At half time the CBS guy said UConn is on a run similar to UNLV of about ten years ago.I remember the great Rebel teams of the 90's. They were unbelevable. The whole town was behind that team. Tickets and games were like a Rock star concert. All the local celebrities were there. The games were really a scrimmage. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago. I liked that Duke beat them in the final game that one year. If you lived there it was nauseating listening to the locals. They really had an NBA team with LJ, Greg Anthony and that other power foward. I remember that idiot Anderson Hunt declaring himself after his Junior year. Anyone would have looked great on that team. Reeeeeeeeeeeebels were awesome.

My favorite Rebel tam was the 1987 edition, the one that los to eventual champions Indiana as a 4.5 point favorite.

Armon Hammer Gilliam
Fearless Freddy Banks
Geraldo Paddio
Jarvis Basnight- turns out the guy was 26 but said he was 22.

Railbird- what is the story behind Basnight being 26, I hadn't heard that before.

Like most, I remember that team well. Especially later when Larry Johnson's Upper Deck rookie card came out. I had about 20 each of his and Mutombo's Upper Decks rookies.....thinking I had a fortune......

Yeah, but the team won the title in 1990. Maybe Ackles was the weak link because Moses Scurry was the center for the champs. As for Rail's man Hunt, the guy ended up in court a few times, if I remember right one time he basically rented a car and just figured he never would have to return it. He must have thought he was still playing for the Rebs and a booster was "taking care of it"

One good story was H. Waldman. I can't remember if anyone ever heard his first name. He was going to be the second coming of Larry Bird, a white kid that tore it up for Clark High and one of the better players ever to come out of Vegas up until that time. Once at UNLV all he did was showboat and score a few points a game. The kid couldn't take the pressure and when Tark left he didn't like Rollie so he transferred to St. Louis and I heard he played for some time in Europe and Israel.

H Waldman was the man , and the Rebs kicked as through the year the NCAA cracked down on them. They were on probation given, and they beat the crap out of LSU with Shaw, Stanley Roberts and Macmoud, that was the highlight for me.

lets not forget travis bice the 3 pt. shooting ace off the bench who wasnt even recruited. this was simply the best team ever.

anderson hunt was the man!

the defense the rebels played will probably never be topped. it was rediculous the way they toyed with opponents.

they got screwed by the refs big time in that duke game on a charge called against anthony that fouled him out, in which he also made a hoop (a 5pt. swing) but that was the same duke team they beat by 30 anyways. lol.
