Just a few days before camp he retires!
I guess he didnt want to face his suspension for smoking pot.
If he was going to retire he should of told the Dolphins before the draft.
The Dolphins should be able to sue him for breach of contract and damages.

No racial slurs please.

Yet another player afraid of the Bills D.

I guess the Gildon signing pushed that pansy Ricky over the sissy edge.

AS THE SALARIES OF ALL ATHLETE'S CONTINUE TO RISE I THINK YOU WILL SEE THIS MORE AND MORE.

AND I'AM A NOT A DOLPHIN FAN, BUT I DO HATE WANNY............

copied this from ESPN
quote-
When the Dolphins acquired Williams in a trade from the Saints, they did pick up the contract and the right to sue him if he quits early. The Saints gave him an initial signing bonus of $8.843 million, and even though the Dolphins didn't have to pay the Saints for a portion of the bonus, they do have the ability to sue for him to fulfill the contract.
If successful, the Dolphins would get a $3.3 million repayment for failure to perform. Williams is signed through 2006 and would owe the Dolphins three years

You guys just don't get it. If you are a star pro athlete and live on an upper middle class budget you would be set for life after just 5 years like him. I said it in the other thread, the guy probably has $10 million minimum in net worth after he sells those Miami houses, don't you think you could make a pretty decent life out of that? What drives most pro athletes is the competition, but Ricky obviously doesn't have it so you can't think about him like you think of the other athletes.

If only we all could be so lucky as to retire before we are 30!

so we should be able to sign contracts and not honor them? So what would he have done last year if his paychecks from the Dolphins bounced? Would he of played for free?

JDM,

Contract not being honored in my opinion would be if he went out and gave 50% and still collected the cash. The guy says his head isn't into it, so he bails without costing the team a dime for this year. In a perfect world you could say he should honor it, but in the NFL it is a two-way street. Teams can release players any year despite having a contract in almost all cases, so if a couple players go the other way it is hard to complain about it.

Williams contract is 100% guaranteed both ways and you can bet the Dolphins will sue. You have to understand that the Dolphins setup their whole team around this clown and now he bails. He should have to pay the price.

Williams had three years left on his contract, with base salaries of $3.75 million in 2004, $3.74 million in 2005 and $3.5 million in 2006. The contract also included incentives that could have added more money, so Williams is walking away from $10 to $12 million.

Most likely Ricky will regret his decision someday mainly because he is essentially throwing away a lot of money. Obviuously he can live off what he has already, so all new earnings could be re-invested. Atheletes need to strike while the iron is hot, especially NFL players who have short playing careers to begin with. Good luck to ya Ricky.
