“We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right,” Lowery said."

EDIT: I believe the first line is actually "when black will not be asked to get in back". Still, it doesn't change the parts I think are objectionable"

Would love to hear people come in here and explain to me how this hate-speech will help to unify the country. Did Obama actually approve this joker?

1) What are the blacks being asked to give back?
2) Are the asians yellow? What is the "mellow" reference - all the rioting - didn't know there was a lot of that within that ethnic group?
3) I'd certainly take offense if I was a Native American with that term
4) And, way to clump every white individual with the few racists. Who determines what is "right". I'm guessing it is himself and the Reverend Wrights and Al Sharptons of the world.

That shit was on point! Loved that part. He's earned the right to say whatever he wanted to. He's been through hell and back to pave the way for this day.

Won't dispute what he's been through (at least back in the 1960s,70s) but could you ellaborate on what exactly about this speech was "on point". Everything he said, some things he said, one thing he said.

That line sounded racist to me. If true, I don't think he like white folk much!

YUP! It's totally cool to be a racist, as long as you're not white.

I wonder what Obama's mother and Grandparents would say about that line

That man has waited 80+ years to say what he wanted to after being beaten, hosed down and had his life threaten by whites his whole life. I applaud him for his courage to pull no punches and be funny at the same time, the same as you people :nohead: when Don Imus called a group of black student-athletes Nappy headed hos. It's bigger fish to fry in this country so stop whining and get over it. An old black man said something that could be perceived as racist at the inaugration :sadbb:

I didn't find the statement from either old man (Imus or the Reverend) funny. And, interestingly, Sharpton and Jackson didn't think there were bigger fish to fry within the community when Imus made his comments. Sounds a bit like a double standard to me.

i applaud him for his struggles he went through and he lived a great life and fought the good fight

our point is what good is saying stuff like that gonna do...it defeats the purpose of what he fought for to get to this day....the racial divide.....its not about white, yellow, brown, black....as he put it in his speech its about us all getting along in a free society as one people....

i haven't done anything to the black man my entire life and neither have my parents.....and i feel i have "embraced what is right"

and yes imus is a fuckin idiot trying to sell a product and get high ratings.....to get more listeners and thus more money and advertisements.....

Well let's just all hold hands and sing We are the World together! Come on fellas stop nitpicking on trivial shit. This country is really fucked up right now and division is not what's needed. If I had to count everytime I read an off-color comment in this forum well I wouldn't have the time

well its about the context

inauguration of first partial black president in the history of our country being watched by millions

vs. a political forum that probably gets a few hundred visitors on average a day

by the way whatever happened to the "he's not black enough days" :lolBIG:

he's gone from being this fake half kenyan half white harvard snob guy to being some sort of black messiah over the course of the last few years....

I know you're not suggesting a little racism is an OK thing, when there are more pressing issues going on. Were it not for the Jacksons and Sharptons of the world fanning the flames at every opportunity, I'm not sure I would be as aghast as I find myself.

All this aside, though, as Tiz pointed out and you yourself said - this event is/was about coming togehter. Why would the Reverend even give a hint of this in his benediction (regardless of his past trials - one might suggest he, above others, should know better).

Its double standards abound. Everyone knows this. The white population has to follow a certain code when speaking to not offend the once oppressed black population. But at one point or another we all were oppressed. Funny how a half black man gets elected, and all of a sudden politics and the geopolitical world matters now to alot of people who could care less just a year ago. Is this a good thing? Surly it is.

But with this rational, what happens in 8 years when his isnt POTUS anymore? Will the support still be there? Will the interest still be there? Will a population ravaged by one parent homes, failing education and violence be on the way to a recovery? I hope this is the case. Believe me, the black population got a raw deal from the jump and the white population did it no favors for over 100 years after slavery was abolished. This was inexcusable and an outright travesty that this would take place in a land where freedom and liberty and justice was said to be for all. Slavery equal to rape is the most destructive and cruel act you can put a person through. But its time we closed the chapter of drawbacks and anger and turned a page into a new one of personal responsibility. The reality is the black population has been inspired and this breeds confidence. But the honeymoon will be over soon. Its time for accountability and acceptance from all races.
