Now that Curt Schilling has signed with the Red Sox, do you boys think the Yankees will be able to keep up? Who will they go out and sign? The Yankees appear to be a team in decline - it's not looking good for the boys in pinstripes, no siree. This could be the year . . .

And imagine if they upgrade from a 2003 Garciaparra to a 2004 A-Rod. Whoa mamma.

Plenty of games, he had a short season in 2003. Guys with a lot of heat and movement can pitch until they are really old, those are two things that don't go away as you get older. I would worry more if he had lots of shoulder or elbow trouble, but that hasn't been his history.

Question is what are the Sox going to do with salaries? Are they truly going to dump off Ramirez or other guys? Yankees are probably going to get better offensively, you look at the kind of upgrade they could achieve getting a 3rd baseman to replace Boone or if they get Guerrero in right. Not to mention if Giambi is healthy. Scary thoughts of how everything could be in the AL East, the best staff and the best lineup. I would make the Sox a slight favorite, but can't imagine Georgie sitting on his butt letting the Sox take it to him too much.

The Yanks losing Petitte will hurt.

The hiring of Terry Francona as Bosox manager would be a great move by the organization.

ps- The Yanks lost Popeye too.

Bill,

You are 100% right about the AL East. The Jays are going to be good this year too - in any other division they could threaten for the pennant. If they can get somebody to take Ramirez they should dump him. He's a hell of a hitter, but with all the offense they've got in the lineup that money is better spent elsewhere.
