In a recent interview, Simmons said, "There's nobody in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- in fact, if you took all of them and put them together -- they couldn't match all the licensing and merchandising we've done

Gene: This attitude is why you're not in the HOF, you no-talent sell-out.

Um Gene , what about the music ? Your band has written some of worst songs of alltime..

I saw Chicago talking about their exclusion and trying to act like it was a joke. I think they are genuinely hurt.

They should be hurt.

Lifetime achievements include a Grammy Award, multiple American Music Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Chicago street dedicated in their honor, and keys to and proclamations from an impressive list of US cities. Record sales top the 100,000,000 mark, and include 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 32 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 47 gold and platinum awards.

Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in five decades.

In Billboard Magazine’s recent list of Top 100 artists of all time, Chicago came in at #13, the highest charting American band. The line-up on tour will include original band members Robert Lamm on keyboards, vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone and Walt Parazaider on woodwinds, as well as Jason Scheff on bass, vocals, Tris Imboden on drums, Keith Howland on guitar, Lou Pardini on keyboards, vocals and Drew Hester on percussion.

Totally insane that they're not in. Just a very unique sound and their sheer volume of work and amazing longevity of success is unparalleled really. Complete no-brainer. R&R HOF is so random (and probably political in some way).

You have to dig deep to find a greater lineup here with Rober Lamm, James Pankow, Peter Cetera (before he got sappy after Kath's death) and the late, great vastly underrated Terry Kath.

For your viewing pleasure, enjoy this live performance

KISS was a great band for five years ('74-'79), a good one for five more('79-'84) then turned into crap; not HOF worthy.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

the J geils band....if any of you guys ever saw them live, should be a lock, as should alice cooper a true rock icon. Donna Summer is a true pro who has one of the best voices the country has ever produced. No Rush is also very puzzling. Going to the Wall tomorrow night. Roger Waters NEVER disappoints. I am expecting big things. saw the original show at Brendon Byrne when I was a senior in high school....way cool.
Good post. JGeils Band positively top-notch show, no gimmicks just ballsy rocking with Peter Wolf dancing his ass off. Alice Cooper should be in already. "Halo of Flies" an incredible composition and my first favorite headphone song. AC hurts KIss' chances in a way as many accused them of stealing Cooper's act. IMO Kiss had a handful of good songs but that's it. Neil Diamond, who I once saw many moons ago, is not suited for R&R HoF. Sorry, he don't rock, not even a little bit. Some other Hall for him. That Chicago isn't in, which is shocking, DOES prove the HoF is a joke.

Oh shit, Lebowski is on Encore in HD!

J Geils and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes are probably the two greatest American 'bar bands' of all time.

E-Street was most of Southside Johnny's band.
'Miami Steve' Van Zandt wrote most of Southside's material, (real name Johnny Lyon), and was Johnny's guitar player in the early days.
Lyon also covered a lot of Sam Cooke.

Springsteen's current wife, Patti Scialfa was a major corraborator to the Jukes in the early days.

I grew up in Jersey, used to go to the Jersey shore all the time to watch them play at the bars, Bruce and Johnny were the neucleus of what was known as S.O.A.P (Sounds of Asbury Park)

Most of the original Juke horn section, like 'La Bamba' and such went with Conan O'Brien's (Bruce's drummer, Max was Conan's musical leader) band.

the main problem the R and R Hall will always have is that music is way to subjective per personal opinion... In sports statistics are used and numbers dont lie... thus a player with stats that dominate the game for any period of time cannot be disputed, with a few exceptions (pete rose etc.). How they can fit the music of Alice Cooper, Led Zep, Sabbath Etc (true rock bands). in with the likes Donna Summer (disco), Most all Rap, Most all Pop, etc. etc. etc............ Im not saying that those genres of music dont have a spot in music history because like them or hate them they do... but it is not rock and roll by any stretch......

there is no way to draw a line in the sand as to what is truly r&r and what is not... that is why bands and artist of alllllll sorts of non-rock genres are always gonna find themselves looking for or getting a nomination(s). Dance, pop, rap, tecno, jazz, blues, metal, hip hop this list goes on and on....
