you have an interesting take on things my friend
I'm going to suggest that if the players can't execute his system, he's not a very good coach
reminds me of the three miserable years of UConn football under Paul Pasqouloni, He implemented a "zone blocking scheme", and brought in the "guy who wrote the book" on zone blocking schemes. He turned the strength of our team, the OL, into mush. We couldn't pass block and we couldn't run the ball. His defenders kept saying the system will work once the kids understand it.
When he was fired, our AD, a former OL @ MI, said "I want to see our offensive line hit somebody". That sir, is all you need to know about complex schemes. IMHO
Thats what I'm saying.
He is almost too smart for his own good.
People that are not close to the situation just assume he is an idiot that does not know anything about defense.
The truth is he is way over his students heads to the point where it brings a negative result.
Im not saying he is a great coach I'm just saying he has a brilliant mind and knows his D.
He could write a more indepth book on defense theory then Wade Phillips could ever dream of writing .
If he gets another chance he needs to realize you don't always have to have the most advanced scheme to have success.
If you are bogging down your unit with heavy game plans that's so deep that the players are spending too much time thinking about assignments it don't matter how sound the game plan is on paper.
These players are not robots.
Rob Ryan would have been a good coordinator back in the day before all these injuries ,practice restrictions, and free agency.
Im this day and age of revolving door lineups , injuries , and restricted practice schedules he will never have enough time to implement his deep schemes.
Im not saying he is a good coordinator .
Im just saying he is not good for a different reason then most people say.
Sometimes you just need a guy to tell the players to go play football.
