Cherokee boy is my pick. Lot's of speed in here, but before the derby this horse might of went off as 2nd fav, and now no respect? Notice some nat'l writters/cappers picking one of the closers due to the early speed; but I think cherokee will wire the this field. Would appreciate mazel's, cerv.'s, and pig's comments as well?? thanks guys
Thoughts early on other races as well would be greatly appreciated. And just because I forgot to list your name, (lynnk, glacken, general, ect.) don't be bashful.
I agree that Cherokee's Boy has no chance. He has the rail & 'speed' going for him. Pimlico has tight turns...he has never lost at Pimlico. His problem has I see it is that he really doesn't have that much speed. His last race was his career best Beyer. He got on the rail, has a big lead and easy race. His fractions were :48, 1.12.40 and 1.37, not exactly fast. The pace for the Preakness is expected to be fast with so many horses that like to on or near the lead. If you look at his pp's you will see that he has only faced a decent pace in sprints. He has never had to run against/set a 1.10.40/60 pace. He is not the only one that falls into this category.
SAMMY HERE IS MY TAKE.. THE TRACK LOOK'S LIKETI IT WILL BE A MESS, SO I SAY IT'S WIDE OPEN. IF THIS IS THE CASE I LIKE TWO LIVE LONGSHOTS, I DO LIKE CHEROKEE BOY LIKES THE TRACK AND CAN RUN ON A OFF TRACK...MY SECOND PICK IS KISSIN SAINT............G.L IN WHAT EVER YOU ALL DO..G
So there you have it. Basically, I think Funny Cide wins rain or shine. Peace Rules has a definite shot. Kissin Saint an interesting longshot and Senor Swinger is a closer in a race full of speed and tactical speed. Threw down a little hometown flavor with the CB trifecta too.
My main plays are the $10 trifectas with FC on top and PR an expected second with ??? third but likely IMHO KS or Senor.
