Republicans have been loudly bemoaning high gas prices as of late, but, not surprisingly, the only proposals they offer are the same ones backed by the oil companies. And then when they have a chance to actually lower the price of gas, they revert to their same old ways. Last Friday, Democrats in the Senate brought up a bill to lower gas prices by cracking down on oil speculators -- who experts say have needlessly driven up the price of oil -- and could only muster 50 votes, with nearly every Republican Senator voting to stop the bill from advancing.

The only problem is the congress won't do it - Why do the Democrats refuse to reach consensus with the Republicans unless they're ALSO bought and paid for by big oil - since those record profits are happening because the Democrats won't allow new development in the most reliable energy areas such as nuclear and they won't allow any new drilling.

Given the steps the Republicans are going through to push any energy policy, I'd say the Democrats are the guiltier party.

I believe Obama will be able to indirectly influence gas prices downward in our country while he is in office. Let's watch and see. I'm familiar with economics so I understand the dynamics of supply and demand but there's more behind these oil prices I think than supply and demand.
