Hopped right on that puppy! Despite the most current news that "negotiations are off" by Henry tonite in the news, this is mostly posturing if history is any indication of the past.
They "called off" the Dice-K talks like four days prior to him signing, this type of crap happens all of the time and you can't just let Boras push you around, Sox are calling his bluff about the "other team" which a much larger offer.
Some suspect the offer is from the Nats for 10 years, but I doubt he goes to a small market team that doesn't have a ton of chance to win.
If they get Tex having +800 odds on them will SHARPLY fall once the wagon jumpers come on in. With a less injured team last year, they most likely would have given the Phils a good run for their money. I expect them to be better this year... hopefully a more productive year from Poppy, Beckett appears to be getting better (and if history is any indication for him, he will have a monster year.. he is one off, one on typea guy it seems)
I just don't think those odds are set straight, with a healthy team last year they could have easily one! Now they are in serious negotiations with the best hitter on the market and you give them +800 and the Yankees +300 after signing CC? Makes no sense!
Point being, Red Sox will contend with or without Texeira next year, and shouldn't be getting 8-1 to win.
Take it or leave it, but I think the value is super high!
