I thought I remember a good recruiting thread here every year. National signing day is only a little over two weeks away so I thought I'd start one.

1. Who has been the best recruit thus far as far as All-Star game performances or other showings?

2. Any guess as to the top 5 or so recruiting classes?

3. What school ends up #1?

Well, Alabama & Ole Miss seem to be leading the way for the SEC....but several SEC schools, as usual are in the top 10. Depends on what recruiting site you visit. Ohio State, as usual. LSU is doing well.

I think Ohio St had a pretty big day today. The SEC is strong as usual. LSU seems to be missing on a few getting down to the end. They were ranked at 1, but I see them slipping.

UGA is interesting to follow to see if Kirby can swing some players. Should be an entertaining 3 weeks.

Bama is 4th of 5th in the SEC in all the rankings. They aren't in the top 5 overall on any site, all though i'm sure they will be by the time its over. LSU is 1, 2 or 3 at the lowest on every site. Michigan is top 5 on every site.

It will be interesting over the next two weeks. Will Michigan land the #1 player overall or will Ole Miss bring in the bagman to lock him up?

Clemson has 3 of the top 16 recruits overall. Also has the best star per player rating behind Georgia. Dabo building a program with staying power. Top 5 at least.

Had a discussion on who Clemson hurts the most with their recent success. Has to be USCe. I believe it will hurt Tennessee as well. Clemson has historically went after kids that UGA didnt recruit that hard. Would love to see them hurt Barn as well.

It's hurting Barn some as well. Clemson landed a stub RB in Tavian Feaster. Same HS as Stephen Davis (best RB ever out of state of SC IMO, unless you wanna consider Demetrius Summers, sad story there as people make the NFL with a 1/4 his talent). He couldn't be persuaded off of Clemson...If he puts on the College 15-20 lbs and keeps his speed (fastest 40 yd dash already), this kid could be special. I don't see how they could redshirt him so Gallman and Co. in the backfield with Watson could be a lot of fun to watch...

Big day for ohio state yesterday as they had some spots to fill.. I am thinking off the top of my head they have to fill 15 of 22 starting positions next year and am assuming most will be filled by freshman and sophmores.

if Ole Miss land Gary they will have 3 of top 4 players in nation...like I am living in some bizarroworld.

Bama have their biggest recruiting weekend of the year coming up in a few days. They will be back in top 5 (currently 13th) if they snag the LOI expected starting with Mack Wilson and Ben Davis...

overall #1 is probably out of Bama's reach this year and I would expect top 3 to be Ole Miss, LSU, Ohio State and then either UGA or Bama (#12 and #13 right now) closing huge for that #4 or #5 slot. Bama, unlike Clemson, got some incredible news with only 2 juniors (Derrick Heisman and A'Shawn) declaring for draft ... similarly LSU just 1 junior leaving when in past few years have been 5+.

Bama this year made it 13 straight national champions who had a 4-year recruiting average inside the top 12 in the nation.

Rivals issued their final top 250 today ... https://rivals.yahoo.com/alabama/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-rivals250/2016

in orlando it was gary ... was unblockable in practices then had a huge game ... was expecting him to choose LSU but then dropped them and now looks b/w Michigan and Ole Miss (bama very outside shot, if that). other than Gary that Simmons kid really stood out...thought Bama had him wrapped up but sounds like Ole Miss and UGA and even Miss St are pushing hard...lots of pressure to stay in-state (MS). The 3rd standout that game was Fulton, CB. He's likely going LSU and Deion Sanders coached him that week and said the kid will be incredible

in army game it was Shea Patterson during the game...Ole Miss QB commit. Thought the TE Isasi was incredible too....likely staying on west coast to USC or UCLA but has been to Bama recently and we have a small shot at him. The standouts in practice were Patterson, Jacob Eason (UGA QB), Dexter Lawrence (Clemson DL), and Jack Jones who will also be USC or UCLA. Biggest surprise was the Hawaii RB that committed to Oregon...he was awesome to watch even if he didn't play vs good high school competition

Biggest disappointments were Hulk Jones (Bama DT) and Kareem Walker (Michigan RB). Jones came in at 375 lb and had some injuries that kept him from contact and looked incredibly slow at his new weight (played normally 330-335) and Walker was just awful. Walker was said to be avoiding contact at every opportunity and slowest RB on the field. Today Rivals put out their final 250 for the year and Jones has dropped completely out while Walker dropped 141 spots.

Michigan will end up in the top 5 as they probably still get another 6-8 kids before signing day and have probably a 75% chance of landing the #1 player overall. David Long (#64 to #101 overall depending on what site you look at) likely commits to Michigan on thursday as well.

Michigan needs to give Jimmy some more T&E money.

The poor guy is having to spend the night with recruits.

I think he just likes to find ways to piss the SEC off. Last year it was camps, now he is having sleep overs, for spring practice he wants to spend part of it practicing in Florida at IMG academy. If that comes to pass the SEC is going to go ape shit.

That img academy is incredible. It's almost unfair. I have a good friend who went there for baseball and he said their facilities and amenities are unparalleled. Now it appears the football program is about to be second to none and they've got some outstanding coaches. Coaches from every program I. The country should be visiting that place regularly in all honesty.

Oh tons of power 5 conference recruits come from that school including a few 2017 kids that michigan itself is targeting, which is why if it happens the SEC is going to be pissed

i was going to mention DT rashad gary from new jersey... i saw it suggested he is the most heralded HS recruit in X years, but i think there are tons of different ways you could define it (clowney comes to mind as being very unique, fournette maybe too... drawing blanks on QB's which would be the obvious position).

anyhow, apparently this gary kid is incredible... i had heard that michigan had him locked up with ole miss the other possibility... but now i see talk of USC and schiano (former rutgers coach) is pushing hard for ohio state....

sounds like ultimately it will be michigan for him though.

anyone hearing talk of kongbo, the #1 JC recruit? african kid from canada. hadn't played that much football. went to wyoming cowboys, after one year to arizona JC. now looking at best programs......... large DE and apparently was 2nd or 3rd in the state 100 metres (canadian equivalent of state and it's pretty large)

isn't this super-standard in basketball?..... how does the team do in competition?

also for rolltide, is that the delasalle tight end you mentioned? i think so. hadn't looked up his schools but you mentioned USC/UCLA.....

i see a LB (5 star?) from torrance, ca just decommitted from USC.. .UCLA??? .... has hispanic name but looks somewhat black in his photo. probably mixed.

yeah that's him, Devin Asiasi ... he looked like a solid USC guy but then Tuiasosopo left for UCLA so it's probably UCLA, Michigan, Alabama, Washington in that order. UCLA very good shot at closing him, Tagaloa, and Juarez ... more for Kiffin to play with when he becomes HC in 2017 after Mora returns to NFL ;)

The Kongbo kid decommitted from Tennessee....and just visited Bama. My money is on Alabama.

I'm curious to see what happens w/ Harbaugh and the traveling spring practices. Can you imagine that? They'd truck 90+ kids (walk-ons included) down to Florida for a week to hold 4 or 5 spring practices? The cost of that alone would be $250K or more. I imagine the NCAA would step in on that.
