored the sixth-most runs in the league (432) and have the second-best ERA (3.52).

It will take a Herculean effort for the Brewers to win, but a victory for the Dodgers should be just another day at the park.

Pick: Dodgers -110

Streaking and Slumping Pitchers

Streaking

Brad Bergesen (Baltimore Orioles)

The Orioles' 23 year old wasn’t regarded as one of the team’s top pitching prospects at the beginning of the season. But as manager Dave Trembley prepares to make good on his word to shake up the rotation after the All-Star break, Bergesen appears more than safe.

Bergesen (5-3, 3.59 ERA) has allowed more than two earned runs only twice in his past eight starts and no more than four in any outing since May 24. In his last start, Bergesen went six innings, striking out four and yielding just three earned runs opposite Seattle’s Jarrod Washburn, who finished with a complete-game one-hitter.

In his two starts before that he was even better, allowing a combined two earned runs over 14 innings.

"He just looks like he knows what he's doing,“ Trembley told the Associated Press. “He looks very comfortable on the mound. He works fast and he can locate."

Glen Perkins (Minnesota Twins)

The 26-year-old hurler appears to finally be putting it all together for the Twins as the race in the AL Central Division heats up.

Perkins (4-4, 4.38 ERA) has been nearly impossible to score runs off of in his past two outings. In wins over the Royals and Cardinals he combined to allow only two earned runs over 14 innings while walking none.

"It was just keeping the ball down and letting it move," Perkins told the Associated Press. "You get through the game quick and there's not a lot of pitches that you waste."

Slumping

Kevin Millwood (Texas Rangers)

The ace of the Texas Rangers staff has looked more like a joker his past two outings.

Millwood (8-6, 3.34 ERA) was tagged in consecutive outings against the Angles last week, allowing 13 earned runs in just 11 1-3 innings.

The outings were by far the worst of the season for Millwood, who followed up each of his previous poor performances with a solid outing until this point.

"I didn't hit my spots,” Millwood told the Associated Press. "When I tried to go away, it would drift over the middle of the plate. And when I didn't hit my spots, they hit those mistakes."

Lady Luck: Today's WNBA best bets

Detroit Shock at Connecticut Sun (-6, 150)

You won’t find any Connecticut players in the top five in the league in rebounds, points or assists. But you will find the Sun in a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference standings.

By averaging 73.2 points per game and just 70.2 points per game against, the Sun have the second-best point differential in the conference. The Sun also posted a 95-95 overtime win over the Shock in Detroit on July 5.

Connecticut (5-5) was paced in the victory by backup center Sandrine Gruda, who scored 23 points in the win. Gruda missed the team’s first eight games while representing France in the European Championships.

Detroit (2-7) has lost its past two games and is 0-4 on the road this season.

Pick: Sun

Phoenix Mercury at Sacramento Monarchs (-2, 173)

The Mercury continue to rise.

Phoenix (9-4) has won three straight games by an average of nearly 16 points and up next for the top team in the Western Conference is a tussle with Sacramento (3-9). Looking at records, this game seems like a mismatch.

And in the team’s first meeting it was. The Monarchs blew out the Mercury, 90-70. Sacramento made only one more field goal than Phoenix, but dominated the boards, holding a 42-31 edge overall and a 17-10 advantage on the offensive glass.

Sacramento also has been playing better as of late before seeing its modest two-game win streak snapped with a loss to Seattle on Thursday.

The Monarchs are the league’s best rebounding team, but look for the Mercury to keep heating up.

Pick: Mercury

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs Chicago Cubs
+120 at BODOG Started
Bonus Play for July 10, 2009
1 Unit on Chicago Cubs +120
The Cubs are 25-16 at home this season, 9-3 in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a winning record, 4-1 in their last 5 home games against the Cards. In other words, a hungry Cubs team looking to bounce back from back-to-back home losses to the Braves is showing excellent value at this price this afternoon. Expect to see Harden's best start of the season today as he bounces back from his worst. The Cubs are 9-4 in Harden's last 13 home starts, 9-3 in his last 12 starts vs. National League Central, 5-0 in his last 5 starts in game 1 of a series. The Cards send their ace Chris Carpenter to the mound, but he hasn't been on top of his game; just 1-2 with a 4.74 ERA over his last 3 starts. Plus, the Cardinals are 1-4 in Carpenter's last 5 road starts vs. Cubs and just 3-7 in his last 10 starts as a road favorite of -110 to -150. We'll back the Cubs for a unit showing solid value this afternoon.

Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets New York Mets
-131 at JAMAICA > 10h.
Going to make this quick and easy today. Cueto has been horrible his last three starts all were terrible. On the other hand Santana has been awesome even though he has not received the run support to turn into some wins. Today CIN will continue there struggles at the plate specially since Santana is on of the best pitchers in the NL. The Mets have struggled to score but will get enough to get a win for NYM today.!!

(903) WASHINGTON NATIONALS
(904) HOUSTON ASTROS
Take "(903) WASHINGTON NATIONALS"

The Washington offense is decent, ranked 3rd in the NL in on base percentage, and they play in a hitter's park here. Starter Craig Stammen has good stuff, allowing 3 earned runs or less in 4 of the last 5 starts. Houston is 10th in the NL in runs scored and lefty Mike Hampton has below average stuff at this point in his career. The Astros are 4-8 his last 12 starts, yet he's a big favorite here. The value is all with the visitors. Play the Nationals.

Gold Cup soccer: Saturday's analysis and predictions
By SHAWN YOUNG

When it comes to numbers, Shawn Young knows what he's talking about. He's a former oddsmaker of European soccer (among other sports) and has his masters in mathematics.

Group B wraps up at the home of the New England Patriots in Foxboro, MA Saturday. The Patriots are known for such legendary quarterbacks as Steve Grogan, Drew Bledsoe, and some guy who married the most famous Brazilian who plays no soccer, Gisele Bundchen.

Saturday night’s weather looks as good as Gisele: low 70s and scattered clouds.

The USA sits atop the group with six points. Haiti and Honduras have three apiece. Grenada has none, but has entertained us by defending like the Keystone Kops.

USA (-400) vs. HAITI

The USA outplayed Honduras but left it late to score goals Wednesday. The USA eventually won 2-0. Haiti also won 2-0 by banging in two bizarre goals against Grenada.

Haiti would like a result here but will be sending out a team mostly concerned with damage limitation. Honduras is going to beat Grenada in the nightcap, so Haiti is more or less marooned in third place. The tiebreaker among third-place teams for wildcard spots is goal difference. Haiti can live with a 1-0 loss. A 3-0 or 4-0 defeat is more worrisome.

The bad news for Haiti is that the USA will have a full week off before its quarterfinal. The USA can use this game as a dress rehearsal for the quarters, rather than think about resting legs.

The handicap (-1.5, -135) is finely balanced. Eat a mouthful of chalk and just bet the USA to win.

prediction: USA 2, Haiti 0

HONDURAS (-450) vs. GRENADA

Honduras faded as the match went on against the USA Wednesday. Grenada’s 2-0 loss to Haiti was weird. The first Haitian goal bounced in off the goalkeeper’s back and Grenada coughed up a goal when Modeste refused to play the ball and left it for a Haitian striker instead. Grenada is a team of amateurs in the worst sense of the word.

Honduras wins this game to wrap up the second spot in the group. But I guess that’s no secret. The handicap is unfortunately massive. Honduras -2 laying juice cannot be bet on principle. A freak red card, a quirky ref, a linesman who thinks he’s in Semaphore class or a Honduran team content to play “keep away” with a slender lead will see -2 bettors vandalizing their TV sets across the continent. The -450 it is then.

Grenada is so bad they can’t be backed at anything short of +3.5, which isn’t available. If you don’t have enough gypsum in your system from betting the first game, hunker down and eat more chalk here. This column looks for absolutely any excuse to bet the dog in every match. We just can’t find one here.

prediction: Honduras 3, Grenada 0

Cajun Sports MLB 2* Complimentary Selection- Saturday
Date/Time: Saturday July 11 / 7:05PM EST
Sport/Type: MLB / Side
Game: Toronto Blue Jays @ Baltimore Orioles
Graded Selection: 2* Baltimore Orioles +100
Analysis:
The second game of this three-game weekend set at Camden Yards between the host Baltimore Orioles and the visiting Toronto Blue Jays has a first pitch scheduled for 7:05PM Eastern Time on Saturday evening. The Jays took the opener by a final score of 2 to 0 on Friday. We expect the host to bounce back on Saturday night they had previously won three straight at home versus Toronto until the loss yesterday. Toronto is 18-26 W/L (-6.4) on the highway this season and only 8-17 W/L (-10.0) when facing division opponents. The Blue Jays will send left-hander Ricky Romero to the bump with his record of 2-2 W/L and ERA of 3.60 when he starts away from home. He was involved in the Jays 0-3 W/L performance their last trip here the end of May. Romero started on May 26th pitched for 5.3 innings allowing five earned runs on eleven hits including three homeruns in a 7 to 2 loss. He faces an Orioles team that has averaged 5.3 runs per game at home this season with a batting average of .299 and an OBP of .361. The Orioles have held opponents to 4.7 runs per game with a .277 batting average and an OBP of .331 at Camden Yards in 2009. The Orioles will send Bradley Bergesen to the hill with his 5-1 W/L home record and ERA of 2.83 in nine starts this season Baltimore has won seven of those nine games. Bergesen took the mound in Toronto back on May 2 pitching for 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs in a 5 to 4 loss but was not involved in the decision. The Orioles are 4-1 W/L the last 5 Bergesen starts at home. The Jays are 5-16 W/L on the road versus teams that have a winning home record, 4-17 W/L versus the AL East and 1-7 W/L when installed as a road favorite. Our TPR (Team Performance Ratings) Index projects an Orioles win by 0.88 runs in tonight’s contest. Our Math Model and Pitcher Efficiency Index have the Orioles winning by a larger margin with the Math Model projecting a win by 1.4 runs and our PEI has them winning by 1.79 runs. We will back the host as they bounce back from Friday’s loss and get the Game Two victory.

Brad Diamond Sports MLB Free Selection - Saturday
Play on: Philadelphia -1 1/2 runs over Pittsburgh
Key spot here for Philly with ace lefty Cole Hamels on the hill as they have now won 7 of 8 and look to close out the first-half with a sweep of the Pirates. Hamels looks to improve over his earlier form, but still has a tendency to give up the long ball, much like Joe Blanton last night. However, with the offense finally scoring runs in bunches, I'll back the red hot Phillies
