It's a little odd to issue a press release noting the actors you are seeking to play a lead role in your film, but if you want to get attention for your hitherto unknown project, it's a way to go we suppose. And certainly one can't ignore the name Robert De Niro.
The folks behind Borsalino Films (whose only other project cooking seems to be something called "Nazi Zombies") have announced they've snapped up the rights to the book "Gambling Man" by Gary Green and are looking at De Niro for the lead. And if you're already thinking "Casino," you're probably not far off. The announcement states that: "The plot line will be nothing short of epic, like the book, pulling no punches as it traces the boss’s personal escapades through the history of the casino world from the last days of Meyer Lansky to Green’s adventures as a Donald Trump Vice President."
No screenwriters or directors have been revealed thus far, probably because the rights were only recently acquired, but it seems as though everyone involved is aiming high. “De Niro is certainly the most recognized of the actors we are eyeing for the lead in this landmark investment; but we there are several in contention and we have not even begun official talks,” said Lu Nay, of Puji Capital, one of the financial backers of the project.
In short: file this under a big, fat MAYBE, but also remember that you never thought De Niro would boxSylvester Stallone in a movie either. [PR Web]

it's a shame they can't come up with a good Gambling movie ... it's been years

Runner Runner wasn't that bad, but I was looking for More in that film.
