or not?

Please my fellow fiscal conservatives explain this to us. The Repugs keep calling back to the glory days of Reagan but I found this interesting read at http://www.cedarcomm.com

Here is a small glance at it....

As President Reagan entered office in 1981 he repeatedly called for a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, yet never submitted a balanced budget himself[7]. Many on the right reflexively blame the Democratically controlled Congress for the “big spending” during his administration, even though Republicans controlled the Senate for the first six years of his two terms. Only during the last two years of the Reagan administration was the Congress completely controlled by Democrats, and the records show that the growth of the debt slowed during this period. It appears that the frequently referenced Reagan’s Conservative mythology is contrary to the truth, he was an award winning, record setting liberal spender and government grower.

The fact is that Reagan was able to push his tax cuts through both Houses of Congress, but he never pushed through any reduced spending programs. His weak leadership in this area makes him directly responsible for the unprecedented rise in borrowing during his time in office, an average of 13.8% per year. The increase in total debt during Reagan’s two terms was larger than all the debt accumulated by all the presidents before him combined. From 1983 through 1985, with a Republican Senate, the debt was increasing at over 17% per year. While Mr. Reagan was in office this nation’s debt went from just under 1 trillion dollars to over 2.6 trillion dollars, a 200% increase. The sad part about this increase is that it was not to educate our children, or to improve our infrastructure, or to help the poor, or even to finance a war. Reagan’s enormous increase in the national debt was not to pay for any noble cause at all; his primary unapologetic goal was to pad the pockets of the rich. The huge national debt we have today is a living legacy to his failed Neo-Conservative economic policies. Reagan’s legacy is a heavy financial weight that continues to apply an unrelenting drag on this nation’s economic resources.

The funny thing is as a Democrat at that time growing up in NJ I always remamber what a great leader and speaker but bad President Reagan was. Why do you always call back to the Reagan glory days?

So I'm assuming you never complained about the deficit under Bush, is that correct?

Because if you did , would that make you a hypocrite if you condone Obama's massive growth in the deficit?

I have a huge problem with this new debt. It is fucking ridiculous. Fuck bailing these guys out and the stupid investors who used this money to buy more homes they couldn't afford and the people that would tell me they were cashing out their equity.

Great leadership qualities and great orator. Just bad with the money and expanded government which is very typical for a Repug President.

you know that they have no rebuttal for that . . . because its true! you will never get them to admit it either. no matter how many times we tell them that clinton, dodd, frank and even obama are responsible for the housing mess, they will just continue to dodge these threads and open new ones about "what would reagan do" and other ridiculous topics. dumicrats just blame everything on bush because its popular and convenient

You mean the Gramm-Leahy-? Act?

Agree all the way. Though you cant just blame that on Clinton. I blame him for signing it. Terrible mistake it caused the sub prime crisis or the greed from investors using these loans for investments and salesman pushing unqualified buyers into these loans.

Sounds like your calling me prtisan on this issue and your way off base. The sad thing to see is Clinton denies this was a problen as do the writers of the bill. Just like Reagan that wouldn't veto budgets that weren't balanced. He wasn't true to his word of having a balanced budget.

I have a heck of a lot more problems with Clinton than that and in hind sight that is the biggest mistake of his presidency, well maybe not making Monica swallow the evidence was worse but that is a different subject.

They?

They who?

Are you implying I am a Democrat?

Fuck you.

Once again don't forget they also included Gramm who is one of them(spinless politician) too. I dont see him owning up to this either.

Stop falling in line with this partisanship bullshit. This is the problem. These guys are all for themselves and big business. I still wonder who Obama owes because I believe his money cam from some big contributors as well as many small ones. I am sure time will prove me right or wrong there. Hopefully he is truly trying to advance the cause of the average guy......but I doubt it. For now I am staying put in CR.

Let's work on mastering the english language a little better......"at that time" ......meaning at that time I was a registered Democrat....now I am a registered Libertarian and have been so since '92....hard to believe any one is worse with the language than I am ....I guess for you ignorance is bliss...
