Does anyone know if you had a XM or Sirius satellite radio player and signed up for it in the states. Would it work here?

I don't think it would. They way I understand it, the signal only can be picked up within the continental US.....

You could try contacting their customer service to find out for sure......

When I was in Belize a couple of years back, the "resort" had Sirius, that originally was registered in the States, at the cabana bar.

I recently looked into this...we appear to be on the very edge of the satellite footprint.....I imagine that with a big antenna (like the ones used for home setups) it would work

but I am not so optimist about putting it in cars....specially since it rains hard 6 months of the year and this trashes satellite signals

google 'sirius xm satellite footprint' and look at the images, you will find maps that show the footprint and we are on the very edge of it

last two cars I rented in the US had it .........and would certainly enjoy it if I was in the US for long periods of time, you can subscribe online for 13 bucks or so.......but .........I would really have to have it on all the time to 'justify it'

crap crap and crap! good one Raoul........now I am thinking about it again......urghhhhhhhh your post might end up costing me money

I have both Sirius and XM and I have not listened to "terrestrial radio" for three years, with the exception of local Yankees broadcasts here in NY that aren't broadcast on XM (they broadcast the home team radio for MLB).

Now that SIRI and XM have merged, they have combined a lot of the music programming (for free) and other programming (for a monthly fee). At this point, they are virtually the same. The music on XM was awful (although it has gotten better post-merger), but they do carry the NHL and MLB. Sirius had better music, still has better programming, and the NFL.

Satellite radio is something that I could not imagine living without (although I obviously lived w/o it before its inception).

Also, though not local in Costa Rica, check out:

These guys are experts in satellite radio and will answer any questions over the phone or internet. I'm sure they have encountered this question before.
