I am quite ignorant when it comes to Hgh and other similar substances. Could anyone tell me what they are used for that is positive? Are they prescribed for certain medical conditions? What were they originally created for? Can they be used safely as part of body conditioning programs?

Actually NBA#7, the body naturally secretes it but around the age of 30 it slows down. What it does is it keeps one slim and builds muscle mass.

There were some ligit use for kids trying to become taller among other diseases.

May want to check out www.eternalhgh.com as a good overview of the subject.

But as to the subject at hand, why is this a story?? I mean he didn't take it while it was illegal in the MLB and its not illegal for the average Joe to take this even to this day.

Who cares? Growth should be OTC anyways.

there was a thread awhile ago titled something like "Guys I know took steroids" In it I said I played against Ankiel and knew a few other guys that did as well and all of them said they never saw him do it but were pretty sure he did. Can I get at least a pat on the back for that one.

rumors I've heard say he WAS also linked to another white powdery substance. Keep in mind I said Was. I'm not saying he still does, or even ever did it, just what I've heard.

Does this mean I have to give back my fantasy points with him yesterday?? Picked him up for the playoff run and he went crazy yesterday with a home run, double, single, 3 runs scored and 7 RBI's....

Nats ink Ankiel to one-year, $1.5M contract

Ankiel can earn another $1.25 million through performance-based bonuses. The 31-year-old former pitcher is an incredibly gifted athlete, but he lacks the kind of plate discipline that you'd want in an everyday player and he's likely to serve in a platoon next year in Washington. Slick Rick batted just .232/.321/.389 with six home runs and 24 RBI over 211 at-bats in 2010.
