Harbaugh's mistake is not sitting out a year. The 49ers were not going to bring him back but he is still under contract because the team would pay his final year. There are limited NFL jobs open. Raiders, Jets and maybe the Bears but they are too cheap to pay what Harbaugh would want. Atlanta is also a possibility but I think that depends if they get into the playoffs or lose tomorrow. Next season many more jobs might open. Tom Coughlin could decide to retire or could be let go if the Giants don't bounce back. Gruden is on thin ice with the Redskins and Snyder will pay do whatever it takes to bring in a top coach. I think Harbaugh told the Dolphins he wasn't interested because they would have terminated Philbin. Don't be shocked if the Saints job opens up too next season. I guess if your Harbaugh that $48 million is too much to pass up even though he would like to stay in the pros.
