What town would be a great place to stay Final Four weekend? I'm looking for something within one hour of the game site.

Now I'm not assuming we're making the Final Four, but you literally can save thousands by booking now and then canceling if you don't make it. It's worth the insurance risk.

If we make the trip, I'll be looking for great restaurants, sports bars and strip clubs too. Maybe we can hook up for some good times.

Anyhow, just looking to make hotel reservations at this point, thanks.

I'm sure high rise hotels and casinos are in nice areas. Obviously, I want to avoid risk and maximize return (good times)

Casinos? does Harrah's have a property there? gotta check it out

Unless I'm advised otherwise, I'm leaning towards Caesar's in Windsor Canada.

21 miles from Detroit, they have craps and I'll probably get it comped, I think. Although that's not always a good thing :think2:

WILLIE, I was in Motown in Aug 2006 and stayed right on Jefferson which is the east/west street that abuts the Detroit River and where the tunnel to Windsor is located

Rennisance Center (GM and EDS headquarters) has super nice hotel, but I stayed across street at Courtyard Marriott for $109 (at that time).

You can literally walk north about 12 city blocks (about a half mile) to Ford Field and also get a nice peek at Coamerica Field because it's built down into the ground and the outfield fences are literally at street level.

"Hockeytown" is located right there as well...A major collection of bars and eateries.

And about halfway between the River and all of the sports venues is the "Greektown" casino to which Gasman reefered.

It's a 'town' in the manner of Chinatown in NYC etc

I was assured by Courtyard staff and found it to be true that the walk was perfectly safe. I went up at about 6pm in daylight to a Tigers game and then came back about 1030pm, stopping at Greektown Casino for about an hour and then walked the remaining six blocks back to Marriott about midnight without incident.

lots of cops in that region as the city most certainly does not want bullshit happening to visitors frequenting these busy venues.

Depending on your time available, strongly recommend a vist after 9pm to NANCY WHISKEY which is about a ten minute cab ride from the Marriott.

Located in the more beaten down part of town near old Tiger Stadium, it is the quiintessenial corner bar which features roadhouse blues WED-SAT. It's been in operation for over 25 years and the crowd when I went on a Thursday was maybe 100 (packed the small joint and spilled into the street a bit) and mostly white folks between age 30-60

Tried to get a room on-line at Caesar's Windsor. They have no rooms available for April 3, 4 & 5, none. I could get a room fully comped every other day that month.

I'm expecting all the rooms in the downtown Detroit area to be either sold out or extremely expensive, which is why I'm looking for great places to stay with 1 hour of Detroit.

When we went to San Antonio in 2004, I booked a room at Homewood Suites in Austin the week before the Sweet Sixteen. The room, flight for two and rental car came to $1,300, and I purchased trip insurance for an additional $100.

Seven days later, after the Final Four teams were known, that exact same package cost $4,000. I went to check it out for curiosity purposes, and I'm not exaggerating at all.

Any package in San Antonio was at least 2k per person. Buying a package through the schools is at least 2,500 per.

I'm certain staying somewhere outside of Detroit is our best option. Thanks for your help guys.

WIllie..if you want to stay in an area with a GREAT night life, look at Royal Oak, MI.

There is bar after bar in that town, great places to eat (Mongolian BBQ is a must).

There will be hot chics and activity every night starting on Wednesday. There are comedy clubs, dance clubs, sports bars, upscale, lowscale, whatever you are into.

Like these guys said the casinos are nice. Some good eats there also.

You might want to try the townsend hotel in Birmingham. Thats where most of the NBA teams stay when in town.

Willie you better let me know when you get here. We will meet up and do some gambling.:toast:
