Alex Rodriguez’s “retirement” looks like it’s going to be short-lived.
The now former New York Yankees designated hitter never said his career was over, even as he and the Yankees announced the awkward end to their relationship last week.
Rodriguez on Friday played the final game of his Yankees career, but his career isn’t over yet, according to ESPN’s Jim Bowden.
Bowden said Monday morning on MLB Network Radio that it’s likely Rodriguez signs with the Miami Marlins to play first base.

The A-Rod/Marlins marriage certainly wouldn’t be surprising. Reports of internal talks within the Marlins organization about Rodriguez surfaced as his Yankee career came to an end. Marlins manager Don Mattingly also said that while the Marlins weren’t serious about signing Rodriguez at the time, they weren’t ruling it out, either.
Assuming the Marlins do sign Rodriguez, per Bowden’s report, it will be interesting to see how often he plays. Rodriguez has just two games (one start) of experience at first base in his 22-season career.
He does, however, have Miami ties, and he does present at least some level of marketability, especially considering he’s just four home runs away from 700 for his career. Additionally, if Rodriguez is able to give the Marlins anything at the plate, that would be a welcomed addition as the club lost slugger Giancarlo Stanton for the rest of the regular season with a groin injury.
