Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, who has been the subject of trade rumors in recent days, has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park, according to manager John Farrell.

Right-hander Brandon Workman will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket and start in Lester's place.

"In light of all the uncertainty surrounding Jon Lester, it's probably in everyone's best interest that he does not make that start," Farrell said after Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Toronto.

Farrell did not announce a corresponding roster move for Workman's recall. Lester also was unavailable for comment after the game.

Fucking owners think they are the smartest people in any room that they are in. If they trade Lester I will not watch another pitch this year. Lester has been nothing but a class act since hes been in Boston, even after ownership insulted him with a lowball offer at spring training. Lester has shown his worth, he should be untouchable.

Can not understand the need to trade Lester. He has said he wants to stay. Pay the man his money-he is class and NO ONE has enough quality starters. Who is going to fill in CLay/De La Rosa/We8ster/Felix???

It's gonna be sad to see him go.

I'm a fan of his. I was at his no-hitter back in 2009.

They are smart to not cave in & give a ton of money to a 30+ year old pitcher as those deals always seem to bite a team in the ass down the line. He has mentioned a possibility of being traded & resigning back later on so a good chance this could be a win-win for the Sox who get good players for him in a year they are not going to win anyhow & then get him back after.

Lester to Baltimore is the talk now......wow, within the division. Maybe he goes out on loan and re-signs with The Red Sox in the off season.

Talk is Horseface maybe going to The Marlins

The Red Sox have three tasty morsels

Papi - best clutch hitter in the game
Koji - the best closer
Lester - one of the top starters

Oh yea. All with stellar Playoff resumes.
