Alabama +14, -120 for 4 units

Yes, this is a homer play. But beyond that, I think that Wichita St takes a hair step backwards in talent, while Alabama is a much improved team from last year with depth that makes them more competitive. Teams are familiar with one another, met 4 times in recent years. They should know how to play one another. One key stat I like is that Alabama leads the Nation in Free Throw Percentage, which is an indicator of how much better this team shoots the balls than in year's previous. Obviously State has a 22 game home streak on the line; I'm not asking Alabama to win, I just need them to cover. Utah and Seton Hall are the 2 best indicators on their schedule thus far, and both played the Shockers competitively. Alabama lost by 10 to Iowa State and 13 to Xavier thus far. Both teams are proving to be very good and should help Bama prepare for tonight. The Iowa State game was definitely within reach. Xavier was not, but by this time last year, Alabama had laid many eggs already....they never gave up against Xavier, shot 52% in a losing effort, and until they do, I just think you have to play them.

So Bama lost by 10 to a team that lost to Wich. St ? Sounds like more of a take Wich.St -14 ???? Don't get your reasoning but BOL

Don't know what you're talking about, palehose1? I'm kind of confused: Only two games Alabama lost were @Xavier and @Iowa State, like RE stated in his post. Wichita State hasn't played either one of those two, nor has RE implied that they did.

Ya know, misinformation is a terrible waste of the mind. Those two games were played on a neutral court. I like Red L, but this has ambush written all over it. Tulsa, who returned everyone and has a pretty good game, went into the Witchy Center and got their asses handed to them....and they have a better team than Bama by any measure. Good luck with this one.

Sorry T, didn't mean to post any misinfo. Red never indicated that these were true road games. I just was confused by pales statement since I didn't get, why he thought that Bama & WST had a common opponent so far, that beat Bama by double digits and lost to WST.
So I looked up both schedules without verifying if those were true road games or played at a neutral site.

I have no clue about tonights game, actually like that WST and their playing style, but in general I'm hesitant with spreads that big, especially if you are going against good shooting teams since most teams just don't care if they win by 10 or 15 and let up at the end of a game and esp. a team with good shooters can take advantage of the backdoor in that case.
And yes, Tulsa has played some good games and brought back a very decent team, but they also played some awful games like the loss vs SE Oklahoma State and besides that, imo Bama & Tulsa are very different teams from the limited amount of time I've seen them play this year. So even if they got blown out, that doesn't necessarily mean that Bama will struggle as much as Tulsa did.

Either way best of luck to Red, you and pale or anyone else for that matter. Was just posting because I was wondering which part of Red's post made pale make type his reply, that's all.

Sorry, I spilled some coffee and got me pissed off, didn't mean to go off on ya, but folks need to know that those games were played on a neutral court. My apologies. GLTU

Ha Ha....nice healthy debates, but I did not say anything about common opponents. So to clarify, Alabama winning non conference games at any site has been a struggle the last few years, and they have also been a horrible shooting team. Despite that they have played Wichita St competitively anywhere they played them. The fact Alabama beat Arizona State and others anywhere is a testimony to their ability to shoot better and play more competitively. In years past if the Defense broke down, they got killed. This year they can shoot with people. By the way, the Xavier game at Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio is not what I would necessarily call Neutral. I don't know if Alabama is up to the task, but what I do know is that I have been frustrated at Coach Grant for many reasons, and all of the sudden he has put together a team that mimics his old VCU Teams....that is what we have been waiting for, and he's got a good class coming in behind it. His recruiting prior to that was poor and questionable. This team has talent......I'll take the 14 especially since its 12 now.

Red, you know I read your stuff. Wasn't trying to muddy the waters or anything like that. Just had to clarify a mistake. I wish you the best with this play, personally, not touching this game. GL my friend.

I looked at this game in favor of alabama too, but then I saw alabama has a couple guys down to injury.... I don't know to much about this years bama team.... Are those injuries to starters? Bench guys?.... Since I don't know im with Tmader, not touching this game just for that reason and the fact that whichita state is great at home. My lean would be towards bama, but it's not strong enough to warrant any money on my end. BOL tho man! I hope they cover for you red

No injuries....Ricky Tarrant left the last game with cramping problems. He's Probable and good to go......and although he is a leading scorer much of that has been coming off the bench. gl

Gut feeling is that its going to be close with the Line.....I like my 14. Bama shoots well they cover easily, if they don't we all know what could happen at Wichita.....Bama can match up with them down low......they've got to play some D against those big guards, but they have plenty of legs with depth to rotate.

To Red Elephants and the other posters to this thread.......... I appreciate the healthy, respectful friendly debate on this game. I especially like reading Red Elephants takes, plays and thoughts on why he likes a "side" or "total" ...........there are way to many posters that rarely or never do writes up or explain why they are making a play on a game. I truly understand that it is very time consuming and hard work to do write ups and on my end they are vey much appreciated. Thanks guys for providing some healthy dialog & debate on this game.

Red Elephants good luck on your play tonight. To all the posters GLTU also.

I am confused. What common opponent is there between these 2 teams? The 2 teams Bama lost haven't played W. State have they? What am I missing in this breakdown?

Where is everyone getting that I wrote this? I wrote nothing about common opponents, they have none.
