Rental car question ?

It seems renting a car with unlimited mileage is possible for perhaps as low as $200/week ? ( or less)

I plan to just that, soon ! Start in LV, goto N Az, SF,LA,SD,etc.

probabaly ( sp) 2k+ miles in 7-10 days or so.

Why would they let me rent a car this cheap ?

Rental cars typically have under 40k miles on them, I'm going to put a good 2k on the clock.

I always thought, unlimited mileage is if you Stay Local or In-State ??
are you sure about this, to travel ...State to State ?

In most cases I've seen the unlimited mileage has a maximum range (usually in-state) from point of rental, though you are free to drive as much as you wish within that range. Though if you pay a daily/weekly premium ($10-12 per day avg) you can expand that range.

I checked with Enterprise last week and they were offering unlimited miles $35 a day, plus $15 for insurance, or $34 a day for full coverage insurance. FWIW...but you can probably find better deals out there.

actually I'm not certain of terms, so your point ( BAS) is very valid.

I assume I can take a rental car across state lines w/o a problem....it must be so ? It's not a rental scooter your supposed to keep within the confines of Miami Beach, after all ?

I can certainly see not taking it ( rental car), to Mexico.... without added insurance being required !

However consider me... I live in Ct a small state ( 3rd smallest state).

Say my car gets wrecked, ins. co. gives me a rental, while they fix my car.

I'm within 100 miles of the bordering states of NY,Mass, and RI.

I can then only legally drive that rental within CT ?

I think not !

Oh no, major rental carriers would not restrict you from leaving the state. However, they might have language about the "unlimited mileage" that is restricted to a certain range. Just make sure and find out by posing your travel plans as hypothetical.

the reason they can do it is becoz the vast majority will not use many miles... so for the one or two folks that do, it all balances out.

Seems to me you can't say just LA ( why not SD ?)...maybe just California, but then not why Arizona ?

The only way to know if your plans could be realized at the rate you envision is to contact the lessor and ask them directly

i used to get rental cars in lv for $80 -100 per week all the time. just within the last year rates have soared, everywhere. next month in philly the cheapest is $300 for two days.
they do have restrictions on unlimited mileage so check and just rent one that allows for out of state.

im sure they don't care doug, the next 10 people who rent that same car will probably use much less mileage so it will all average out for the rental company.

Don't worry about the mileage. The vast majority of rentals are unlimited. Ask about traveling to other states, as they say you can go to UT, AZ, CA, which I think covers you.

I once rented a car and returned 24 hours later and the guy asked me, did you just drive it around for 24 hours, as I put 700 miles on it.

Also, when I rent in LV, I usually probably only put 150 miles on the car in a week.

The mileage is not a problem, your only concern and not from an insurance standpoint, but just find out about the out of state travel.

The mileage is not a problem, your only concern and not from an insurance standpoint, but just find out about the out of state travel.

Most major carriers now have GPS units on the car so they can see to exactly where you traveled, so keep that in mind and realize you can't "fool them" on the back side.
