I used to run mine once a week to clear temporary files. It would take about 60 seconds and there would always be around 15,000kb's in the temporary file heading . I would delete these and be on my way. Now i have to every day or it runs slower and slower. If i don't run it every day it has over 75,000 kb's in the temporary file and takes forever to run and delete. Tonight , almost twenty minutes and 112,000kb's. What all of a sudden is causing this and what are those big number's coming from. Thanks for any help. If i don't delete a couple a times a day, it will hardly run.^<<^

I'm not familiar with Scan Disk....but i'm wondering why you would need it to delete temporary internet files when you can do that in your browser. Unless maybe you get a lot of temp files from non-internet stuff.

hmmm...tried chkdsk...apparently the equivalent on XP...and all I see is a black box that looks like a command prompt for so short you can't even read anything in it. Seems like nothing happens.

I'm sorry, it is callled disk clean up on windows XP. It is the temporary internet files that keep everything going so slow. And yes, i even do delete them from the browser and it still takes forever. Just trying to understand how it went from small numbers like 5k kb's ina day to 75,000 kb's in a day. Not literate enough to understand , just know it is slowing everything down.
